Sequencing Comparison Between Two Flagships From Roland and AKAI.
Akai Professional has combined its legendary MPC platform with a keyboard workstation for the first time! The new MPC Key 61 is one of the most feature-packed standalone production tools ever produced. Akai's MPC changed music forever in the late '80s once pop and hip-hop luminaries got their hands on it, and this MPC Key 61 features refined versions of MPC tools with additional pressure-sensitive velocity pads, pad memory, 63 function buttons, and much more. Use the MPC Key 61 as a standalone workstation; a controller/input for DAWs, MIDI devices, or hardware synths; as a sampler; and almost anything else. The onboard LED display features a spacious 8.5-inch x 5.5-inch touchscreen, and the MPC’s 16GB flash storage comes loaded with 10GB of preinstalled content ready for use right out of the box. Plus, it’s easy to expand the MPC’s storage thanks to a built-in drive bay for solid-state or hard disk drives, a feature that Sweetwater MPC enthusiasts are excited to embrace. Legions of devotees are lining up to snag this piece of MPC innovation
Since 2001, Roland's FANTOM workstations have been on the cutting edge of keyboard technology. the FANTOM-8, a new breed of keyboard workstation that will supercharge your music production and live performances. Equipped with inspiring production tools and deep computer integration, FANTOM-8 is your creative hub, designed to provide an intuitive, streamlined, and unconstrained music creation process. Its advanced, expandable 16-part multitimbral sound engine delivers Roland's premium acoustic and electronic sounds, along with the control to combine, morph, and sculpt them any way you want. The FANTOM's purposeful design is built into a roadworthy metal chassis with high-grade components and Roland's acclaimed 88-note, aftertouch-sensitive, PHA-50 progressive hammer-action keybed with escapement.

The best review of the Roland Fantom I've seen so far. Interesting that other reviews say that the Fantom does too little too late and for the MPC Keys are amazing for the same reasons. Funny because it seems that MPC only has a serious edge on sampling.

(1) Which one has great mixing and mastering effects to produce a professional sounding song without using a computer? (2) Can you expand the inputs of the fantom by attaching a class compliment audio interface or digital mixer and route the additional inputs from the external device into separate audio tracks on the fantom as it can be done on the MPC?

Fantom has great IFX and tons of other editing effects on its sequencer. You can expand Fantom inputs. However, it has more than enough connections in the back.

Between the MPC and Roland which makes recording (including vocals) easiest? (Simple, quick, and easy.) I get confused by too much computer nonsense.

Apples and oranges, but nice to compare so people don't cross-shop them. For me, the choice isn't a MPC Key 61 or Montage/Fantom/Nautilus but MPC key 61 and Montage, Fantom, or Nautilus. The Key 61 isn't for gigging or other tasks that require immediacy. I choose MPC Key 61 + Roland Integra 7 to save room in my keyboard racks. I compose and still like working in the hardware space. You can you use keygroups or even resample the plugins to get past the limit. Or you can auto sample keygroups into the MPC Key 61. The Integra 7 often gets sampled into keygroups.
