This was a very helpful review, especially 1) your assessment of the keyboard including how the weighted action benefits the performance which in turn affects the recording and 2) pointing out the value of having sounds and speakers as opposed to just a midi controller. 3) the value of 88 keys with synth and VST packages 4) taking the time to demo the dynamics of the sounds. 5) I actually really like the sounds - even the scat sound which obviously is out of place but totally promotes creativity in everyone who reviews it. Also, you have a beautiful music room, free from clutter and enhanced with plants!

This was an absolute awesome presentation and a great view. I originally was searching for an opinion on the in built speakers, and they weren’t mentioned much here, but I learned so much more I really needed to hear aswell. Great conveyance of general feeling. I want my fp-10 to stand there for the kids to play on, either with headphones or (occasinally 😅) with speakers, and myself to be able to hook up the ipad with all my apps and compose and produce with a piano feel 88 keys midi controller. I am very happy how this presentation covered close to all the areas I am interested in, including the very small footprint against the wal, albeit maybe too slopy, but still. Thank you very much for this (old) video!

Hey, I'm new to home audio production and have a few basic questions. I'm assuming that you connect the FP-10 to your computer directly via USB MIDI since it doesn't have a dedicated MIDI port. If so, can the DAW still receive MIDI data from the keyboard if I already have an audio interface connected and the I/O settings in the DAW is set to that interface? I'm confused but couldn't try anything yet, any help would be much appreciated.

A good piano! Sound and keyboard are all I need! I did not regret that I bought it! :D I am self-taught and have been playing the Roland FP-10 for almost 2 years. The keyboard is strong and quiet, but over time, the grease under the keyboard is exhausted and clicks appear not when pressed, but from the backlash of the keys. I disassemble and lubricate the keyboard every 3 months in order to eliminate clicks (this probably applies to all digital pianos). If you compare it with competitors of a certain price category, this is the best piano)

The FP-10 is the best Digital Piano/MIDI controller in the price range. As stated in this video, its also very compact. It has the same keybed as every Roland weighted keyboard except the very top of the line model.

I’ve always been a Yamaha preferred guy . But after playing this Roland it captivated me right away for a digital piano at it’s price ..... The piano sound is really impressive . And the action and feel really interests me for my straight up piano playing. Besides the action , it’s triple sensor aspect is suppose to have good response in repeating a note fast with just one finger .... etc ... The feel & response is pretty good for such n inexpensive 88 keys MIDI keyboard

Simplicity is definitely what is missing in current releases of digital pianos. I had FP90X and P-515 (both used mostly as MIDI controllers) and I did not use more than 5% of their features. I dream of a light action (PHA-4 is relatively heavy), portable digital piano with up to 5 tones, no songs, accompaniment beats etc. Michael Ps. I very much enjoyed your review! As for the lack of mod wheel, consider using the XY pad on a Korg NanoPad 2. Only problem is finding a place to put it. You can turn it around as you need it and then just flip the axis in the DAW. Easiest way would probably be to lift the FP-10 slightly off the surface with some feet. Put the NanoPad underneath with some double sided tape so it doesn't slide around and you're good to go

Stumbled upon this video yesterday, first of all - well done! Everthing one needs to know about this e-piano is mentioned. 👍 I got one a couple years ago, right before covid. After messing around with it for a year I lost interest, maybe the original sounds played a role... but honestly, I could have been practicing much more, if I really wanted it. Next I went with blues harmonica, for half a year, practicing daily. Then got started on E-Bass, which has me totally hooked. From that moment forward, now 1.5 years later, the fp-10 has been sitting in my basement. A friend borrowed it for a couple weeks once, saying since it doesn't have any midi function other than bluetooth and since headphone-out isn't Line-out, he couldn't connect it to his other gear, therefore completly useless to him. And so it went back to the basement, with the idea of maybe selling it, when my bass skills justify the purchase of a premium instrument... Till today, you mentioned the use of an adaptor in your video - that got me thinking, maybe an aux-cable for the headphone output, with a 1/4" adaptor at the other end would work with my effect pedals. Into the compressor, followed by reverb and a class-d bass-amp with cab at the end - silence... then I put a Boss GT1-B(multi-effect) in front, fp-10 into 'Input' and from the 'L(Mono)-Output' onto my pedals, into the amp, works great! With chorus, modulated delay and reverb, maybe some fuzz in front, lots of possibilities that I didn't know of. Any preset with a bit of reverb is already great. And my friend, who was convinced that it's all useless, will also benefit from this chunky peace of gear. All thanks to a small adaptor, for 2 bucks 😁..And some stuff that I already had.. And thanks to you, I now know that it works as a midi controler too, once I get into recording my bass, that will definitly be useful. Sorry for the rant 😅

Thank you for the detailed and comprehensive review of the Roland Fp10. It is also on my top list for its minimalistic slim design and functions and the appraised piano feel of the keyboard. My other contender is Fp30x. I am new to this and I have a question - could the 96 polyphony be a limitation if this keyboard is used as a midi controller, compared to 256 on the Fp30x? I am still trying to decide whether I will be missing something if I go with the Fp10, which I prefer in terms of compactness of the body. Thank you very much!

21:04 I think a version without speakers and sounds may well cost more, due to lower sales volume. The FP-10 seems to be very competitively priced compared to many midi controllers, most of which have inferior keys.

I just ordered this unit and am so excited to give it a try. Been using non hammer action pianos for too long. Love your piano room too. I'm a pianist and have been having that real key feeling. I like the midi/usb feature of this piano.

Very very underrated channel

got it for almost a year now. perfect choice for beginners. even better to use it as MIDI on your PC with a DAW and Piano Plugins with a stereo amplifier and some decent monitors.

Even though I tend to prefer Yamaha sounds but the piano sounds on this Roland model is pretty great .

The foot pedal is the Roland DP-10. Works great and if you get a Roland FP it’s a must. Got mine for $40 and totally worth it.

You earned my like and sub, friend! I ordered the FP-30 on impulse because the stock was low, but the reviews were great! Afterwards, I saw a video on how bad the sounds in it were, and it really got me down. After seeing this, my excitement is re-vitalized. I have a nice PC, so I should be able to use plugins to achieve any sound I want! I have some very nice headphones to use in the meantime, while I save for a decent set of studio monitors. I am just learning to play, but I have been a musician all of my life, and will likely be picky about the sound quality! Once again, thanks for this awesome and informative video!

I think that the main difference of your DAW piano sound is that it was recorded with close microphone positions (close to strings), compared to the onboard piano sounds, which use player's/audience's microphone positions. I suppose that is the reason why it sounds more detailed and more round and intimate..

I've had my FP10 for a week now and it's changed my life. I am a complete beginner but what I can tell anyone thinking about this model is that I also have a real acoustic piano in my house and the FP10 is incredibly close to the feel of it. It's uncanny actually. By the way if you use a set of decent headphones, the sound is just amazing. The subtle stereo that emulates the direction of the key presses literally makes you forget you're wearing them. One strike against it is the Piano Partner App, however. Roland seem unable to fix it's many problems, not least of which is the inability to connect it to the majority android devices. It seems the bluetooth is somehow incompatible. If you have an android tablet or phone, then you will be lucky to get Piano Partner 2 working with this or any of the FP range. But the quality of the actual piano is so good that I soon got over this disappointment.

Hi! Great video. I am just curious about using the mod wheel from the other keyboard. How did you connect that? Does it just work out of the box or you needed some special configuration to tell your DAW that the one keyboard had to modulate the notes coming from the other keyboard? I thought you could only select one keyboard at a time.

I decided on the FP30 for the additional sounds and features, including bluetooth connection to the piano partner 2, app. This allows a better visual representation of the functions.

I own a Korg Kronos X piano which I also use with Logic pro X but I am recommanding a friend of mine to buy this Roland FP-10 as she is starting piano and for the qualities of this digital piano you mentioned in your review. One question as I read on forums that some owners of the FP-10 faced clicking keys noise issues on some of the keys. Did you notice that too after several months using and playing on it? Thank you.
