Very nice set of sounds that you have made here and importantly and often forgotten even by the manufacturers, they seem to be all musically usable. Well done. Cheers!
It looks so much better with the new overlay. More expensive even but let's not give Roland any ideas or they'll jack the price up! For a minute I thought you were going to break into Lay All Your Love On Me by Abba at 1:56
power of jd xa is reality now ^^ i have one to join my moxf6 and he's marvelous hybrid keyboard ^^ his secret its the filter analog with digital part !! the sounds are incredible !!
Nice sounds.. I like your choir in particular! I see your JD-XA also sports the same front covers mine does.. makes it look like an awesome synth doesn't it?
You are thinking of the MINI version of this that ONLY has ONE analog oscillator: it's call the JD-Xi ... this is the JD-XA... it has 4 analog oscilators, and therefore costs more.
No. I was actually talking about the JD-XA. The list price WAS $2199,but when Roland brought out the System 8,they lowered the price of the JD-XA to $1799,a 400 dollar price. The JD-XI was always $499. That's why I bought one! Now the JD-XA is totally within anybody's budget!
Cool! And proper video! Might get them, having too much fun making my own at the moment :D What I would like is a decent piano instead of JD Piano (although with some layering it gets better). My first impressions are the JD-Xa is what JD-800 could have been if ppl hadn't insisted on just using the presets... plus analog that's better than Juno/Jupiter :)
Q: does anybody know if they fixed the problem with the filters where sending normal-level signal into the analog filter causes it to glitch as if you’re feeding noise into the filter cutoff?
They are from Roland, you have to go to your music store and they can order that overlay for you (for free). You can also send a mail to roland in the support section.
Hi, when you purchase the JDXA you have 64 preset stored, but you can download more sounds from axial or you can buy DKS sounds for JDXA (other 32 sounds) from here: www.dksynthlab.com/sound-store/
Actually it has 16 banks of 16 sounds on board plus a USB input so using a thumb drive you can have another 16 banks at your finger tips. In other words 512 patches. All those patches can be pre-programmed to include performances, arps etc.
This synth sounds like it's stuck in the late 80's early 90's. Which kinda proves to me my thoughts that Roland haven't moved on since the JD800 really...nothing new. Companies like Arturia and Korg Dave Smith waldorf ASM are leaving them for dead in both products and innovation.
Doesn't sound as bad as it sold. And nowhere near as bad as the absolute junk (to borrow your term, Tyler) that is the System 8. And doesn't even look that bad with the matte mod.
This is partly a ROM based synth with multiple sampled waveforms, if the sampled waveform is from a vintage synth, you can get it to sound vintage. And the fact that this synth is in the Jd series which started with the JD-800 that was again based on the D-50 and also sound quite similar to that synth, technically makes this a vintage sounding synth. Its only that some of its factory presets sounds modern to you, but hey this is a synthesizer and its also a very powerful one at that, it means that a moderately skilled synthesist can make this synth sound like he/she wants it to sound. The fact that you dont get this just show that you dont have a clue.
Are synths handcrafted instruments or are the assembly produced with humans involved for precision work? $2,499 seems really high if it isn't primarily handcrafted (built robotic for the most part). I have a Jupiter X. It cost 2500. I have a Stratocaster that also cost 2500. I know the production that went into making the strat so I feel the price is justified. On the synth, I wonder if I'm paying for it's R&D than for it's hardware. Not a complaint. All of my Roland products are worth it.
