Great overview thanks. I just got one and these 9 minutes have demystified it for me even though I read the manual!

Yep...hate the surface.....but i'm glad they cheaped out the cover and not the sounds...it sounds great...i have been using it alot and like it more and more... i also think they cheaped out on the display...that really bugs me, but it sounds great..very playable

You can get a nice matte textured surface from Synth Graphics' site that overlays the glossy interface. It is a bit pricey, but it is very well made.

I wrote to Roland. They sent me the overlays for free.

thanks for playing a lot of pads and and tones for us, a lot of other demonstrations play too much lead solos and fast lead guitar sounds which all went out of style by the end of the eighties when glam rock crashed lol

Hello, and He Roland JD-XA can play on His own without any gadgets, devices, additional analog synthesizers, he came to visit the speakers with him and that's it! can I do that ?

Roland lol, they really are still stuck in the early 90's aren't they. They haven't moved on from the JD800 lol. Shame really, companies like ASM, KORG, DAVE SMITH, ARTURIA, etc are leaving them far behind in both innovation and products. I understand Roland where bought out years ago....it shows.
@dvamateur
@dvamateur 2 года назад
Well, that makes other companies like Moog, Sequential, and even Korg stuck in the '70s and early '80s, since they still insist on reissuing old instruments. Roland has always been looking forward. That's their mission, to never look back, and always look into the future. The most innovative feature of the JD-XA is the SuperNATURAL sound engine. The analog part of the JD-XA is a severe step backward of course, which Roland rectified with the System-8, in where ACB circuit modeling technology made it possible to get rid of the analog oscillators. The latest technology from Roland is ABM, used in Jupiter-X/Xm, Fantom, AE-30, RD-88, AX-Edge and of course Xenology, which are all based on XEN-Core architecture, which in turn is based on both ABM and PCM. And what I love about Roland is that even though they offer the latest technology, they also provide options to have their old sounds in the gear. There's nothing worse than buying a new synthesizer and immediately missing your older synthesizer for the sounds it had. I think the best piece of gear from Roland is the Integra-7 module. It has the latest SuperNATURAL engine with various acoustic modeling techniques, as well as the availability of all the PCM based SRX boards, and the most advanced synthesizer Roland ever produced, the XV-5080.

@@dvamateur They just released the JD800 boutique along with a couple of other early 90s modules. And the older Jupiter range. Even their new MC series are sounds imported from the XP50. Hardly looking forward:).

hi, does it have an ambient switch for filtered drum and bass swing. also if its got a plug in section for lead vocal stops. i need that as my keyboard has an omega output that is flawed. every time i step to a new pointer gage it stopped socially and won't put on any 18 bit spectrums even if i bulk it. cheers

Have you tried miffing the oscillator output back through the sequential phase array (in sync, obviously) and rebalancing the cretin odour using the envelope key track generation smorgasbord? Give that a go and let us know how you get on. 👍

Finally I find a JD-XA demo worth watching. Considering that Roland is such a major player in the synth world they have some of the worse product support I've seen. Korg made thier own How-to vids. Yamaha makes them. And their manuals are decent enough but ROLAND? No way. And considering the fact that thier manuals are designed for nasa engineers, you'd think Roland would try to help us out! I love my JD!! I love it. But if you buy one get ready to learn it by experimentation! You won't get much help from Roland. Horrible. As for the front panel? Google JD-XA front panel overlay. There's hope on the horizon. I guess I should make my own How to vid and post it! Believe me if I do I will start the video by saying "since Roland only wants your money and obviously doesn't care to offer product support of any real measure I have decided to help as best I can!"Don't believe me? Try to find a way to contact them on thier website. You will find a place to click but it will direct you in circles.

i agree...can some one please comment on actually how to work the sequencer on this awescool synth....truly analogue and lovely as it is....the instructions leave out ALOT of information you actually do NEED regarding the sequencer...im still starting out...so thats what i noticed so far...anyways....very nice piece of equipment im glad i got one....just need to work some more stuff out...but great vid...thanks....thats helped me alot....please explain the sequencer actually properly...thanks

David Maximus hey i actually got it to record with 8 tracks or whatever ..i managed to get 8 melodied on top of each other...how?? i dunno i cant do it anymore... but when u select the parts YES u have to have the PROGRAM SELECT button OFF ...yes we have established that....but when u select the osc part button u HAVE to hold SHIFT and then all the part buttons flash but the one thats recording the track is flashing....ok this worked a treat...i have NO IDEA how to record the other second 8 tracks...but yeah...i used the SHIFT button and held the osc part button so the osc part button was flashing on the part that was recording...unfortunately ...this just totally stopped working....someone help...this is massive synth . but u want everything to work

I have discovered TWO things that may help...ok dave if your with me here....we could be the only ones left bothering to try to work this fking sequencer from h3ll...ok.... what i noticed in the USER manual...page 12 ...right down the bottom... LAST item in the little table thing they have with "WHEEL1" and "WHEEL2"... I have no idea how this setting affects the wheel.....but I WISH I had my JDXA here to test it...because mine is FAULTY for the SECOND TIME.....its in the SHOP...ok ...,so as i was saying.....the last item in the table on page 12 right down the bottom of the table... in the user manual...called "dest" and its explanation is this... "specifies whether the part to which the effect applies is determined by the PART Select setting or by the PART On setting"....btw that was the EXACT wording and lettering...ok...MAYBE that would make a difference....see if you can find this setting....the only other setting i noticed at this time... is that setting on the page 13 of the user manual...this time its the FIRST item in the table at the top of the page...in fact its the very next item...ANYWAYS... the second point im wanting to check out is this setting called "Local Switch" ... and its effect is written as " Enables/disables the connection between the controller section (keyboard, pitch bend/modulation lever, wheels, panel knobs, and buttons, pedals etc...) and the internal sound engine. Normally you should leave this "ON." Choose "OFF" setting if you want operations on the JDXA to control only an external sound module..." OK SO theres TWO theories....Im really hoping the first one works....I hope ONE of them works.. IM SICK of emailing ROland...and im asking them...???? IF THE PATCH already has 4 analogue oscillators active and 2 digital oscillators active...WELl how am i supposed to select a single track to record on??? PLEASE does anyone UNDERSTAND ME??? THe people at Roland in australia have told me that their job is very difficult... OK ...fair enough....but why not escalate the question to a higher ranked team member??? maybe make a call to the states??? WHY not??? i have no answers....myself im waiting for my JDXA to be repaired....so i cannot test my theory until i get my synth back...BUMMER....David Maximus... give me a message if you have tried out these settings i have managed to locate..... also in the parameter guide....there is some further explanations about the sequencer.....maybe check that out.....still theres no sign of the instruction to press the program button to put the JDXA into sequencer mode....thats just something someone has worked out...yes there are some smart people out here...theres people who can light a cigarette off a AA battery... maybe one of those people could take a look at the JDXA..... ok well thanks for reading....PLEASE ASSIST....thankyou.. care bEAr....

There is a great overlay available in several styles for whichever readability you prefer. It's matte and solves the fingerprints and scratching problem. Let's see if this link works. (I haven't bought one yet since I don't have the keyboard - yet.) : www.synthgraphics.com/Roland_JD-XA_panel.html

@777curiosity
@777curiosity 7 лет назад
its a bit plasticy which sux....but all the nobs and sliders are nice and solid seeming construction( ive only had mine a month)....but do all synths do that thing after about half an hour of tweaking knobs and sliders....they just kinda totally shut down and you have to switch over to a fresh patch??? ive noticed that the oscillators just kinda died out after a lot of mucking about on the settings and same with my monologue....but yeah.who knows this might be one of the last actual analogue real actual analogue synths with whats happening with the electonics industry....who knows if these will even exist in the next few years... can someone PLEAS E actually explain how to REALLY use the sequencer....it is NOT explained in the roland vid or any others i can find....
