Roland JD-Xi - How to use Vocoder and Auto Pitch 

Great tool with great sound. Built super cheap though. I have a 70 dollar midi keyboard that was built better than this thing. The sound definitely makes up for it. Just can't get too carried away when programming drums. My main goal with it is to create keygroups, drum packs, and samples for my MPC though so it serves it's purpose for me. This thing has phenomenal sound for the price. Just wish it was built a little better. Now I'm not sure if the JDXA is worth buying. If it's built anything like this I would say definitely not.

There is no audio recording on the Jdxi. Only midi data

No You cannot. It won't sample your voice for later playback. I know...sucks.

The Jdxi does not record audio This guy should have said it right at the beginning of his demo. It seems that everybody is mistaken

I also have this same issue. I read in the manual that you can't use analogue synth at the same time. Think you can only use one digital synth too. I made a pattern thinking I'd be able to simply switch to vocoder & get some effects on the go over it all, nothing. My leads & analogue all disappeared leaving me with just drums. HELP!?!

Yes. It does. Is not a fault. If you youse the vocoder the analog synth will not work. Roland should have improved that, and also have 4 more tracks instead of only 4. Totally 8

At the end of all the vocoder/auto pitch tones, you got the tone ‘Voice In’ which is your own voice. You can still add reverb etc.

@@josephchauvin1973 i think it works poorly as a mic only.. it sounds very ”muddy” but maybe you have any tips on how to fix it ?

@@Oliolivaoyou could try using a high pass filter to try and remove some of that mud, right?

This is a roland channel....unlikly they promote other brands.....

Vocoder On has to be Triggered by a MIDI NOTE Key On Event. I don't believe it will work otherwise.

Vocoder, by its very definition, needs a carrier sound to be modulated by your voice or whatever else comes through the mic, so no. Why would you want to? It wouldn't be a vocoder if you didn't hit a key.

Reso Factor it can work without hitting a key,the last three or four peesets work just by talking or singing on the mic,no need for hitting a key

Ignore them they're all wrong. Just hit the autonote button. The JD-XI does this for you automatically. Bunch of people with no idea what they're talking about trying to act smart....

A Roland vt3 efekt box can do that 😋

+pcuimac I think you need to let go of the FG - go get a kronos - I sold my G8 for the Kronos and haven't looked back. On a positive note the JD-XI is a ton of fun

I use a Fantom X7 and I'm looking forward to adding the JD-Xi into the mix. I doubt you'll be able to import samples into the JD-Xi with future software revisions. One if the first things I did when I saw that there were optional Roland Axial sound/loop "libraries" available was to see if they contained samples. From what I understand, the Roland Axial sound libraries/loops are just customized patches using the internal sounds (which seems to be confirmed by the very small file size of each collection). It still looks like an awesome synth for the price.

+burydudexxx I had a brand new Kronos 73 in 2011/12 and gave it back. The first one needed the keybed strips replaced, because of double triggering notes on some keys. After that it was still bad. I got a replacement, but the dynamic of the keybed was subpar and some keys were much to loud compared with the others. I now have a Physis Piano H1 and a Fantom G6 instead. The Kronos sounded great, but the RH3 is unreliable and the Oasys/Kronos OS is from 1993 and still has the same quirks and inconviniences as the triton/trinity.

+pcuimac the Kronos 2 has ironed out all the initial keyboard woes the first Kronos generation had - so for me the Kronos 2 is perfect - I still love Roland stuff as I also have the TR-8, TB-3 and the JD-XI - each to their own I suppose
