Chords is basically th same as What You Wont Do for Love by Bobby Caldwell which due to the songs versatility, being played / sampled in so many different styles, might be the best song ever written.

Simply amazing jazz lines! Actually, listening again, it reminds of the greats, like Jeff Lorber, yet you are throwing in so many cool jazz scales and patterns.

I grew up in the 50s and 60s and we used to watch Liberace on TV and think he was good. HA! This 18 year old plays 500 concentric circles around the old "good" artists and he has the technology to assist in the creation. Yohan obviously is an electronics geek and knows how to use the Roland to its full potential. He is amazingly inventive and makes it all look so easy. He can only get better and we will be here to enjoy his wonderful jazzy music. Thank you, RU-vid for making it easy for these young artists to get the exposure they deserve and have earned.

Nah, more Shakatak/Lorber, this guy is better at piano than Haywyre. Haywyre is more modern.
@Sniffyy

@@maccagrabme why does being modern mean hawyre is worse. Hawyre just has a different style
@maccagrabme
@maccagrabme 5 лет назад
@@Sniffyy I didn't say modern is worse I said he is more modern than Shakatak and Jeff Lorber. I actually think Haywyre is a great keyboardist better than I initially thought after listening to some of his other stuff, I like Blind Faith the best and thats one without the modern touches. The two best technically gifted young jazz artists I've heard are Jacob Collier and Domi.I'm not a big fan of Jacob's vocal style though but its amazing what he does.

I think the playing and thinking is great but the solo synth sound is annoyingly dull and cheezy. I mean, if you go into synthsizers you gotta go all in... explore the soundscape... don't just chose a patch you could find in a toy synth, hm? The sound matters always, but having the expanse of sounds available actually puts extra onus on coming up with an original texture

Yohan the beginning part when you started playing and recording on the JD-XI 0:37 - 0:47 I started tear up, how beautiful it sounds, I haven't been able to practice piano on my Juno DS-88 in ages, and it is a pity that it is laying in the dust, Today I felt a huge rush of motivation, I never felt before for producing music, I played on my friends Fantom 8 last night, and the way he was shocked and that he told me to not stop learning piano and continue the journey. I started ditching most of my other hobbies, that will prevent me of time and for reaching my dream of being able to Improvise like you. I need to put a high priority on music because 23 is not a young age anymore to begin. Today I picked up a MPC Live 2 and will also pick a smaller midi controller with after touch like the Arturia Keystep 37, or go also for the JD-XI, that synth sounds truly orgasmic and beautiful when it is played by a master player like yourself, that was blessed to practice since a young age. I hope I have enough time left, for with hard work and dedication to also one day get near your level. Not many artists make me cry, but the emotion I got from that intro recording was in my eyes perfection. Keep going forever, inspiring the whole wide world, I remember watching your video when you played a Michael Jackson song at a very young age near flawlessly... Incredible

Dude you are ridiculously capable on the piano. It seemed at first you were strictly technical in your gift, but I got a few goosebumps here and there during this improv as you let the time ebb and flow to your whim...so you got the heart too. Try and let that shine through more and I'd be amazed if you don't blow the fuck up. Wow man this is amazing.

@csrmnz
@csrmnz 5 лет назад
everready59 when you improvise you play lines that are recycled in a sense, mixed and matched some times and verbatim at others, it always depends on the moment but a huge part of improvisation is basically mimicking what you’ve heard and taken in as part of you “vocabulary” so to speak, so he could very well have heard something similar before and all he did was recreate it in this setting. All artists are thieves to an extent lol... and about samples- as long as you make something unique out of them I don’t see anything terribly wrong w them, that’s just my two cents though. (Keep in mind that Yohan is a very experienced, talented, and dedicated musician- but I’m sure that even he would say that line in particular has gained influence from something he’s either heard or played before) Sorry for the long response , I don’t mean any disrespect I’m just giving my opinion 😁 take care

You're phenomenal. Jammed with you, but your piano chops (when you went on the piano) are better than mine, I still play too much in the style of old bebop, but I have never got around playing soul as you've obviously have. Also I never plann in my life as it honestly disorientates me while improvising. I'm interested in recording myself, but would prefer a good mic and camera, and I don't mind it costing over $2k, but what would recommend?
