I'm very impressed by these presets. I can't say how authentic the actual synth is, without effects, but I know what I like. Great demo of the presets. Well done 👏 ✔️
@@HH-Thorsten Not sure I understand your question. I'm aware these presets have effects on them, by the bottom right hand corner, but I was just stating the original Jupiter 4 didn't have effects and I don't have one to compare the vst to. Hope that explains why I said that. I didn't mean anything by it... I love these presets. Very nice. 😉
I can hear quite a bit of 1980’s Gary Numan in some these patches…and one of them sounds very close indeed to the Human League’s version of Get Carter. Great sound design-the third plug out slot on my System 8 finally has a worthy resident!
I wondered if people would recognize the Get Carter sound influence on that one patch. They actually used a Casio VL-Tone for that. And definitely Gary Numan has been a big influence. Glad you like the patches. I think this plugout will occupy a spot in the System 8 for a while.
Crossing my fingers and hoping for a JP-04 Boutique later this year! The 4-voice limitation wouldn't be a deal breaker consider that was the polyphony of the original Jupiter 4.
@@ironinquisitor3656 exactly, how could it ever be exactly the same as the thousands of different sounding JP4s. But like with the others they have put it in the hands of players once more 👏
@@MrFunktone With the tuning drift and age each one has it's own character. The Cloud plug in is basically what one fresh out of the factory would have sounded like when first turned on. I hope that we get a Boutique version of this later this year.
Great sound design, excellent playing. The Plugin sounds really good, especially with the built in effects. Roland should introduce a new system 8 with a keyboard and a touch screen.
I just came from musictrackjp's new Korg Collection 700 video. This Roland sounds much more hifi and clear. Not as vintage sounding as the Korg software, but also not as contricted. Maybe there is a more severe anti-aliasing filter in the Korg code? Maybe it's because of differences in the original synths... but I doubt the Jupiter sounded quite this clean modern hifi (I like this too, though), and I doubt the Minikorg sounded quite as not-clear as in the other demo. I don't know the proper words for this. The mid-forward Korg would be better for leadsynth, and the Roland for everything else. I really like what Roland's done with the stereo field here. Nice depth to the sounds. Their ACB stuff really does sound good, and the J4 was what was missing. I wish the System 8 had a better aftertouch keyboard. It would make a great bridge between hardware and software... but a system 1 module and a better keyboard would be best for that.
13:20 for the next 3 minutes after that, shows some really cool patching and how capable the software is... with a classic dance interlude, and even though the chorus clips, it sounds great. The 16:55 minimoog impression doesn't quite cut it, despite the good playing and valiant effort patching. It sounds better when you take it away from Moogish territory there.
It took me way too long to understand the visuals in this video. I thought maybe you had placed a touchscreen at the top of your keybed to be able to control the sliders etc. that would be pretty neat.
If you have the System 8, you just control it like any other hardware synth. I just put the overlay of the software so people could see what the software version looks like.
There's way too much FX on most of the presets, making it difficult to hear what the synth actually sounds like. We all know that everything sounds better with FX.
All the FX here are part of the synth so you are hearing exactly what the synth sounds like. In some patches, the FX are definitely part of the patch design. In others they are more low key.
I agree. Too many FX for a proper comparison but it still sounds good but I guess that’s not the point of the demo. Sounds good but I’m not a plug in guy.
@@sonicstate I know, but when the presets of a synth are so drenched in FX, I get suspicious that it's to hide the fact that the synth doesn't sound very good without all the FX.
I agree with Kris but this isn't a review. Obviously you'd better turn off the effects if you want to compare it to the OG. Maybe that's not what this video is for.
I had a System 8 and have to say I must me missing something. I had a real Juno 60, JX3P, and SH101 at the same time as the System 8 and I used to have a Jupiter 4 and I just find this Roland software to sound completely flat and sterile. I guess if you always drown your synths in Reverb than you probably can't tell but all the oomph of the originals is gone. Roland is obsessed with pushing software but it really is lame. I've completely given up on this company ever releasing another product worth buying. It's just one empty plastic box with a classic name and paintjob after another. Not to mention the actual System 8 sound engine was a bit more interesting but with some big failures. One LFO on a modern digital synth? How lame is that?
i used to have a Jupiter 8 and 6 in the late 90's (it was cheaper than a Juno60's price today!) and i thought exactly as you but about the Sh101 (i also had the 101) the Juno60 and Jx3p the worst of all.... so stable and really sterile compared to a synth with real VCO, those synths where so dry and sterile i thought in those days... (now i think the Jx3p is killer and the juno60 so beautifull..but i still turn my nose at plugins LOL ) but on this plugin i must say there is improvments....(and in general there is a lot of progress at least todays plugins are musical and can be enjoyed and inspiring
@@jansonrawlings8169 What didn't? All the synths I've owned has been documented plenty in photos, videos, and/or recordings. But the update is I actually just bought the System 8 again. Ha. Constantly buying, selling, rebuying. I still think it sounds sterile AF but it is what it is. Their vintage gear is the most overpriced gear on the market.
@@VincentPresley I’m just trolling. I’m sure it’s true. I do the same thing with buying and selling. Somebody stop us! I agree, way overpriced. I was fortunate to get the system 8 when it was like 700 bucks on craigslist. I don’t think I would have paid much more for it. You still feel it’s sterile sounding or have you sort of come around on that?
