Jupiter-4 vs Jupiter-8 on the Roland System-8: Patch Match From Scatch & Sound Comparison

And we're back!! Sorry about the wait my friends--- Summer came out in full force and I promptly forgot about all you and my responsibilities as a Synth-Lord, but wait no longer-- the comparison you have been waiting for is here!
It's time to compare the brand new Jupiter-4 plugout synth engine for System-8 (and available on Roland Cloud) to the tried-and-true Jupiter-8 plugout that came stock originally with the S8 way back in 2016.
For the purposes of this comparison I have set the System-8 up in 'performance' mode so that I can switch easily back and forth between a patch on the JP8 and the JP4 sides respectively, but what this also allows me to do is send all of the control change data to and from each synth engine so that we will end up with identical patches as far as control values go. This way we can be sure we are comparing the two synths in exactly the same state (at least to start before we diverge on features available).
Its super scientific with some very unexpected results. MIDI is very cool!
So which do you prefer? The new Jupiter-4 plugout or the classic Jupiter-8?

give me a quick reminder what comparison you need---- prologue with system-8 or prologue with jupiter-x?

@@MRTUNA Ah, less so a certain comparison and more so just your thoughts on it after having had it for a few years. You have quite a few great synths and make quite a bit of music, yet despite it not being the most universally lauded or popular synth, the Prologue always seems to find its way into your jams.

System 8 is 100% worth it. Unless you have hundreds of thousands to pay for vintage synths. Then again I'm a VA junkie

I do miss my System 8. It got traded for the Virus TI2

@@MRTUNA The Jupiter X is only good if you want 40 years of Roland sounds. To make his sounds you need the System-8.

I’m wondering if you were to only dedicate one plug-out slot on the S8 for a Jupiter engine and you had to choose between the Jupiter 4 and the 8, which one would you pick? If you were to go for the J4 would the System-8’s own engine cover most of the J8’s ground since it has the J8 filter?

I tried It too but only on RCM. Same conclusion: Jupiter 4 is wilder, it's different sound, different age, it's like 70: Jupiter 4, 80: Jupiter 8. Same with monophonic: Promars and SH2 for old 70 sound and SH101 for 80 sound.

Do you think we’ll ever get a Jupiter 6 either for a plug out and or a model expansion?

Maybe a boutique Jupiter 6.

Hey how come when you switch the upper and lower parts the plug out stayed in the same position number one which was the Jupiter eight? It looks like you compared Jupiter 8 to the Jupiter 8. You had the same fat split which is the Jupiter eight that split on both the upper and the lower. Which lets me think it’s the Jupiter 8 on both. I mean I have one it’s loads of fun.

I explain at the beginning of the video how the System-8 is setup to send and recieve midi on the same channel for both the Jupiter-4 and the Jupiter-8. I then created a performance patch that seperates the two on different layers. when this setup is applied it will affect both layers with midi control changes even if they arent both selected simulaneously. the screen does not change to reflect the differences on the synth but the sounds certainly do. You can start to clearly hear the differences by the 2:30 mark when i start to mess with the resonance a bit more.

How did you set this up? Just make a midi loop back and assign each plug out to a layer? I'd love to see a Juno shootout, just to see
