You are right, the chip is a TVF16, 16 bit digital filter

@@gwEmbassy The GUI alone is tempting me I must say...have you ever tried any A-series Yamaha samplers? Legendarily skippy and borderline unusable encoders but they sound fantastic and have some insane FX like midi controllable real time time-stretch and a clock synced sample startpoint randomizer, as well as a plethora of other DSP oddities...would love to see you take one on!!

Never tried the A3000 A4000 etc. I have a TX16W and an SU10 which I like. Maybe I should look into those!

That loop display is very useful. I knew I recognized it from 90s Mac software, probably Sound Designer II, but I was able to confirm that it was in the original version of Sound Designer for the Emulator II. So I think Roland may have taken a cue from Digidesign there. Obviously putting it in the sampler is a huge benefit though, crazy how advanced this is compared to its Akai contemporaries.

Yes, it’s very unique. Workflow could be a bit faster, but it’s a great unit.

I had an S770 and the RC100 years ago, just couldn't get into it..Used to Akai's and Kurzweils. I sold it to Front 242! lol Nice use of Schooly D break

It is a difficult machine to get into. Powerful and sounds great, but I’m not sure it’s for me either!

@@gwEmbassy I really wanted to use it. Love the idea of having the screen attached, but I was using stuff like Bias Peak at the time and the Roland OS felt very clunky. Loved the video though :)

There is someone selling PS/2 to MSX mouse converters on eBay for £20, says it works on the S-330 too

Nice video! I'm thinking about getting an s330 and getting a detailed look at the gui is really helpful. Nice track and love the sound of the LXP1, so much bang for the buck!

Hi Fagleboo, the S-330 sounds really good and is rather unique in many ways I think. The GUI is slower than one might think, but it’s still amazing to have graphical editing on a unit of this age.

Thank you for this video. Tons of great info in here. I have a huge favor to ask. Would you mind demonstrating how to chop a drum loop into 4 equal parts and mapping each section to a keyboard key? I’ve been digging into my s330 for a couple days and am struggling to get this right. Either way, thanks a ton!

Can anyone answer a question about sample time? Mine came with OS disks for version 1.00. It gives me a sample limit of .04 seconds at 30hz and .08 seconds at 15hz (per sample). Was that extended with updated OSs? Because I see here in the video you were able to use whatever amount the Bank had remaining.

I can use the full length of the bank, but these are the minimum sample sizes.

Hey gwEm, I've been getting into 12-bit samplers as of late and I'm torn between buying an S330 or a TX16W. I would really like that aliased sound, so between the two, which one can produce more aliasing? Or do you know of a better rackmount alternative with that I could scoop up around the same price?

The s330 is technically 16bit, best 16bit sampler that doesn’t sound 16bit is a cheetah sx16 which is screen and mouse operated also
