Multitrack works as a charm. Indeed I se it to even listen while playing thru Live to interface. This helps to avoid USB ground noise. It works w/o noise if you set it as an interface. Though if you combine SH4 and other interfaces if makes ground noise. So USB audio/midi is the best choice. Also this lets you to use only single USB wire for power and everything.
@@triften1 I eliminated it by returning to guitar center 😂 serious synth never have this issue. For cheap devices you can buy USB breaker, not sure how much $40. I thought only IK multimedia does that cost cutting. Was surprised Roland did. I had few other use flow reservations on synth, but switching interface in Live to record/play other synth was one of inspiration killer for me. I just bought another synth, which is much more simple WRT connectivity and use flow.
Thanks for this video! I have a question, it might be a newbie one… Once you’ve recorded or while you are recording if you add stock plugins to the tracks you won’t hear them right?? I’m listening from the headphone output of the SH-4d. Is there a way to set it up so you can also use plugins?? Also if you mute the tracks in the DAW you still listen to all the audios. I thought it would also work like an audio interface. Any thoughts??
@@adriaduch5094 USB IN/OUT Level settings only affect the USB audio level. The device continues to send its sound to the output in parallel with USB audio. In other Roland synthesizers, routing is configured without any problems, but not in this box.
Hi, please, did you try to sequence SH-4d from Live? I have problem with switching banks and patches from Ableton and don't know how to proper set this up...
I don't get it. In the video teaser pic, you accuse Roland for not providing separate audio tracks, and then go on to record the separate audio tracks, that the SH-4d indeed DOES provide. Are you trying to generate clicks?
It’s because I heard people complaining for the lack of separate audio tracks. The title reflects those complains and gives a solution even if you can bypass the problem but you still have to process sound in a daw. And many of those complains are about using the SH without computer, in a live situation.
@@malvinusmusic In your video it shows 48Khz with 256 sample buffer size.. be interesting to see if there are other sample rate options (click 'hardware setup' in Ableton audio settings panel might reveal some options).. but that rate/buffer size is pretty standard. Nice videos btw.. this device is on my wish list. (nothing in the user manual detailing these things either.)
Unfortunately, when using USB audio, I hear audio from both the DAW and the device itself. The sound is doubled. It is unclear how to leave only the sound that comes from USB (DAW). Without this setting, multitrack recording doesn't make much sense.
You are right, the behavior of the instrument is wrong. But multitrack recording still has a usefulness, in an upcoming video I will try to show it. Thank you for stopping by!
@@malvinusmusic I have found an acceptable solution! Press Shift + MFX and set Switch=ON and Level=0. Then: Menu->System Settings and set USB In to MFX=OFF. The signal will sound only from the DAW.
I wrote this in the Roland chanel about this tidy beast machine: "Four firmware petitions: 1- fix the midi over usb problem when you slave sh4D on Ableton Live and gets double tempo. 2- be able to capture external audio thru 'Mix In' instead internal mixing. 3- double the steps count per pattern from 64 to 128. 4- Increase pattern/patches memory. Make this machine flawless, please." 👌👌👌
I've been having trouble in FL Studio getting audio tracked in without using Edison. Whenever I record it straight into the playlist, it's chops off the first half bar. I try to cut the countdown off before recording, but it always automatically comes back on. But when I record tracks through Edison it works perfect timing. It's just tedious to drag and drop everything from edison into the playlist. Any feedback?
set the audio device to the sh-4d asio driver. then i go to tthe playlist editor and copy paste a blank bar til i have about 200 bars of blankness. set to song mode. go to the mixer panel. i set the drums as track 1 and then each synth track im using. right click on the record button and i uncheck everything but audio. after i record in what i want go to playlist editor and delete everything in the first tab. then switch to the audio playlist and i drag each track into it. then apply fx to each channel til you are happy. @@shapeshiftersmediagroup
Sorry, but what??? This would be gear to get the heck away from DAW IMHO! You picked maybe the wrong tool for the job! It's a $600 version of Elektron gear! USed, $500 or less. I think you get all you need for what it is. Get an MPC One. I have one, want to trade? OMG. I hate it!
Some people need more audio outputs even in a gig. For me it's not an issue, but somebody complains about the lack of more audio outs. Thanks for your comment!
How are you going to get away from the DAW if it doesn't have any built in methods for assignable outs? If you're performing now you're stuck to a laptop to split the audio. Real crappy. That's the opposite of getting away from the DAW. This device was "inches" from being "perfect".
