Demo of the original Roland SH-5 analog monophonic synthesizer.
I played the Roland SH-5 with reverb effects from a Lexicon MPX-500 and delay effects from a Roland DEP-5.
The Roland SH-5 is a monophonic analog synth obviously heavily inspired by the ARP Odyssey. You will find every ARP Odyssey feature plus more features. The sound however, is completely different. A quite flexible synth with typical seventies Roland-Sound!

*YES!* I was really pleased to see their System 500 with Malekko. Definitely saving up for one. But we need reissues of the old SH Gear! SH 5/7/101!!!

Excellent synth. The Behringer clone shouldn't be too far off. An original of this is way out of my price range.

Great tones. But you must realise that to enhance most synth sounds, including this one, you must run it through an echo, reverb device.

These are going for minimoog money (or more) these days, but are they really minimoog quality? It sounds great, but given the choice (and assuming you couldn’t just get both) which’d you chose? I bought a vintage mini recently and i LOVE it, it sounds fucking HUGE, but it’s the most expensive instrument I own. Does this really compare?

It does not compare. The Roland basic sound is more "Japanese", it has 12dB filters, it sounds like vintage Roland. Moog sounds different. The SH-5 is not for "bread and butter" sounds, it's a "special interest" synth for crazy sounds, sweeps, and effects. Of course also for bass, leads, but these are not the strengths of this instrument.

I'm personally sick of the minimoog sound. It's very basic. We've heard it. This thing is a true understated legend. It's also punk as fuck!
