Roland's design choices from this era are so amazing, love those sliders and knobs.

A great early Roland Specimen.... HOLD ONTO IT! Rolands of this vintage are only going to increase in value over time. Nice One!!

nice demo covers the synth well and shows how quickly the sounds can be changed when you know the synth like this musician well done. i miss my roland system 100 big time owned it from 78 till 2005. it had the same oscilators, filters, everlope generators and amps.

I had one of these in about 1987-88 but it had a problem with its keys re-triggering occasionally. I took it into ABC music in Oxford in hope of repair and the guys there really laughed at it as being the most uncool keyboard imaginable. Then the whole house/dance thing took off...

Woah! Bought an SH5 at 17 in 1977, and after seeing - this got it out of the garage. Still have the receipt! Still works perfectly. OMG. After 30yrs untouched. Wish I could regain the skills, purpose and the time to play it again.Thank you for the video.

When I was in high school (1980) I rented this synth for a week over Easter holidays. This and the Sh3a were popular alternatives to the Moog and Arp monos. Little did I know that the 5 would become one of the coolest vintage synths. The look and the sound quality are wonderful. The Roland oscillators and filter are so smooth.

Love these analogue sounds. Bitterly regret selling my 101.

In 1980-1981 when I was a kid my dad used to rent this for me when I was about 11-12 for $25. I remember the rental store that had it and they had the same beat up sh5 in 1990. They were willing to sell it for $150 and it needed minimal work. If I had only known how the damn price would be driven up to 3k+ I probably would've bought it along with the prophet goo (600) that w up for $175.

The SH-5 reminds me a little of my Waldorf Pulse (the original and not the Pulse 2). Both synths have a really raw, aggressive tone and can create crazy sound FX. The Pulse is probably harder and thinner sounding than the SH-5. But for less than $500, the Pulse is a great synth, especially considering its killer mod matrix, full controller implementation, velocity sensitivity, and patch storage. But still, the SH-5 is a well-deserved classic.

Thanks!! Nice job in running through a variety of functions and sounds. I have an SH101, Juno 60, and Juno 106. I was trying to watch the video to see what this could do that my SH 101 could or could not! Thanks again! Sounds great!!
