SPD:One: geni.us/5Wpt5f
Logjam Prolog: geni.us/QVqni
Musicians will use a stompbox as an alternate beat-keeper during solo or duo shows. Logjam Prolog is an analog way to have a stompbox. Roland SPD:One is a one-pad trigger that can also be used for stompbox use. Today, we compare the two and see how they can work for you.

Thanks for this telling review, which hits all the important points (and I say that as a Roland SPD user and as a user of many other stompboxes similar to the Logjam). The Logjam is new to me, and I like the way it offers 2 main sound variations with zero fuss, zero chance of knobs getting moved (thus changing volume, sensitivity, etc.) and not having to fret over which sound variation is on - all annoyance factors for me, and the reason I‘m shopping for a Roland alternative despite its huge array of great sounds. In your demo, however, I‘d say the Logjam provides a more robust, convincing bass thump for acoustic-type music than does the Roland, which may be more authentic in terms of „real“ drum sounds, but falls short on cutting through. I’m going to try the Logjam based on your demo, so thanks a lot for that! (Already tried the Horsekick and many others; might also try to Meinl, either digital or analog).

It' boils down to analog vs digital. Both work really well.

Cool original. Thanks for the review.😀👍 How would you compare the sound of the kick drum of the SPD One and the Logjam Prolog ?
@geekazine
@geekazine 4 года назад
I don't understand. I talked about that in the video.
@ericjohnkaiser
@ericjohnkaiser 4 года назад
@@geekazine Yes for sure.👍 Sorry if I'm not being clear...I'm talking specifically about the Kick drum sound: how do they compare ? (I understand the SPD One has a wider variety of sounds than the Logjam. I just would like to know if the kick drum sound of the SPD is good compared to a regular acoustic stomp like the Logjam). In your video it's a bit hard to hear the difference. Thanks for your help 🙏

Great review! The Log jam needs some eq, raise the bass to full to get a deeper bass drum sound

I have the log jam and EQ doesn't help much. you only have more bass but the sound is not so good imho

Anyone have experience of Logjam Prolog and Ortega Horsekick Pro? Deciding which to go with and can’t find any comparisons online. Cheers 👍

I've not tried an Ortega, but I've had my Prolog for years. Run it through something with a lot of low end and it sounds great.

Hi, The SPD looks Nice! Is it possible to connect it in line with guitar effectpedals? And get the sound out of the same amplifier? Grtz

There is no MIDI to it, so you would go TRS out to input.

I always run my drum machines, one to subwoofer for kick drum and the rest to a pa , it sounds like real drums. My question is, would the Roland sound like a kick drum through a sub ?
@alarrandal
@alarrandal 4 года назад
Well, it's always up to sub. Why not to mix them via console AUX channels?

I didn't think you were ever going to hit the lower portion of the Logjam while you were playing. You mostly used the upper part which is really not usable for a kick. Not a fair comparison.
@geekazine
@geekazine 3 года назад
The back part is meant for Backbeat. Yes, you can use it to get a different sound, and I thought I mentioned that, but but the SPD doesn't have a 2-zone area, so I didn't show that.

As you see from your demo, stomps constantly move with every hit. I'd be physically moving my stomp back after every song and in some cases, I've run out of leg because the thing has moved too far away from my foot. In this demo the Roland looks to be the worse offender. Non-slip feet don't work, maybe carrying a bit of carpet around or a stomp that is heavier like a butcher's block.
@geekazine
@geekazine 5 лет назад
There are things you can do to help from slipping away from you, but yes, I have to readjust.
@scottbecker3485

I have the Roland, and dislike it for this reason, among others. Yes, it slides away more than any other stomp box I‘ve used - and I‘ve used about 5 other ones (all either piezo-based or digital in a wood casing). I also dislike it because of the tiny „Sens“ knob on the side for adjusting sensitivity. The side knobs easily get moved, both during gigs if you come up against them, or for sure when packing up or setting up. So you have to carefully reset them every time...and hope they stay in place. Quite often a cable brushes up against the thing, causing the sensitivity to go up, and then you can be tapping your other foot on the floor or moving your chair, and the darn thing will trigger! Very nasty. Also dislike the same thing the reviewer mentioned about it not telling the user which of the two variations are „on“. If you get mixed up (which often happens live), then you have to actually hit the thing to hear which one is on...and the audience can hear it, too, unless you mute the channel first. Not nice. That said, the sounds are great and easy to adjust to taste. But the Logjam looks VERY tempting in terms of its robust, no-fuss sound. I‘m looking around for a Roland replacement to kill the complexity and not have to worry about knobs getting turned (including, I should add, the main volume knob, which - believe it or not - accidentally gets moved during gigs).

looks like the roland wants to move around.. get a 50 cents piezo and wire it up to a board.. bob's you're uncle.. but If I had money to waste I might consider the roland.. I'd use the bracket to keep it from moving around.. the logorhythm sounds better in this video

@@geekazine ha) put your old phone on the foot instead of the tambourine. or sell one of those boxes above you are promoting and buy 3 used iphones. 5s cost 60$ and works super dope. yes you can also use it instead of the looper or guitar effect pedal. There is no money in it for big mouth bloggers though, the app is free and ads free :) selling 300$ boxes is much more profitable model, but hey.. Let's go green, cut more trees and make some awesome music

I think an acoustic guitar or even a cigar box guitar would have been more appropriate for this demo..the electric guitar totally drowns out the product you are demonstrating .. but thanks for your time..
