The jubilee should be the Bruce Wayne. You guys make a good point on the first Batman as it’s the first gmt with the ceramic blue. But for me I love the new version with the updated movement on either band. Their is no right or wrong answer.
Hey Rigo, that is well said and I love the idea of the "Bruce Wayne"! The new version is something special and just updated but at the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference... thank you for stopping by!
Spanish Rob is completely wrong. The Batgirl was a derogatory nickname created by fringe members of the collector community. It was never accepted by the general public, only the internet trolls who are trying too hard to be trendy. It makes no sense when the name comes from the bezel and yet a bracelet change necessitates a name change but not on the Pepsi. Also, there is no such word as "comfortability"
Hey Abdoh, these discussions are all in good fun, but you are Correct! The "batgirl" nickname was not officially adopted by everyone just a certain niche of the watch community. You do bring up a wonderful point regarding the nickname coming from the bezel, yet the bracelet is the only visible and large change...and I had not thought of it like that before. Thanks again for coming by!
Great reply, and I’m in total agreement with you. It made no sense to me to change the name due to some change of bracelet. I still refer to it as the Batman.
Dude. Relax. It’s a nickname to differentiate between two models that appear identical to the untrained eye. It has nothing to do with internet trolls and there’s nothing derogatory about it. You just don’t like people referring to it as the softer (feminine) version of an otherwise very masculine design because you own the jubilee. The name stuck, whether we like it or not… Time to get over it.
@James Rocco Na bro you relax it’s a terrible nickname. Why should you be open to snide comments from possibly people who can’t afford a rolex. Feminising your wrist candy that you paid thousands for. Anyone that ever calls your watch the batgirl is trying to insult under the cuff.
The name Batgirl came out of anger with Rolex. It is meant to be derogatory and an insult. If you listen, you can hear a disdain in the voice of Batman owners when talking about the BLNR with the jubilee bracelet. Bruce Wayne is a better name. It is a pilot’s watch, not a diver. An airline pilot’s watch to boot. The GMT Master was born when air travel was done in a suit rather than a jogging suit.
Hey Jock! That is interesting, but I am 100% routing for the "Bruce Wayne" and I am noticing a huge increase in that nickname, we'll see if it gets fully adopted in the near future!
Jubilee on both BLNR and BLRO ! That bracelet suits the GMT Master II so much. Hence why two of the gents have them on! However, the oyster still looks class too.
Yes, I had the 126710BLRO with the “MK2” Bezel. I first thought I’d give it a try, but soon discovered that the colors tones of the bezel just didn’t do it for me. What bothered me the most is the way the colors looked in direct sunlight. It makes the bezel look like plastic.
Aussie! I personally connect with you on this... I see the Batman as more of an everyday time-piece whereas the Pepsi requires a certain occasion or outfit to really pull off. Always love seeing your opinion in the comments Aussie, till next time!
@@aussieexpat yes, anybody can wear anything, I get that and totally agree, but we are talking about differentiating the models. No one is saying the 36mm would be for a woman only and the 40mm would be for a man only. We CAN agree Batgirl is smaller than Batman right? Hence my suggestion.
@@jimlittle5769 Yeah but Bruce Wayne is in a tux, not a blue and black costume. If anything, a submariner no date is a Bruce Wayne or Explorer if it has to be SS Sports.
I agree with you Jim. I don’t know why Bruce Wayne didn’t catch as a nickname. I think Batgirl was originally intended as a derogatory nickname because the jubilee was more feminine looking. Batman and Bruce Wayne are the same person, so why not have a watch nicknamed for each persona.
I chose the bat girl. Reason being, it looks more classic. Timeless. I also have a sub mariner. It already has a rugged look because of the brushed oyster links. It just made more sense for me to go with a Jub.
There’s no such thing as a “Batgirl”. Changing the strap doesn’t change the watch. The nickname is based on the bezel not the strap. The Pepsi didn’t change names
I think all watches can be unisex. Jubilee or oyster bracelet? It is personal preference. I think some people are a bit hung up with labels - rather stereotypical. For my collection, I like varieties.
Original Oyster gives it a powerful presence and a simplicity that can't be beat. The Jubilee is a gorgeous bracelet. Perhaps a little busy for tool watches.
I own this piece on a jubilee . I wish I had the oyster bracelet . that said - I was very happy to have received the AD call last year. be safe ~ JDS/CT
Jonathan! Congrats on owning such an iconic piece, an overall beautiful choice... If you could, would you purchase the Oyster bracelet just to have the option?
@@joannjenny484 @ 4-5 months . * when I met the AD - I purchased a tudor pelagos , then that 4/5 months later he called for the batman .. good luck on your hunt. ~ JDS/CT
20:45 That "story" at the end, it's a mix of love between original bat on oyster with new pepsi on jubilee. Maybe, he's dream watch it's a new bat jubilee but he didn't realized yet. lol ...I think u should consider it. Great video guys!!!!
Loved the interesting points brought up! I also own the Batman on Jubilee (Love the Bruce Wayne name). Question-can we buy a replacement oyster bracelet for the jubilee from an AD? Has Rolex given a customization option for owners yet who prefer one look over the other?
I feel I’m love with Batman oyster years ago over time I’ve started to sway to the jubilee now I’m back with the oyster 🤷🏻♂️ can’t go wrong with either I suppose. If it was up to me Batman jubilee would be nicknamed the Bruce Wayne. In an ideal world you would buy the watch and the additional strap but I’ve heard if you buy different strap you have to trade in the one you already have I’m not sure how true that is.
Hey Dennis, I think I would enjoy the "Bruce Wayne" nickname as well and it seems like it is catching popularity. As for trading in your straps, Rolex does not make a strap for the Batman so it would most likely be an aftermarket purchase and in that case, you can keep your Oyster/Jubilee bracelet and have a beautiful strap!
Great video. Thanks for the interesting conversation. I was kind of expecting some discussion regarding how having the two bracelet options will affect secondary market prices - especially with the original Batman.
I prefer to call Jubilee Batman…to avoid the mental match of the jubilee bracelet with the woman’s watches. A perfect combination of daily watch with an elegant feel. Will be my next Rolex 🤤
Ridiculous inane discussion about names....if you put it on a mesh or a Croc strap (whatever you personally like) wtf are you going to call that? It's a blnr gmt2....end of. What you wear it on is completely personal and doesn't warrant any naming convention let alone a 40min discussion between 5 people. Only if its deliberately a female watch then perhaps.
Batgirl is a terrible nickname for a Batman with a jubilee. What’s the difference between Batman and Batgirl? Batgirl is a chick. When I first heard the nickname, I thought Batgirl was a ladies watch. Just silly. Let’s do better Rolex community. 😂😂😂
I own an original 2014 Batman so that's the one I would have all day. Let's not forget the Batman's other nickname at the time of its release the 'Bruiser'
Very late post but to put the nickname origins to rest. Archieluxury, Marc Goldberg, Bear Clooney, The Watch Wrangler hosted a live stream (which is still on RU-vid) the night Rolex website posted the new Blue Black GMT, after months of discontinuation rumors. During the live stream Marc Goldberg called it the Batgirl to differentiate the older Blue Black version. It was the first nickname that Marc called and the community commenting Super Chatting on that stream agreed to calling the Jubilee version “The Batgirl”. Eventually people and the hosts of that live stream pointed out that the Jubilee bracelet was more refined or feminine. The same thing happened when the Cermit or Starbucks debuted. Archieluxury channel live stream called it first.
Thanks for a very interesting discussion. I have the original 2013 Batman as well as a 2013 gold one (which I don’t think has a name). Love them both. The Batman is a great tool and everyday watch that looks smart but doesn’t shout out like the gold. The gold looks incredible in the flesh but as a daily wear not only marks up easier with desk rash (being softer) but is a lot heavier on the wrist. If you want a GMT with chapter ring markings for clearly reading the time elsewhere you should look at the Glycine Airman watches. There’s even one that has 4 time zones! But there’s a lot of numbers around the dial which might detract from the classic looks of the GMT. As for lume on the bezel since loads of brands now have this it cannot be difficult for Rolex to introduce this too.
Hey Kevin, I think we should name the 2013 gold one (116718?) it deserves a nickname... I will definitely take a look at the Glycine Airman watch, it sounds like a very functional watch and could be a great addition to someone's collection!
@@bobswatches there are several new Airman out I just discovered. Blue and green dials with PVD bronze style playing that look really cool on leather straps. Happy hunting! The prices look reasonable too. Around €750. As for the gold GMT, what about Superman after the gold background on the famous badge on his chest, trying to keep to the superheroes theme?
