Checking out my Rolex 114270 - 36mm Explorer from 2004. Also, a bonus quick look size comparison with my 38mm Hamilton Field Khaki Automatic. This is a great everyday Rolex.
My 114270 is the watch I would keep, if I would sell anything else...36 mm is perfect for an classic everyday watch, even thou some will disagree...36 mm oyster case on an old style oyster bracelet is as comfy as it gets.
Great video. Thank you for sharing your 114270 with us. The condition on that looks pristine, and from a style perspective, is just as relevant today as it was when it was made. Appreciated your story of another climber recognize it on a hike. I was able to get a 124270 from my AD and agree with you on the size. Lug to Lug it wears like a 38mm.
I have a 42mm seamaster, then I got a 36 mm explorer. It took me 1-2 days to adjust to the size. After spending some time now I think 36 mm size is like an ideal size for a comfortable wrist watch and my 42 seamaster kinda looks stupid to my eyes, unfortunatelly :( Wrist size 7inch.
Love the explorer, hopeful to have one some day. Had the explorer II and have since been lusting for a 36 explorer. Also cool to see next to the hami. The hami is such a good value, loved mine on various natos.
Finally, a comparison to the Field Khaki. I’ve been wearing one of these for a while and my DJ is long gone. So I wasn’t sure if I’d like the 26 explorer. Now I think it’s going to be perfect.
Really love the 114270. I have a 124270 and in every way it’s a superior watch but I do kind of wish the bracelet didn’t taper so aggressively. Have you compared the two in person?
Awesome watch. I have a 7.25” wrist and was worried it might be too small, but I might give it a shot and go with the 36mm. Simple and perfect dial on the explorer; a true classic.
