Today we are reviewing the first ever Rolex I bought, the 2000. Rolex Explorer 36, reference number 114270.
It was the first Rolex that I fell in love with because of its simplicity and at the time of purchase, almost no hype compared to more popular models.
Since Rolex released a new 36mm 124270 this one seems irrelevant at first glance, since the new one is objectively a better watch in every way, BUT, the proportions and shape of the case are slightly different, so this one still looks better, at least to me.
The only downside is the lack of lume on the 3,6,9 numerals, but other than that, it is better.
I even prefer the older bracelet as it hits the sweet spot between being comfortable and just sturdy enough.
The movement used, 3130, has been pefect. This is a 20 year old watch that has never been serviced and it is still within 2 seconds a day, which is incredibly impressive.
