I was honestly in the same situation as yourself. And I finally got it about 7 months back when the prices starts dropping on secondary market. No regrets whatsoever! Next is the 5 digit sub bluesy for me! 😊
My first Rolex (4th gen). Stupidly, I sold it about 4 yrs ago. A year later, LUCKILY, the person I sold it to let me buy it back for the price I originally paid for it. I'll never make that mistake again!
Same with me. Bought it new in 1991 from my first salaries, had it for 25 years and sold it as a full set for a ridiculous price. Bought a 1991 model last Saturday - the only watch I bought twice but for a reason.
Great video - the sizing of the old models are amazing. The 216570 / 226570 42mm are definitely on the larger side and only a few can wear it due to the size. I just about can. I have the 226570. I love the size which i think adds to the purpose of legibility , lume and more. I love the fit and feel of the 40mm watches, but this 42mm feels fine to me, because of the functionality and times your supposed to wear it. Outdoors, big jackets, gloves or short sleeves. You can see the Explorer II on your wrist 10/10
I've got the first gen 16570 polar with the tritium dial. Bought new in 1996 and just now is getting it's first service. It ran perfectly until the mainspring just wore out and snapped. It's being serviced now by the best independent rolex guy in my area. I would've sent it to Rolex if they gave me a guarantee that they would not replace my tritium dial. My indices are just now starting to cream up and replacing that with a service dial (whilst practical) tanks my resale value.
Great review!!!! The prices are coming down for the Polar dial. 3-4 years ago these were selling for $5k. When the hype was at its peak 2022 they were listed for over $10k. Now you are starting to see them as low as $7k - $8k. The black dial can be found for $6500 - $7500. Prices seem to continue to drop with most pre-owned Rolex.
Nice video. The 16570 was my first luxury watch. Bought it used at a local jeweler about 15 years ago (back when these things sat since no one wanted them).
I have the 3rd Gen Polar 16570 (with no drilled lugs) which i bought it at a good price in 2020. It's my first Rolex and will always be extra special 😊 This one is a keeper for life 👍
I think 5 digit steel models are really watches you need to wear for a while to really appreciate. My polar 16570 just grew on me. At first I didn’t think I liked the bracelet and put the watch on a leather strap. But I had a holiday to the beach and decided to switch back to the bracelet for it. Too lazy to swap it back and wore it for my next trip. Before I knew it, it became more or less the go to everyday watch. Liked it so much I picked up a 16610 2 years later. Hoping to add a 16750 coke at some point.
I am currently in the same situation! Absolutely love the 16570 but now I don't know whether I should wait for prices to keep coming down. I am hoping they start to get in the $7ish range which I think we are seeing now.
Wait a little if you can, I'm pretty sure they will go down a bit more!! I made a low ball offer to the seller and we met at the middle so I got a pretty good price
The only thing missing to make that the perfect 4 watch collection is a G shock square, but I'm sure you'll probably have one knocking around somewhere.
Haha of course I have a square, but my 4 watch collection IF I ever had to get down to 4, would be my Sub, Speedmaster, Reverso and G-Shock square. Hopefully that day never comes so I can enjoy all the ones I have 😁
I went with a 3rd variant also, which had all of the most important traits to me: drilled case, solid end links and super luminova. That suede strap is exquisite; what is it please?
I wanted it so bad that I offered $3000 over the asking, but then the AD called and in picked up the Starbucks and smooth mint Green Day just. Now I see the prices have dropped and will just wait until I feel like pulling the trigger
Very similar in size but very different in wear. This looks and feels much thinner on wrist compared to the CW. The bezel is wider but thinner on the Rolex, while on CW it is slightly narrower but thicker. I actually have a CW GMT review coming out in a week or so where you can see them side by side.
thank you for your review, especially when it comes to the size. I was torn between the 5 and 6 digit models. seeing it next to the sub cements that the 5 digit will wear too small for my 7.5" wrist
