I’m with you, I love my 116610LN and don’t see enough to justify buying the new one. Plus I was super happy to buy mine from my AD last year 2 weeks before it was discontinued!
Just bought one. The 114060.Love it. The maxi case is sooo comfortable compared to the 5 digit ones . Tried on the new one but found the dimensions better in the 114060 with a 7”5 inch wrist. Weird sizing on the newbie
@@InstrumentPlayer cool thanks. I need to find and AD with a waitlist cus the one near me doesn’t do that apparently. Will a first time buyer be able to get it in 1.5 years without buying other stuff from them?
Thanks for making this video, best comparison I've seen of the old and new subs. I have a 114060 and I had the chance to try a 124060 last weekend. I agree with almost everything you mentioned in your video. Overall, the changes are VERY subtle. I like the slimmer lugs but I'm not a fan of the wider bracelet and larger clasp on my 6.5" wrist. Also, shout out to DavidSW. I traded in a watch with them last month and it was a seamless process. I'd happily work with them again.
@@JustBlueFish Yup, sticking with the 114060 for now. I like the new one and I probably would have picked it up if I didn't already have a sub but there just wasn't enough there for me to "upgrade". The 114060 is almost 3 years old and it still keeps nearly perfect time (+2 secs over a two week period). For me, the only changes I care about are 70hr power reserve (which actually isn't that big of a deal because I usually rotate through my watches) and the slimmer lugs. But I REALLY didn't care for the larger bracelet and clasp of the 124060 ( have a flat 6.5" wrist), if felt more like a cuff than a bracelet. I know we're talking millimeters here but when you have a small wrist, they make a big difference. That's what ultimately made me stick with the 114060.
Ya now that you mention it, you are right. Can’t say I really noticed in person, but look back at the video I think that’s correct. Very subtle change.
I absolutely concur with your support of DavidSW. I bought my Grand Seiko from them and start to finish it was a great experience. Great vid even though Rolex isn't especially my cup of tea.
Excellent video Sir! I agree with just about everything you said in the video. I have a 2019 Bluesy which I bought brand new in August of 2019, and I will most likely trade it in at my AD for the new model. I love the white writing on the dial replacing the gold for a nicer contrast, I love the new proportions of the watch and the wider bracelet. While I really like my current watch, to me at least, Rolex fixed everything that was "wrong" with the old model. Thanks for the great video and keep up the good work!
The 70 hour power reserve is a significant plus. I alternate between an IWC Mark XX and this allows the Sub to sit without a winder for two plus full days.
The last generation is with the ceramic bezel started from and the maxi case. However, they have discontinued that so it is a rare commodity. I have the 116613LB which I love and also I have the new 126610LN which I also adore. They are both Keepers in its own rights. Who would agree???
I would strongly disagree that it is a rare commodity. There are millions in circulation. It's quite possibly the least rare luxury watch in history. Kind of the opposife of rare.
After spending endless hours on this and owning both the 40 and 41 together for 4 days… The 41 looks better on the table. The 40 looks better on the wrist.
Have both 116610ln and 126610ln. AT first could'nt dicide which on I like better. The more I look into it, I do prefer 41mm Submariner. The dail looks more legible and bigger. Nicer more elegant lugs. Does'nt look as blocky looking. I have an 8 inch wrist, Before I had to ware my 40mm sub loose on my wrist because bracelet was not wide enough, now it fills in perfectly.
Great video and comparison. Very good editing too . I prefer the no date ,but a stunning watch nonetheless. Fair play to you for responding to your viewers comments too .
I agree the 116610 is a great watch - But make no mistake, the change in proportions of the 126610 are improvements/corrections to the previous model. The changes are subtle but the transition from case to bracelet is noticeably better with the new sub, there is much more flow to the watch...Great review
Thanks for the comprehensive review. I prefer the no-date version and the 41/21 size doesn't work for me. Slightly off-topic, what watch were you wearing during the review?
@@JustBlueFish Thanks! I've had my 38mm HKF on a bracelet, but I've recently rediscovered how great it is on straps. Currently, I wear it on a Eulit perlon.
Great vid guy well done.... I'm saving for the new Explorer 36mm (will be my first Rolex),...I feel it'll be more versatile...but the sub is obviously great
Thanks buddy. I use a Canon EOS R and a 24-70mm L lens, and an 85mm macro lens for a few close up shots. But honestly the lighting is more important, and a bit of color correction and grading in premier while editing. For lights I use an Aputure 120D as a main light, and an Aputure Tri-8 for a second fill light.
I think the 116610LN looks bigger More proportioned the 126610LN is a swing and a miss, They went backwards on this watch. They made it look like the 1980's with a big bracelet. Sorry not impressed with the 41 still excited about my Rolex Submariner 116610LN. I also purchased mine from the, Authorized Rolex dealer. Thank you for the video Guy.
I own the 114060 and 124060 (finally after a 2 year waiting list), 114060/116610 wears a little more comfortable than the new one but I have 6.7' wrist so take that into consideration. On a side note, the great thing about the no date Sub is no one ever ask me about it, unlike owning date Submariner or GMT where I get a lot of comments about the watch. Just something to think about.
Great review guy .someone with substance on RU-vid. Some dealers are asking $20k aud down here for the newbie sub and $1 =77 cents you can understand my omega purchase. Your logo would make great t shirts
I’m getting close to the same situation. New one wears bigger. Bracelet too big. Wider dial. Combined with being thinner you feel like your wearing a pancake. Flat and wide.
Why crystal glass on 126610 pops out more out of the watch than on 116610, the difference between them is huge? On 116610 it is almost whole inside, while on 126610 it is a couple of mm out of the bazel
Assuming you like/want the new model I’d say this. Given current prices and availability, no I wouldn’t. If at some point the hype relaxes and availability becomes normalized, I would upgrade sure.
Depends on wrist size. On my 6.75 in wrist, the pre ceramic wears much better. I found the new 41 to be a bit too big. If you have a 7 in wrist or above, the 41 is the clear winner in my eyes.
I wish they would size down the whole thing, like pre ceramic proportions with a ceramic bezel. Or introduce a smaller line like Tudor. I love my maxi case sub, but in all honesty it looks very large on my and most people’s wrists and the whole big watch trend seems to easy off a bit in the last years, with a lot of sub 40mm divers showing up on the market.
Hope you can get your hands on the new explorer. The availability of this watch is such a turn off, I could go grey market but it just wouldn't sit right with me.
A very comprehensive 1st time review Guy, you can only make a 1st impression once. I pretty much agree with most of your observations and comparisons between this and the last model. I'm a symmetry nut so needless to say I'm not the biggest fan of the date and cyclops as to me it just keeps drawing my eye to the date when I look at the face. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike the date version I just prefer the one without. I was on the AD list for the 11 series but last September it was replaced by the new 41mm version, I then registered interest for the new one and ultimately got the call that a no date sub 124060 would be available if I was still interested. The outcome of that is obvious and to my mind money well spent. The bezel action is a significant step above any other diver watch I've owned, the finish is superb for the price as well. The biggest surprise was that this watch is so comfortable on the wrist and in my mind actually wears smaller than the dimensions suggest. Now, If I'd got the call earlier with the 11 series would I consider changing (I'll not call it an upgrade) to the newer version? Probably not, the extended power reserve is nice but not a deal breaker as my no date version does not need the date resetting if not worn for a few days, a quick wind and a twist of the crown and all is well. From a clasp perspective the glidelock is great but if I'm honest I prefer the push button extension on the Omega Seamaster more but that is really picking at nits. Thanks again Guy for a great review.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback Anthony I appreciate it. I tend to be a little obsessive about symmetry as well actually, but weirdly the date on the Sub doesn’t bother me. Dials with offset power reserve indicators and sub dials tend to bother me tho. 🤷🏻♂️
@@JustBlueFish I agree with you on offset sub dials as they just off balance the dial. I came close to a purchase of a Grand Seiko Snowflake with gold markers last Christmas but although I loved the step less seconds I had trouble looking past that power reserve indicator. I guess it's just as well as I recently got the call for my Oyster Perpetual 124300 silver dial for a lower cost. If I'd purchased the GS it would probably have very little wrist time now that I have the OP. The OP has perfect symmetry and the same 3230 movement as my sub. I guess I was very fortunate on this occasion.
Awesome, I’d take the OP over a Snowflake as well, not that the Snowflake is bad I do like it. But design wise, the power reserve isn’t the best look and the OP is a simple but great design.
Thanks for your review. Size wise, I could just about pull off old ceramic Submariner (as have small wrist). I guess that means I should be also be fine with the new model too if it doesn’t wear bigger in the wrist?
I think the previous model looks better with the wider lugs, and would guess it fits better on the wrist as there's a more blockier flatter fit. What thickness is your new 41mm??
Just sold my 114060, and waiting on the 124060 from the AD. I think Rolex basically fixed everything that was wrong with the submariner. By the way, I would stay away from Davidsw if you’re trying to sell a watch. They offered me WAY less money than other dealers for my watch. They don’t want to pay fair prices, but their prices for their watches are insane. Definitely better dealers to do business with
Congrats on the new Sub hope you enjoy it. That will be an exciting new arrival. Regarding DSW I sold them my Explorer 39 a while back and was very happy with the transaction, went super smoothly and the price was good. They didn’t know who I was or anything, but it went great.
Am I the only one that finds the fatter lugs and crown guards more attractive? Despite the movement upgrade, I would pick the previous version in a heart beat.
Yes great video Guy. I feel like Rolex took a step back on this new release! IMHO should have been a 39mm case size (perfect for smaller wrists). Also 22mm bracelet is just too big. Cudos for getting your hands on both. Keep the videos coming
Is it true that 904L is softer than 316L? I've heard that 904L is both harder and softer than 316L from different people, but the little research I've done says it's softer.
Had the sd 16600 lovely watch but it’s getting old and in the end just bored me in the end and got a seamaster 57 trilogy omega. Now I feel alive again with a watch with true character at 7 k. Plain sense really
Great review as usual!! I went to an AD to try one on, and on my smallish wrist it somehow sits better than the older supercase model. I think they made subtle changes but ones that make it better. The longer minute hand that now finally reaches the markers, the thicker hour hand that now looks more cohesive with the minute hand and the slimmer lugs just make it more streamlined compared to the "boxy" feel the supercase gave me. It is the first Submariner I would like to get
Thanks buddy, glad you had time to check it out. The new streamlined profile on this one is definitely a move in the right direction, but at least for me, the new slightly bigger bracelet does make it feel a bit bulkier - not that it’s significant or necessarily even bad.
Great review as always, I have many of the same opinions as yourself on this video and many others. I have to ask you this, what do you think of the new hour hand? I have the same Sub as you but I also have a Pepsi and now I have stared at both of them for an unhealthy amount of time I prefer the newer hour hand found on the newer Sub and GMT’s🤷♂️. Cheers as always 👍
@@JustBlueFish it’s because all of these watches are basically unattainable unless you go grey. The AD’s and their attitude to their customers is also a pathetic experience. I’m not playing anymore. I have one, that’s enough.
Rolex absolutely addressed everything from the super-case “31 series movement” Sub model I found a bit off when it was introduced. Honestly the Sub41 looks like a direct modern replacement from my 5 digit Subs but built significantly better and tighter. Because of this “perfection in the details”, the Sub41 will be the most sought after model for a long, long, time. 😵💫. There is no getting around this. It’s going to be a real world $15k+ model maybe forever. I just won’t let the AD games and acquisition cloud the actual watch because it’s a innocent victim in the wallet flexing game. The dial to bezel ratio is perfect. I also love the new lugs, fatter hour hand and wider clasp. The clasp now looks in proper proportion and scale to the head of the watch. Previous Sub the clasp looked a little diminutive. Everything about these changes complete the look. I compare this to what Rolex did between the first gen DSSD and second gen DSSD with new bracelet. I also find it interesting that the dial and hands of the Sub 41 are now the exact same size as the SD43. Now the GMT line looks a bit dated.🤫
Regrettably selling my 116610LN as I picked up a 124060, however I do think the last gen has more character and fits better on my wrist, and is even more elegant despite the wider lugs. I think your findings are spot on, esp. regarding that the watch fits bigger due to the bracelet (and also the spaced out dial). If only I could keep them both...
Oh, and the bracelet taper is so much better…..👍. The 32 series movement issues were and are reported but not as significant as other new issues movements always seem to have that pop up.
I've heard some complaints from people about their 32xx movement based watches. I don't own one yet so can't really back up those claims with long term experience but it's concerning to hear more and more complaints for sure.
@@JustBlueFish I am going chalk my previous 32 series movement slowing down to early introduction tweaks. Obviously Rolex has always addressed their movement issues silent behind the scenes. Mostly during routine services are the movement issues fixed silently.
Own both and of course both are fine watches . I do like the changes . Wasn’t sure about 21mm bracelet when first announced but the extra mil I feel gives it a little more uniformed look . The bracelet also just makes it a little more planted on wrist. Although it has to be said the 40mm is also a good wearing watch but the 41mm is fantastic wearing ..
Ya the new model is very nice, I like it, it feels like it's just a bit better in terms but the design. But I'm happy with mine and will sit on it for a while with no regrets.
Thanks a lot for this video. I’m contemplating getting a sub and I may actually go with the older due to the fit/size of the bracelet and clasp. I appreciate the honesty.
@@ES-qe1nh I got the new one, didn’t like it, went with the new Explorer instead. I’m just not a fan of big watches though, felt heavy and cumbersome - for me.
I’m contemplating on getting a submariner, however I would have to sacrifice my GMT-master 16710 (2006) Pepsi. Currently I’ve been waiting for a submariner for over 2 years at my local AD... My dilemma is that I really want a submariner, but given the grey market prices I would have to sacrifice my GMT. However, if I’m lucky to get the call, I can afford to have both. Should I just wait and hope to get lucky or sell the GMT and get new Submariner? Thanks in advance!
I would sell the GMT if you like & enjoy it. Try different AD’s, and stop by few times. Just ask politely if you’re still on the list, and if they expect anytime soon something for you. Show them you’re seriously interested, but don’t “beg” or look to desperate. That’s how I got mine.
@@iTzDKUNIT I would definitely wait and keep the GMT. I understand the inpatients and frustration that comes with it, been there myself. Personally, I wouldn’t spend the premium. I got my Sub within 6 months. Of course that can vary, depending on your country, City, AD. Why, if you can, try different AD’s. Stop by from time to time and ask politely about the status. Good luck & I bet you will get it by the end of the year.
Of course it is just my opinion: I think 4omm is the best size for all wrist size. In my particular case, it is the maximum I can wear (small wrist here). Another consideration is the design: I tried different watches of 41mm and while some looked big others give the impression that they are smaller. But knowing that a watch is 40mm, I am sure it will fit me perfectly. Thanks for a great review.
You can sell directly to DavidSW, Exquisite Timepieces, or any other reputable watch dealer. While you won't get top dollar you will get a secure and hassle free transaction. If you need to get top dollar, you accept risk, but places like Chrono24.com are watch selling marketplaces.
