Interesting video and there are various subtle variations within the iconic 16610 Submariner series. I've been the proud owner of my 16610 steel Sub since July 2002. It has the drilled case lugs, 904L SELs on its original 93250 bracelet with DT3 markings, which indicate the bracelet was manufactured in March 2002 and then mated to the case. A simply magnificent watch and I still prefer its more elegant proportions to the newer versions and rather bling bling ceramic bezels - although they remain certainly outstanding watches. Mine has been all over the world with me. After its recent full Rolex service (only its 2nd) it still looks like and performs like it did the day I collected it from the AD, with only a new crown and bezel insert replaced after 20 years. It's still the jewel in my collection, that also include a pair of new Tudor BB58s in black/gilt and navy blue ( I just love them), Omega Seamaster 300 and several other pieces. Rolex last a lifetime and deserve their lofty status IMHO.
I have a 2002 Y-Series 16610 with drilled lugs. With the 2003 Y-Series these drilled lugs were sadly discontinued. I'm glad I have a model WITH these nice and useful holes in the lugs.
I find the no-holes case to look significantly better in terms of surface continuity, but the holes are so indicative of a tool watch, and they really do make older Submariners feel ready for battle.
Bracelet stretch is not necessarily a bad thing to have. With more stretch comes along more flexibility = more comfort wearing it. As far as rattling sounds with the bracelet, well once the watch is worn on the wrist, and with the bracelet wrapped around the wrist, shaking the arm wouldn't replicate that rattling at all.
I own a 16610 since 1991. What to say.......Rolex is not so reliable as someone can say. It's my personal opinion, of course, but I had only problems with this watch. Always serviced by Rolex sellers and always troubles. Now, after 32 years, I'm really thinking about to sell it as soon as possible.
Lovely watch . It wouldnt have the 3135 movement and you mentioned braclet . I like these braclets more than the new ones and i like 5 diggit subs . My omega seamaster was to big and the wunchester jewler took the oin out and knocked the oin in .!all done in 5 mins . Seencsome great reps of the 5 digit 3135 clone m series . A bp factory an you cant tell a gen for a fake . 50 to 150quid reps are crap but my m series is clone . Even the jewler said how much he liked it . If it was a £80 150 rep he would know . Had this super rep 6 years an just looks better with age . 3 sec + a day after 6 yrs and there better now .
The best series they ever made, especially the last of the transitional version of them before the ugly 116610 era begins. Oil the bezel and each hing joint of the bracelet. These bracelet deployment clasps will outlast the new style by 3 to 5 times. Also they use a forge and stamping press for the clasps in the new type, they're not at all milled out of bars of steel, you're spreading Rolex fairy tails and sycophantic myths to the masses that know nothing about these industrial arts.
So true. The new case is ugly and bulky and don't even get me started on the crown guards. The price of the new ones is insane too although i think all the new rolexes are way overpriced
I can push out and knock in the link pins in my old Seamaster's and Speedmaster's in about 5 minutes flat with a $10 Chinese watch tool set. And they're solid as fuck and will never back out like a screw can. I wish people would stop hating on pins and collars. And it doesn't stop people from paying $70,000 for a Patek Phillipe Nautilus!
