I’m a well experienced diver , went diving on many sites , and never wore a Rolex Sub ceramic which is my own watch. Long story short , was diving in SEA , in Malaysia where the South China Sea is ,that day , before initiating the dive , I checked all the instruments and they were working properly. However I had a gut feeling myself so I decided to bring with me also my Rolex Sub in ceramic strapped to my other wrist. While reaching 60 meters of depth , my diving computer started to have a malfunction (I thought you gotta be f**ing kidding me?!) fortunately I also timed the dive on the sub ceramic before initiating the dive. I used my Rolex to time decompression stops and re-emerge on the surface , I am alive today to post this message thanks to my Rolex sub which helped me survive without causing my blood to boil if I was emerging too fast. The watch still ticks to this day. Mark
Have a couple hundred dives (max 40m) on my 1998 Submariner. Used to be my one and only watch for about 10 years, now I wear it mainly when I go diving. Not that I need it (dive computer does a better job) but because of the good all times (21 years now) and the way it feels to have it back on my wrist 😀
I went from the Submariner to the Seadweller simply because I went from showering to bathing. I can wholeheartedly state that the Seadweller hasn’t let me down yet 👍🏻
It doesn’t matter if you go diving with your dive watch or not. If you like the style and you want an over engineered daily beater with a 1 hour timer, get a dive watch. Oh and you can go diving too....
I have a Sea-Dweller (1665) which was my 21st birthday present from my parents in 1977. I also have a GMT II (116710LN) - luxury purchase 10 years ago. I have some diving in the past (recreational stuff and used a Citizen Promaster Diver - didn’t want to scratch the Sea-Dweller ! ) Strange they bought me a Rolex as my Father was an Omega man, wearing the watch he was issued when he was in the Fleet Airarm (WWII) every day until his death in 2014 . (This watch was apparently ‘well worn’ so he had it serviced and recased, keeping the original white face, in 1956 by Dennison - done ‘privately’, after all, it was ‘his watch’ !) I am its custodian now - a prized possession !!
I've been diving for 30 years and I have never had any reason to use a dive watch, they've been obsolete since '83 or '84 when usable, reliable dive computers came about. These are just fashion accessories now.
I have a Sea Dweller, I was told I wont be able to compare the few watches I wanted , made the right choice ,still love it, after 15 years, just had it serviced , comes back like a new one .
The bracelet’s guidelock on the Deepsea is truly fantastic, so easy to adjust, and when travelling facilitates easy/quick adjustments for expanstion of the wrist that’s enevitable at high altitudes or going from cold to hot/hot to cold climates. Definitely the main feature of the watch that’s indigenous to the deepsea that’s rarely called out but yet so innovative, reliable, easy to use and useful/practical. Love it !! Great video, great channel, great presentations in all you do, well done.
Hey guys. Not sure I should admit to this, but I own a DSSD and I don’t baby it - at all. I’ve taken it diving - both desk and ocean - running, mountain biking, camping. It’s my everyday watch and by that I don’t mean to sound snobby or anything - it took me a while to save up for it and I enjoy wearing a lot because it makes me smile. My philosophy is if you’re going to spend your hard earned cash on a watch that has amazing build quality and you love it, why not enjoy as much as you can? Isn’t that the point of owning these time pieces? Because they make us happy; they pull at our heartstrings? And just to be clear and safe, I bought an insurance policy on my DSSD because, hey, you never know...
Cool, they look amazing. My biggest problem with Subs are they're always just flopping around on your wrist when you're in motion. My fitness tracking watches are all aluminum and fit snug with a stretchy rubber band.
Why would you not want to admit using your Deepsea as a daily beater?? That’s what I use mine for. I’ll never use the 12,000ft but I love the over engineering of the watch
Thanks Ed! I too love the over engineering with it as well, not to mention, relative to my wrists and hands, it looks like a thicker Submariner. It’s been through a lot and just keeps on ticking - averaging about +1.6 seconds a day per 90 days when I measure it. One great watch!
Omg fair play. At last a normal person who enjoys an amazing and incredibly engineered timepiece and doesn't just hide it away in a safe. Good on you. Enjoy your watch in good health my friend .
I read the comments here and as always with the subject Rolex, there are the different fan groups. I am happy that Rolex, Omega and others make great watches. I worked for one of the groups and I can tell you, that the atmosphere was always that of a lot of respect for each other and the products. A gentleman's rivalry. It was also this sporty rivalry that gave the world some of the best watches.
George Beckford the Submariner was sold to civilians and the Fifty Fathoms military only until ‘56 when Blancpain saw that the Submariner was selling well. The Fifty Fathoms may have been first but the Submariner made the dive watch popular.
Another awesome video, Hans was a genius. Pro tip Rolex haters...a Rolex was in the thumbnail, you didn't have to watch. So much butthurt and whining...it's like going to a restaurant and eating your whole meal, then sit there cleaning your lips with a handkerchief, burping...and complain about how absolutely horrid, disgusting and unpleasurable the meal was.....but did you have to clean the plate to figure that out.
The dive watch is my favorite style, but these Rolex's just have too much shit written all over them. I don't need the entire stat sheet written on the face. How does no one have a problem with that? "Original Gas Escape Valve, Oyster Perpetual Date, Deep Sea, Sea Dweller, 12800fs 3900m, Superlative Chronomter, Officially Certified, Ring Lock System". Give me a break.
@Giovanni Bellesia I'm glad I'm not the only one that sees this! I have several dive watches that are so much cleaner on the face! I used to really like these Rolex's but after comparing other brands design to this, it just bothers me.
@@kayoedowner6711 I just think rolex get a disproportionate amount of airtime, given they've been spoken about so much we learn nothing new- there's other brands that deserve more coverage . Love the channel, but bored with bland rolex's.
I am a certified, credentialed horologist and an experienced commercial deep sea diver. I can categorically state that the Rolex Sea-Dweller (126600) is the finest dive watch made. It is horological perfection and an indispensable precision diving tool. This universally accepted fact is backed by overwhelming technical and scientific data and evidence.
Sub is 40mm, Sea Dweller 40-43, DeepSea 44mm. Some people like me like their watches big. After 200m the pressure will start squishing your body anyway.
Rolex advertising watches that you can't buy even if you have the cash in hand is the horological equivalent of the infamous Popeyes chicken sandwhich debacle. Uncouth Rolex!
That's a bit biased I'd say. I got 3 watches from rolex (daytona, yachtmaster and datejust, all bi metal) and now I'm eligible to be on the list for any Rolex I'd like. How's that any different from Audemars Piguiet for instance? I have to purchase a 26400io just to get in the list for a 15500st. The 26400io was never on my radar and I hope I like it when it eventually arrives in a few months.
Not another Rolex dive watch advertising video. It's boring they all look the same. It's a load of nonsense. How many Rolex's get more than a rinse under the tap? No one takes a Rolex proper Scuba diving. If you're doing anything bigger than a 20 meter dive you will be wearing a dive computer not some luxury antiquated watch worth more than the entire scuba kit you're wearing. Anyway didn't Blancpain invent the dive watch? Rolex just copied it. I'm not sure about the quality control on the font. Looks like it's not just GMT hands that have a QC problem.
Mark Michael I’m not sure about Blancpain. I would like to have a good look at one but they are so rare. I’ve heard they are very well made but they are very expensive. They did invent the dive watch though. I do think it’s silly to make watches that will still function after a humans skeleton is crushed by water pressure but some watches are a exercise in engineering rather than common sense. You can’t beat a normal Sub or Seamaster if you want a dive watch although I can see people starting to get bored with dive watches and constant retro style watches. Time will tell👍🏼
Its still an enjoyable watch - but I think you are right and Blancpain came out with the first dive watch - and Zodiac slightly after them - strictly speaking I think Rolex were the 3rd manufacturer of a dive watch, not the original......
I remember on the watch forums all the Rolex fans in a major flap over the Deep Seas "massive" 44mm case, and all the Breitling and Seiko owners looking at their Superocean`s and "Tuna`s" wondering what the big deal was LOL
I have a Deep Sea and I like it. But I wish I had kept my Submariner though. Now however I mainly wear a Longines HydroConquest chronograph automatic. Or a Omega Automatic chronograph Seamaster . I mainly have dive watch because I am a professional diver. The Deep-Sea is a watch I will never max out in anyway . For most of my diving 200m is more then adequate. Another watch I had which was a great dive watch was the Seiko SLD005 scubamaster .
Pretty cool you actually use all these watches like they are intended. I don’t dive but I went snorkeling for the first time a few months ago in Hawaii with my seamaster on it was a pretty cool experience to look at a sea turtle and then do a wrist check
I need some advice from Rolex owners out there. I been working with Rolex AD to buy my first Rolex. I get a call today Dec 10 he has a 2022 Sea Dweller 126600 Red line just came in from Rolex brand new for me and to buy at retail. I had originally told him I wanted anything Submariner or Gmt in Oystersteel. Appointment is tomorrow. Any Rolex I buy will be with me forever. I know this is not as popular as other two. Would anyone here still buy this if they were in my position? Were you still happy you bought this? Plus I see they do not hold value long term like other models either. Don't know what to do plus do not want to piss off AD. Help! Serious replies only, Thanks.
I want to buy one as a forever watch because it's weird, overkill, and obscure for a daily watch. Submariners are Hondas, then maybe Daytonas for as often as you see them out in the world. A Yacht-Master, that's rare, a Miligaus, or new Air King, same thing. If you're going to spend this kind of money, get something that's closer to one of a kind.
My ideal Rolex is an Omega Planet Ocean. In fact, the Planet Ocean on my wrist right now. Kidding aside, the only reason I would want a Sub is because of James Bond. Connery was a huge Rolex guy, but I don't hold that against him.
But that is part of the charm, simple easy to read watches, no clutter, just good honest top draw build quality, a pursuit of accuracy that other brands aspire to, yes many of their watches appear to look the same but when you look closely they don't due to subtle differences between each design. If you had asked me 6 months ago what I thought of Rolex I would have told you that they were over-priced jewellery. Now I own my first, the watch is just stunning and I am saving like mad for my second Rolex. Please don't get me wrong I am not a Rolex fanboy as I own watches from Longines, Omega and Citizen all brilliant brands in their own way and I will buy more watches from each but at the moment I am loving getting to grips with the Rolex marque.
Who is trying to tell time at these depths? The human body will be crushed long before the watch is breached. If you need to tell time 3900m below surface then wth is wrong with you? Next up, being able to tell time in molten lava
Watchfinder: (about Rolex) "The brand having kickstarted the entire dive watch legacy pretty much single-handedly." Blancpain Fifty Fathoms: "Am I a joke to you?"
I love watches. Although I cannot justify spending this kind of money on a time piece, I appreciate them more than perhaps someone with means who could own several watches like these Rolex diving watches. However, except for the original Sea Master the other two 'upgrades' were way too thick for daily use imho, but I am sure they would both make great diving watches for the affluent.
Yep, that's one of the nicest Rolex sports watches from over the decades. I just wish it had the Maxi-dial in that case, like the Green Sub Date of the 2000s.
Just the job for snorkeling in the Mediterranean! 😄 ha ha! You buy the watch because it's beautifully made and designed. I don't wear my SeaMaster when I snorkel (I've got an original Seiko Tuna can from the 70's for that!) I love the 'Deep Sea' - I will buy one and enjoy just looking at it and marvelling at the work that went into it.
Locutus D'Borg lool That’s a bit harsh haha I own a sub and seamaster 2018 and Rolex has been overtaken. I don’t think Rolex even care they seem to be more interested in moving towards brand image rather than making the best watch which is a shame
@@jamescollett2625 I keep going back and forth on a Sub or 2018 Seamaster... Currently on the waiting list for the Sub, but man, I really like that Omega.. Investment aside, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the two....
Steve Jordan the sub is a more elegant look and looks amazing under a bright light indoors. The feel of the 904l steel is significantly better than the 316l steel which omega(and every other luxury watch brand uses). 904l steel is technically weaker than 316 steel though lol) the bezel is way easier to turn. And the bezel does give off a lovely sparkly look dye to the jagged edges. Very accurate indeed some days gaining no time at all. This is just luck though of course. The glare on the dial is annoying as in direct light it can be difficult to see which is sad as the dial is beautiful. The omega looks cooler as it is a sportier design. When outside the dial is stunning, much nicer than the Rolex. Movement is better of course, antimagnetic as well, testing of the movement is second to none you can even see your watch and results which Rolex don’t do. From conversations to people Rolex watches over time go outside of the superlative chronometer stats so no sure how reliable and trustworthy their claims are. I personally prefer the bracelet design and the glide clasp is better than the Rolex. Servicing is 10 years minimum so it’s a very solid movement omega have made massive strides forward with the master chronometer. The omega is more exciting to look at but under certain lighting I would say the Rolex looks more beautiful with the white gold and deep black dial
Just to add the blue dial outside is stunning. I used to prefer the black dial but now prefer the blue so ended up buying the blue. It’s more iconic in blue as well
@@martinjn2920 Those have only be feautred 41299 times. In Contrast, the Breitling Super Avenger, which has been requested for 345 years now : Zero feature. I sense they're being racist against that watch.
@Mark Michael Yep, me too along with all the other videos that Watchfinder release as they are so good irrespective of whether you are a fan of the watch (s) in the video.
I had a Rolex 114060 with splotchy and uneven lume. Contacted Rolex since it was under warranty and Rolex claimed this poor quality was within their specifications and nothing will be done about it. A bloody joke. It’s a brand hyped up to crazy levels by social media. They are decent watches but no where worth the prices people are asking for them now.
Good video/content. But, for ME, features MUCH more imporant to me is being able to read the time at a glance . Under most llight conditions/reflections...which means the watch MUST have an AR coating....which these watches added only recently Sea Dweller last year and the Sub
None of these watches are used by offshore divers, we actually have a real dive watches that are computers, and they are made by suunto, they are 200m and that's all we need, these are nice to wear to out and that's it, divers will never use these to work in lol.
What an interesting review really enjoyed it.and I still love my sub after 23 years on my wrist. Watchfinder give the far best reviews. Keep up the good work.
Ok, I like technology as much as the next guy, but the only person who could actually use these really deep watches is Aquaman (or Superman). The rest of us would be dead long before then. So bragging rights OK, but how many owners of those 3900m watches would actually even swim with them? You know, given how much they cost and how difficult it takes to get one?
Of course not me tio ex but balancing 12.000 meters depth of pressure gas is used to inject into the watch so to balance the pressure. The tremendous pressure on the every milimeter of the watch 13.000 tons of pressure unimaginable to cope with!!!
@@j.taveras8447 the part of online community that is butthurt by Rolex is the same part that can't afford one. They all circlejerk over shitter brands while only buying a Seiko or some no name micro brand.
this is stupid, there have been only six people who have ever dove below 300 meters, no one has made it to 350 meters, ad we know that all gasses are poisonous to humans at 500 meters, if you go any deeper, you are in a pressurized suit, or you are in a submarine, in both cases, the watch you wear doesn't even have to be waterproof because its in a pressure vessel, with you! basically ts useless to make a watch that can go deeper than 500 meters, because at 500 meters, 2oolbs of heliox tanks that would last you 12 hours at the surface, will last you 5 minutes. i would NEVER buy a watch beyond 350 meters, the record is 332, and if i were to go that deep, Im dead anyway, who cares about the watch if I'm dead? James Cameron could have worn a Casio watch to challenger deep, hell, he could have brought a cereal box watch with him HE WAS IN A SUBMERSIBLE now i suppose he could have left the watch tied to just outside his window to test it, but why? he could have had an apple watch on his wrist. he was in a submarine!/bathyscaphe
Forget about the depth unless you are a saturation diver, for normal people you’ll find that the sea Dweller is a great watch but a large lump of steel on your wrist, the Deep sea is even bigger and heavier,I went for a submariner great watch and not to heavy,,the other two you can’t get your shirt sleeve over the watch
While not nearly a sexy you shouldn't forget that the helium escape valve was developed with Doxa and while Rolex focused on professional dive pieces Doxa released their timepiece to the masses. And then there was the quartz crisis and to the Victor go the spoils.
The Deepsea is a marvel of engineering. I am very happy with mine. A lot of Rolex haters around here. 🤷♂️😁. If you don't like them, that is perfectly fine. Judt move on. It is just a watch.
A very very respect and congrats to rolex for this deep sea diving. For me it is ultimate professional military watch. Water proof and idiot- proof and advanced human achievement 👍
You are by far the best watch storyteller in the world. Thanks for sharing! Although I wonder... would you recommend some books about these stories? I have no idea where to begin looking.
I wonder if the Airhead instagram vane bimbos and shallows that love posing with these watches, understand the delicate craftmanship and historical legacy behind these watches. I'm sure they don't. I'm also sure that Rolex doesn't care that they don't ....
The damn thing is going to have a life time warranty, what are you all worried about, if I had 1 and could dive I would go as deep as possible, especially as no 1 in the comments seems to have not dived more than 20M.
I've been down 48 meters for 30 minutes on a wreck in Cyprus on O2. I've been down 38 meters in a shitty cold lake in Poland with sulfur emerging from the bottom, I've had nitrous symptoms despite thinking I'm not having them. I've had mostely good times when diving for many years including accidents, 1 near death experience and mostly great times at below 10m in warm waters. 300m is ridiculous, there is no way anyone going down that deep will carry any Rolex, Omega or other fashion crap when life is at stake. Having said that, I will be buying a 300 meter Certina soon and... the video/audio of this channel far surpases its merrit despite me being a watch newbe. I shall retire to my whiskey now.
@@bamarocks777 I may have been too harsh, the correct term is "luxury watches" not "fashion crap" If you think people are putting their life on Rolex instead of professional dive gear you are very gullible. This doesn't change the fact I love luxuray watches, I like Rolex along with dozens more luxary brands. Peace :)
Pawel Kotelnicki the engineering in a Rolex Deepsea vastly surpasses any professional dive gear short of getting into an extremely specialist research sub. That’s why we buy them, no one needs a 12,800 ft dive watch.
@@bombazine2 I agree to a degree. I would compare this to a professional mechanic using different tools than a weekend upper middle class Porsche owner. My mechanic laughs at me when I show him my Wera tools as would a professional diver laugh when seeing a 20K USD Rolex dive/tool watch. They are still luxury watches, if you want a dive tool, you get a proper wrist computer.
Had the Deepsea available at the Rolex Boutique For some reason I really wasn't feeling it Came back the next week Bought the Rootbeer and Batman on the same day with my dad Dunno how we got that lucky
Wanna let me know the location of that AD so I might have a shot at picking something? Lol Btw, the Root Beer was a great pick up. I own one too. One of my favs, but my DSSD is my daily - love it.
