Another piece of equipment on the list! Actually.. you can roll crimp any hull with an aggressive 8 or 6 point fold pattern. If length of load allows, trim the fold off and roll crimp as usual. Thanks for the video...
I do this too. I'm not sure if it makes for the ultimate shell/roll combo or not but it does mean saving and re-using shells that would otherwise be no good because the crimping has split.
shadowcastre - Hello to ya, sir...!! Yes, indeed - and we can make our own hull trimmers as well. But so much easier to pick up once fired slug hulls at the range...I just picked up 40 more Winchester slug hulls a couple of days ago to add to my stash. Slugs are being shot constantly at our range. Have a great day, FC Steve
It looked like you didn't power coat the frangible slugs. Does the gas seal work like a gas check? Are you casting slugs harder then handgun bullets? I've been reading 9mm 40s&w and 45 acp because of you and elvis. Thanks for all the r&d.
Hello FortuneCookie45LC. Great advice as always! At the end of the video, the roll crimps with the blue coated Russian slugs looks like the inner fold does not reach all the way down to hold the slug in place. Am I just seeing things? If you were to shake these, is there a rattling? What roll crimper was used to do those?
Christopher Carter - You are very observant. The Federal hulls are shorter than the Winchesters and the Remington slug hulls - that is the reason the roll crimps don't quite reach the conical nose hydrant slugs. However, there is absolutely no rattle at all no matter how hard you shake those. I've set my slug seater to give a bit of compression to the powder charge, and all that is lost if there is rattle in the loaded rounds. The same Serbian roll crimper was used in the entire video. Best to ya, FC Steve
That is some good looking ammunition you have loaded there. Looks as precise as factory. As I mentioned before I am not a reloader of shotgun shells but I am impresses by this Russian system and this heavy duty roll crimper.
I'm glad we don't have to use shotgun slugs for hunting now. They hit like Thor's hammer at close range but I'll take a rifle any day. Still interesting. Have fun.
Randy Zwieg - When I shoot these 12 gauge slugs at the range with my TC Encore, I can't help but think of how awful it would have been if these were available during the Civil War...Best to ya, FC Steve
Hello to Nick J..!! The Russian frangible slugs are designed to be attached to wads via that screw...then the wad acts like a tail wad for slug stability in flight. I have the Russian Paradox mold on order...it takes the core pin for the screw attach to cast those... Good castin' to ya, FC Steve
I cant believe you only have 40k subscribers. The russian slug is exactly what I have been looking for. How can I get the hardest lead slug without it being brittle. Thx
Edward Porter - If my dad had said that, I'd remember it also. What my dad said was, "Son, if you are going to get something, get a good one..." Take care, Steve
mrbriancnc - That is the Russian Frangible Slug from Russian molds. The ReloadersNetwork is currently getting those molds in quantity to cut down on the shipping and then going to be offering those to sell to us along with the special tail wads that some of the slugs use. The price to us should be on par to us ordering from Russia ourselves, plus we won't have to wait 3-4 weeks for delivery. As you might know, these molds have different inserts to cast slugs allowing those wads as well as with screw holes to attach to other wads. The Russians and Europeans have slug technology that is much more versatile and advanced than what we have in slug molds here. I've already tested the hydrant and frangible slugs and they shoot with accuracy equal to or even surpassing our factory slugs now. I've tried Lee and Lyman slug molds, and the Russian molds blow them right out of the water..!! Pity that Lee nor Lyman never bothered to provide us with their versions of same - the Russian and European technology has been around for decades. 'Bout time they got on this side of the pond... Best to ya, FC Steve
Steve Obee - This is one real winner of a roll crimper. The BPI isn't bad either, but we don't need those Foster slugs any longer with the availability of the Russian molds - stay tuned as they will soon be available from TheReloadersNetwork from what I understand... FC Steve
SD - Where did you get yours? The one in this video was made in Serbia. If you have one like it, there are several viewers who want one... Best to ya, FC Steve
Z - I've roll crimped a lot of hulls and can safely say that this Serbian roll crimper is very hard to beat. Hopefully, I'll be able to get Milorad to make a bunch more of these to make available on TheReloadersNetwork - and if the price is OK, it's going to be very popular indeed. Milorad might not be in the mood for turning these out though.. Best to ya, Z...always great getting your comments... Steve
$25 isn’t gonna happen with machining like that. Even mass produced quality roll crimpers are in the $45-$50 price range. Google GAEP RELOADING or OMV RELOADING. TOP QUALITY CRIMPERS and shotshell equipment.
