This Style 15 American Fotoplayer was originally built in 1916 to accompany silent films. Nate Otto completed the restoration of this instrument in 2023. If you'd like to further support my work, you can find out more over on Patreon.
Thanks for posting that Nate! I always assumed the QRS 88 note roll would be the same arrangement as the DA 4 hands version, but it is quite different, with more swing. Happy New Year!
No, that was my mistake. I accidentally let go of the reroll button, causing the top spool to stop and allowing the bottom take up spool to freewheel. There's a brake that's supposed to prevent all this, but I had to disable the brake because it was inadvertently damaging old brittle rolls.
Fun playing, but too bad about this hiss. I first saw one of these at the original Musical Museum in London, in 1993, which has now moved to another building.
The extra noise is from the blowers. In a proper theater space the blowers would be in a separate room to isolate the sound. I don't have that luxury in my shop.
