"Its NOT the size of your thighs! It's the planting and the lifting, the crossing and releasing!" I've been so worried my thighs and my knees are too fat for crossovers! Thankyou Dirty Deb'!😘
This is funny because when I first started skating, I did this exact exercise for like a week over and over. I began off skates just doing it in my living room on my carpet, then moved to skates. It helped ALOT!! Practicing these fundamental skills really builds muscle, helps your balance, and just makes your body stronger overall. Love you Deb! Thank you for continuing to make these videos.
So glad I found your channel. I've learnt so much to fulfil my dream of skating and finally taking the plunge to have my first lesson at the age of 53 lol!
I learned how to backwards skate while skating and watching her video for the 1st time. Now here I am learning what a crossover is. I love her teachings she’s Awesome! ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Dirty! I watched this video and practiced on the carpet. Today went to the skatepark and practiced for about 40 mins trying to crossover my right side is better than my left. About the 60 mins mark I finally experienced the left side crossover! I was so excited, i made sure to add an extra 15 mins to my park time just to make sure it stuck. Thanks for all your lessons on here.
Can you do a video on how to get over your fear of skating backwards? I have been skating since I was little, I am aware of how to skate backwards, but I am just scared to do it for a prolonged time.
Ok. So i will try to fight the magnetic death grip that the earth has on my feet and actually lift the darn skate up and over the other and practice these crossovers. Because “ I can’t “ is not an option.
So laced up and hit the garage for my daily practice. Today was squats on wheels, standing on one leg both crane and flamingo and with the aid of a small carpet square…crossovers. Yup, about 100 of them (so only like 900 more to go) and i got this.
I just unlocked this after trying all summer for months. This video reallllllly helped me since it came out ..so happy right now . I watched it a lot of times
I’m done with skating .. sorry I’m older. I was good once. but no no more .I can’t do this anymore. I go out and walk. Then I walk fast. Sorry. I’m too old.
Skating will always be a part of you. Once you have experienced the feel, it is part of your soul. Perhaps you will now discover another activity that brings you the joy that skating once did.
Thank you for taking the time to do another crossover tutorial. I am one of those new skaters that can't seem to get it down. I keep moving to other things and it's definitely hindering my progress. I need to practice the crossover so I can improve in other areas.
I've been practicing my crossovers and definitely have that uneasy foot! Thanks for the push! Hoping that continued practice will help me feel more confident on the weaker side!
been taking skating seriously for abt a month now and i can skate forward, back, transition forward to back, i can jump, i can quick stop, i can moonwalk and what not. i’ve been trying to work on crossovers but i just can’t get it, and it makes me feel like a failure because i felt like i’ve learned so much so quick, but it feels like im losing that ability because of my *inability* to do something. this is so helpful deb. so inspirational. love ur channel sm :) also, recently went to a rink for the first time. so fun!
Just found your channel.. Love, 'love' your personality and humor! Grew up skating going to a rink every Sat.. It's been 'decades' but watching you is so uplifting all I want to do is get my skates back on! Thank you for all you're doing!!
This woman is just INCREDIBLE! The quality of breaking down the insructions! What a gifted teacher! Add to that the confidence and personality, chefs kiss! I know within days of practicing in my living room iam making so much progress just because of her.
hey deb! i wanted to thank you :D it’s only my SECOND day getting back into skates, and you’ve given me the confidence to go out on a rink! i’ve learned how to skate backwards, and cruise on my speed skates! currently learning how to transition, but i’m confident i can do it! thank you so much!!
Perfect timing! Yesterday I realized how much I need to strengthen my thighs and hips just to be able to go up and down the curb on skates 🤭 not crossovers, but I think this practice applies to it as well. Thank you!!!
Hi Deb! I’m just curious: as I’m a beginner, if my back is hurting while skating, do you think my posture may be wrong? I know you can’t say much without actually seeing my posture, but I’d appreciate your thoughts!
@@Dirtydeborahharry thank you so much, Deb! As I’m learning by myself, I’m continuously wondering if I’m doing something wrong. This is encouraging to know that the pain I’m experiencing is common. I appreciate your videos and feedback/interactions. Can’t wait to visit your rink one day 🤟🏾
Oh no!! I broke my wrist skating on Mothers day off all days. Had surgery on it 4 days later and I'm able to take my brace off and move it. So trust me I know the feeling :( I was more sad/mad that I wouldnt be able to skate for a few weeks!!
Wow! This drill made such a difference for me yesterday. I will be adding this to my warm ups for every skate session. Just did it without skates. Focusing on the counter balance is some effective practice.
Dirty deb, you opened my eyes! I always thought I was too short to do a cross-over…my mind is blown!! That open shoulder is the 🔑!! Ahh thank you Dirty! 👏
HELLO SUPE TEACHER, I THANK YOU INFINITELY FOR THIS TUTORIAL, THE MOVEMENT OF THE ARMS HAS HELPED ME SO MUCH. EVERYONE TAKES IT FOR GRANTED, YOU INSTEAD EXPLAIN EVERY SMALL DETAIL. THAT WAS THE TURNING POINT FOR ME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. NOW I JUST HAVE TO PRACTICE I'm writing to you from Italy. I'm sending you a big hug
Deborah I'm older trying to get back into skating was always good at forward skating but I've been binge watching your backwards skating vids...Can you make a video of all the different ways to stop while going backwards 🙂 you're a extremely talented skater by the way and nice on the eyes...lol
So I’m back. I am skate videographer who’s been focused on recording skates but not the strongest skater. I owe this to myself to become better and stronger. So I’m starting today. Thank you Deb!
Thank you so much, you are really a great teacher! But you know, nowadays I am going to practice and I getting some pain in my right Achille's tendon... What am I getting wrong in your opinion? I always remember your words (chin up and so on) but... How can I do? Thank you so much 💖 keep on like this. I am always watching you
The Fact that I feel a Whole more comfortable from doing this once is Ridiculous! I got to the part when you said don't just step but actually pause and said to myself well dang I guess I have to practice again lol
Are you putting the skate that crossed over slightly to the front when you put it down or next to /inline with skate you didn’t pick up. Need a side shot of you doing it :)
My only issue with crossovers on roller skates, is my wheels interlocking, because I'm still used to doing crossovers on ice skates, where my feet can be closer together.oh yeah, did I mention, guess who's skates finally arrived after three months!!!
Ok just did this and now my inner thighs are sore 😂! Wow I didn’t know how bad I’m outta shape! Will keep practicing! I skated for years when I was younger and now after some years trying it again! I never could do crossovers a little knot knees but now I’m going to master it ! Thank you 🙏
I'm so excited to see my progress after doing this drill! Perfect for the small space I have at home. And I'm so glad you commented on moving while doing this. I've been trying to figure out why I was rolling forward and you weren't. And I've been blaming my thighs so I truly needed this video!
The only other time i skated before was in march and i was so hesitant to skate and trying not trying to fall. But, I have been wanting to again and I finally got my own skates today! I have been watching videos and yours was the best that helped me. I have learned so much from your videos already and being less hesitant to fall and just skate. Thank u :D
Debra, you're in fine form here as always. I'm all vaxxed up and have recently started back into my skating routine. This looks like a nice exercised to knock the rust off! Enjoyed! 👍
Question about alternating crossovers when I am going forward in a straight line - how do I keep the momentum going? After the second or third cross I have no speed left and then my wheel gets stuck and I trip. Any tips? 💗(And of course, thanks for the incredible videos and your enthusiasm!!!!)
