The thing is; As a child the opening screens seem so magical and you spend so long just watching it in amazement thinking "Oh my god they look so cool" and "You can build that!?".
It's still available on GOG and Steam for real cheap, I bought the original three and am working on my first full playthrough of the series, it has been a huge nostalgia trip!
My brother and I played this game religiously when we were kids. It just brings back so many memories, especially this opening music when you open the game. I liked watching all the amusement parks unfold before my very eyes.

I always make sure the trains arrive at 30kmh or below exactly because of that... Ah and the water splash of the wooden coaster is a good reliable brake!
I do believe we have aged a bit since, i have shown more interest in achieving perfect park ratings and listening to what guests say about your park than about building death coasters and watching guests drown in your park. I find that actually trying to beat the game is more satisfying than anything else.

You have basically no room to make new rides) 1:42-2:08: Aqua Park (Pretty cool but where are the rollercoasters?) 2:08-2:20: Millennium Mines (A huge park with just that one train ride) 2:20-2:59: Karts & Koasters (Cool park and cool rides. But there's WAY too many trees!) 2:59-3:38: Mel's World (Very cool park with awesome rides and nice cobblestone paths) 3:38-4:29: Crumbly Woods (Fact: All the rides here are like 20-30 years old. It's tempting to tear them down and make new ones but please don't. I mean look how awesome these rides are) 4:29-4:55: Lightning peaks (Definitely has the best chairlifts, but building rollercoasters is a real pain in this scenario) 4:55-5:07: Ivory Towers (Ghetto in the beginning. Really good in the end) 5:07-5:18: Back to Diamond Heights
I alwas tear the old rides down in Crumbly Woods and build exact copies of them, older rides don't do well in attracting new guests and they break down too often

I have just realised that the music reflects a coaster ride. The opening bars are the lift hill, which transition into the exuberant downhills and twists and turns that slowly transition to a slowing at the end to indicate the brake run/end of the ride. Clever.
A hilarious thing I recently read was that it was too difficult/labor intensive/whatever to animate the guests actually swimming to safety so the logical solution was to just let them literally die, that's peak dark comedy right there Helps that I did custom maps all the time and set the bathroom price to max of $20.00 and set a "NO EXIT" to the literal *entrance* of the park so guests couldn't contradict my edict of perpetual custom-based bladder release (thinking about it now as an adult that's just a recipe for public shitting/pissing on your park's shit but as a kid I thought it was *hilarious* ) Plus the heaps of rides that either were a shuttle coaster ride to the moon (with a side of fiery explosion...yeahh!!) or a nice simple ride with an exit straight into Davy Jones' Locker, poor guests....but I guess charging $20.00 for popcorn or cotton candy was sorta prescient since that's basically reality nowadays....inflation is nearing that point, but yeah in the late 90s that was super high (hence the max of $20)
I remember trying "car tycoon" since it was a random game I think that my dad downloaded onto the family computer and it just crashed at the moment you ever did anything important lel Edit: Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis was decent, not as deep or interesting as RCT but still fun, just for the option of getting millions of dollars and creating a dinosaur buffet for your guests to "enjoy"
Toward the end of the 3 year campaign on that scenario, one of the black or white steel coasters will have a station brakes failure causing a crash killing your guests. Best work around is to add a braking section right before the station and adjust the brake sections to 4 mph to solve that issue. I actually do that with all my custom roller coaster builds too.
I can swear that this opening was changed! The opening I remember is simpler and smaller. I had the original CD that I had bought a magazine and it came as a bonus.
This game is one of the few games where you can simply turn it on, do nothing and just watch and still be entertained. In fact, the most hours I spent on this game was by just watching. My all time #1 game.
By far, this is the only game that I've played that reflects my perspective in different stages of my life. I've played this since childhood, teens, adolescence, and would want to play it now as an adult too; each time that I played this game, my theme parks have never been designed the same way. Perhaps every time that I begin in Forest Frontiers, my perspective is different even though my goal remains the same (guests, park rating, park value). I know for sure that the objectives can be achieved, but with a varying degree on how I arrived there. As always, this game will always be there, not just in my mind and my heart but in my soul as well.
There was a simple way to make sure your roller coaster never had an "accident." Just make it so that the ride only has one total train and it will just zoom right through the station unblocked.
I was highly addicted to RCT when it first came out. And then other players created things like trainers and park and coaster recreations and uploaded them to sites like Danimation and New Element. Needless to say, none of that helped the addiction. But damn was it worth every second!
i like how everyone's freaking out about station brakes failures. did nobody consider installing track brakes 3 feet from the station? those don't fail
Except they do fail. Station brakes failure (just called Brake Failure in RCT2, presumably to clarify this) essentially turns off ALL of the normal brakes on the ride until it's fixed. Someone actually tested this and documented the results with pictures that can be found at imgur.com/a/L9nDm. You can clearly see brakes on some tracks, and the smoke that results from crashes is clearly visible at the back or behind each station, indicating that the trains crashed in the station. This is present on ALL tracks, even the ones with additional brakes. Conclusion: Station brakes failure does affect track brakes, tested, documented and proven. In RCT2 the addition of block brakes left this a non-issue. They're unaffected and as such prevent crashes just like they always do.
4:10 I knew I wasn't crazy, there did used to be an extra segment of guest sounds that got removed in the expansions and second game for whatever reason
I was somewhat decent and was like, I dunno, 5 years old? Sure looking back at it it should have been way easier but I still enjoyed almost all of it. Afraid I'm too old for the game now though.
when i ws small, i didnt know anything about wht to do in this game.. i usd to drop ppl in water, i would crash coasters and destroy prebuilt rides... i miss dis game
I don't get why so many people hate RCT3. It may be kinda glitchy, and the new props may suck, as well as a tiny music selection, but I think the CoasterCam is the best thing ever-it's what I always wanted. Plus, it makes great use of 3D with low system requirements (compared with other 3D games). I also love the ability to import music into the game easily-I no longer have to do any editing (and I put RCT2 music). Plus, sandbox mode is super fun.
Could you possibly tell me how you got this to record in full screen? Every time I try to do it, it shrinks it down to a 4th of a window for my viewers even though it's full screen on my screen. I'd really appreciate it! Also, great vid!

this has got to be the best game i have ever got into. original idea, a great idea as well, only thing i don't like is the creator is still pissed attari took his idea and made it better under the same name without him fully signing off all new elements in the game. but it wil l never hurt to go back to the basics, buy another copy, make the original owner happy, and hope he changes his mind and reopens this series.
When I was a kid I always thought the parks used in the menu, were all part of one giant theme park which you had to unlock. Boy, i was dissapointed when I found out the truth 😂
