I know tge Stones put out a lot of music out over the years, but they were never a better live band than they were in 1969!
@Bluzian74

That's quite the assertion. I'd have to argue that Australia 1973 and Europe 73 are off the charts.

@grifftrain

@@teleguy5699 ….. that’s the same thing I feel. The songs felt like they were on a tempo that was too fast. Listen to a song like jumping jack flash after 69-71….. Mick is singing so fast, it’s hard to even understand his words. They still rock. I still like them at any phase, actually. But just personally, I like the slower , bluesier ,takes on the songs around 69. The “under my thumb’ I’m free” combo at Altamont sounded so funky and bluesy. So I’m not putting down the Stones, just stating a preference on my part. The Stones are in my top 5 bands of all time
@calcuttarugs
@calcuttarugs 4 месяца назад
I like ‘69, too. Mick Taylor’s guitar parts are perfect here. Later he plays too much lead. By ‘73 he’s often playing lead throughout the song.

I was there and I was 16. I was a little delinquent. I had bought a ticket for my brother Harvey too. There was a square purple carpet with a white star in the center which someone came out and vacuumed. Midnight Rambler was my theme song. During the crescendo Mick whipped the floor with his scarf.

The Stones best live era in my opinion. Just love the rawness and discreet playing in which every instrument is heard. Some of the Stones future live music got to be overly erratic with too much going on. But still good of course. Ya Ya’s has made me so bias🙄 BTW…you can here Stu truly well and how his playing influenced their sound especially on Berry songs. And, Mick sings at his best in 69!!!

Both filmed being created for separate documentaries, both very long, both start slow and build, both with an iconic vocal bridge (whoo whooo... na, na, na) and if you listen close you'll hear Paul play on piano the same intro that Mick Taylor plays live. He was dressed nearly all in black - black belled mariachi pants, a long-sleeved tee-shirt (also black), a silk print scarf that hung to his hips, a red-white-and-blue Uncle Sam hat. On the shirt, on his chest, was the omega - like symbol of Leo, the sign of the king or president, a fixed fiery sign: proud, energetic, domineering, authoritative.' www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/the-rolling-stones-fall-1969-tour-72242/
