Most underrated guitarist in Rock N Roll: Mick Taylor. The Stones were stupid to lose him.

He wanted to go

Mick Taylor never WANTED to leave the band. He had no choice. Mick Taylor was/is a guitar genius. Up there with Hendrix, Clapton, Santana. No doubt about it. With all due respect to Ronnie Wood---on Mick Taylor's WORSE DAY, Ronnie couldn't hold a candle to him. (hell, Keef could barely keep up with him) Greatest mistake the Stones ever made was not doing WHATEVER IT TOOK, to keep him in the band. For starters, they could have PAID HIM. He was given no credits on several tunes- in other words, no residuals. Now, I don't know too many people that are wiling to get up every day and go to work, work hard, and DO AN EXCEPTIONAL JOB, and go home at the end of the day, and not get paid. In addition, his mates should have helped him with drug addiction and got him the help he needed to stay with the band. They did not. Like I said, the Stones were STUPID to lose him.

Brian Jones had ongeveer de zelfde problemen met Mick en Keith , het zijn een apart stel

@@bevo1776You don’t think the others, especially Keith, had enough to do with his own addiction to save others? About the credits if he was such a great writer how come he showed none of that after he left The Stones? He was a great guitarist but his ego was growing which could also be heard on their live performances and there were already two leaders of the band.

This is credited to Jagger/Richards/Mick Taylor. The only Stones song guitarist Mick Taylor received a writing credit for. One of the reasons Taylor left The Stones in 1974 was because his songwriting was not being credited, meaning he did not get royalties.

Absolutely correct! Some people think Taylor wanted to leave the band. He didn't want to. I don't know too many folks out there that show up to work, do their job, and DO IT WELL, and then go home at the end of the day without getting paid. Another reason Mick Taylor left was the drug addiction. The Stones (his mates) should have done EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to help him and keep him in the band. They didn't. The Rolling Stones WERE STUPID to lose Mick Taylor. PERIOD.

What songwriting skills has he showed since he left The Stones?

Think of the stones in the Mick Taylor years as a business, they recruited a business development manager who turned the band around - the stones would be nothing like they are without Mick Taylor full stop

Aside from "Ventilator Blues", Mick Taylor was never given writing credits for his slide guitar on "Sway".

One of his many slights by the Stones. Greatest mistake the Stones ever made was losing Mick Taylor.

And Moonlight Mile. Both which show Jagger could come up with good stuff without Richards.

Mick had to leave for his own good. He was 19 when he joined and it didn't take long before he was hooked on smack. The bad part is he left to join the Jack Bruce Band. Jack had his own problems with H so Mick didn't get away from it. Mick struggled with it for years.
