TheDragon803 Very funny and even though I'm a Rollin's fan (as I believe you are), I think Henry would get a chuckle. Be serious with life, but not so much you can't laugh at yourself once in a while. I do it daily. Maybe that says something about me. Anyway...
For all the Rollins haters, this guy has humility and intelligence, sings and writes with passion and is very observant of people and society, one of the true punk rockers of my generation, so fucking what if you don't agree with his attitudes and opinions, they're his and he doesn't pretend otherwise, if you don't like it get out there and voice your own opinions, keep free speech alive
+Jason Clarke (DesirableVinyl) most of the people who pretend to like Black flag and Henry don't care at all about what he is trying to expose/illuminate.......it doesn't concern them and there coolness.
Oh my source is myself, being exposed to Flag in a way I can guarantee none of you were. My mother's heavy duty brutal boyfriend walked into our lives when I was 10 knowing that band on a level comparable with the band members themselves, actually exceeding it, and I am not kidding.
to clear up confusion I am a 44 year old woman who uses my elderly father's email and user name because he lives with me, I take care of him and it is easier, and I can maintain anonymity.
QueensRock i disagree. He is well known planet wide. Speaks to rhe troops. Has been touring longer than you lived on earth. And I have never heard 1 person rate his talent, just shock or love. He has been on all the biggest podcasts, morning shows, late night talks shows... All the big ones like Letterman repeatedly. He Used to fuckin kill at big rock festivals that had nine inch nails and fukin Mettallica, Body Count! and the heaviest motherfuckers we have! This fuckin guy is a Legend and the Most Kind Intelligent and Humble example of bullyproof you may ever see.
Henry Rollins is quite possibly the greatest wordsmith of his time. Anybody can have a better life if they listen to his music and heed the advice hidden within it.
absofuckinglutely mate. the only man of words that i listen to very very carefully every time i listen to his songs or interviews. a man i definitely look up to
I walked green miles of jungle I walked through yellow miles of pain I crossed starvation's desert Watched dead river swell with rain The song of insects fill the air Nights in cities of despair Where killer's sons said , son beware And all the roads from here to there I sailed the sea of desolation Dropped my anchor there Plumbed the depths of isolation Walked its length and was not scared Went from end to end to end And then from there I went again The road that only this one knows Off to nowhere there I go Illumination comes so hard Makes me see but leaves its scars At times I wish that I didn't know what I know now Thought and thought until I lost my mind Looked and looked until I went near blind The path is fair but so unkind Illumination At night the highway's diesel roar Speaks to me and tells me more Than any book I've ever read Or anything you ever said With silent eyes inside I watch myself and worlds collide The seasons burn and crack my skin I stay outside and live within
@jeffrobodine239 I wanted to do one of my fitness videos to this song and I wanted to pick a few cool locations...maybe take video footage of a bunch of insects in the air and maybe footage during certain weather conditions...but never got around to making that happen yet...but I wanted to use this song
Best gig I ever went to was The Rollins Band. A small university gig, I was second row back and it felt like there were thousands behind me, but it was just a small crown. My mate fainted and Rollins dragged her onto the stage...when she woke up the first thing she said was 'I touched his sweaty belly'. Brilliant.
He actually can't sing at all. I mean literally. Even his screams are not in any discernible key. Does that mean his not a good frontman or a good "vocalist" ? No, it does not.
@@elmoblatch9787 he seems to just flatline on the same “note” (if you could call it a note) for nearly every song he does. But honestly it just adds to that feeling of raw, guttural power. Where he’s not worried about sounding good, he just wants to get shit out of his head. Pure therapy.
@@elmoblatch9787 thats why its punk rock,i personally think he's not a good singer, but goddamn he puts so much fucking emotions into his singing, this song hits hard
He doesn't sing, he talks and shouts. He doesn't have much range. Eddie Vedder, Chris Cornell, Scott Weiland were much better lead men and singers from this time period.
I have an appreciation for Rollins now. That I wish I had discovered sooner. The awakened Punk Rocker. Born of meager begginings. But capable and proven to achieving anything. Anything with real value.
EXACTLY It was hard My god to live in house with six..what we did Most of these bands mid 80's vandura van across COUNTRY aint easy Survival When i see young on the street i give We slept in places of abandonment Look now im in million dollar home in EXCLUSIVE Vancouver All alone in 4 bedrooms N more miserable with more..life is ironic aint it🇨🇦🖤🇨🇦 be safe
I never paid much attention to the lyrics of songs in contrast to the instruments being used. But when i discovered Henry Rollins and his band i couldnt do otherwise. He is truly the only one who provokes me go and hunt the meaning of each song's lyrics. Inspirational, Straight, Clean and Honest are his words and probably the only artist i ever gave that much respect. No matter how his voice sounds like, nor how the guitars rock, nowhere will you find so deep a meaning. Greetings from Greece.
Bro if you like Rollins lyrics you may not know this dude has spoken word paperbacks out. He doesn't get high so he would stay up on coffee for days until he got to that place and just write. Wow. H.R. Spoken Word.
I got to hang out with Henry in deep ellum in Dallas Texas back in 1996 I think it was. I walked up and he was sitting on the outside of the bomb factory. We had great conversation. We also talked about his song "black and white". I'll never forget that day. So much respect for that man. Wonder if he remembers that day. Thank you for being so cool to me Henry. I seen him 3 times in Dallas and every time was so intense.
There is no greater state for a man (or a woman) than ILLUMINATION! Fame, fortune, wealth... None of that can hold a candle to ILLUMINATION! Don't ask me how I know.
This clip is fantastic "Illumination comes so hard Makes me see but leaves its scars"...killer lyrics The ancient Hindus represented the mystery of the force that attracts and that which repels by the balance of the golden mountain, which they keep linked with the symbolic serpent of India, on one side the gods and on the other the demons
It seems a great part of the video was shot in Kolkata (Although I still love when the city was being called Calcutta), India. I must say they managed to get to the underbelly of Kolkata.... who would have thought to shoot a rock video at "Tripty's Bar and Restaurant" at bhawanipur, Kolkata ? Keep Rocking!!!!

+emilewicz14 the hability not only to perceive and understand, but to act upon life and the world we live in grows along time but the process is quite raw and thick...
I live in Central Florida outside Gainesville Florida I was coming out of a gas station and saw a jeep pull up to the pumps and there behold was Henry Rollins my idol I just stood there with my jaw gaped open and I 👋 he waves back im thinking what is he doing in my shit hole town I was shocked I couldn't walk up I felt like he probably was out here for personal space..
Well, it is so simple in 2019: wrote something in search panel and get it. In 2001 I kept my VHS recorder stady for months to get this song . And I did it. Henry, you doesn't even know, what your music meant for me in those times. When my dear father saw "Illumination" from my VHS record, he said: "Hrrr, pretty awesome! it is good, when a woodman or fireman, or sportsman have time to sign" :)
A D.C. Metro Native @17 I saw Minor Theat @the "old" 9:30 Club & went from "prom queen to punk' overnight Ian Mackaye worked@Y&T Records in Rockville, MD He helped me start my harD.C.ore Punk vinyl collection & I interviewed him for my college comm. class on what lead him to founding Dischord Records. Ian also introduced me to Henry Rollins band Black Flag. Rollins left D.C.for CA but came back on tour w/great shows! TY IAN & HENRY 4 the music & the message! Still Punk after all these years!
I love how Henry and the rest of the band especially beat the crap out of their instruments and get all that anger out in a positive way to give us this absolute masterpiece.
Fokin great stuff, excellent video. I used to listen to Rollins Band so many years ago. There is nothing quite like Rollins anymore. Actually there has never been nothing quite like THE ROLLINS BAND.
You're absolutely correct. I've sent him three separate e-mails and he responded to each. Heck, on one of them he even sent me the song lyrics I asked for (because the ones on all the lyrics sites are wrong). Others just talk the talk, but Henry walks the walk when it comes to being available to his fans.
I feel Henry Rollins is a great singer he writes good songs come from the heart all-in-all or the person plus his stand-up ain't bad he talks about true s*** that happen on tour in life and whatnot big fan
Great song. Been a fan of New Model Army for decades. Hadn't t listened to this fella in years. I live anyone sings and means every word. Justin Sullivan or Henry Rollins...it sin t a fashion or a trend...it s from the heart. It s the only way to make art.
