Up there with the Ford Blue Oval, the Chrysler give pointed star, and Chevrolet's Bow Tie. Added fact: a version of the Spirit of Ecstasy was also used in the logo for Total Experience Records, in the late 70s to 1986.

I had no idea the backstory had so many ties to reality. I figured the story would be something just crafted up by the marketing department so am quite surprised to learn otherwise.
