We’re putting 2 popular residential reel mowers to the test. Which one is best for you? It’s been an honor working with both of these companies. I am not paid for this review. Both owners are adamant about growing the hobby and have put that care into the mowers that they have created!
Specs on mowers you see in the video:
Rolux x25 model
- 25” cutting width
- Honda Engine
- Black
- 9 blade (*I compare this 9 blade to the RR 6 blade- if you choose 6 blade, it will save you some money, the 9 blade however is the most popular blade count)
- Grooved front roller
You can buy yours at myrolux.com and you can also see all of their other models and sizes
Reel Rollers Revolution 26 model (all options below come standard)
- 26” cutting width
- Honda engine
- 6 blade
- Grooved front roller
You can buy yours at reelrollers.com
At the time of this shooting, the prices and models were presented as what was currently available. Prices and selections are subject to change.

I have had the revolution 26 and I love it! But also very interested in the California trimmer catalyst.

Fantastic video mate, love getting your take on the two! The Rolux x25 is very similar to the Scott Bonnar 45 that we have here in Australia. Built in the 1960-1990s. There's a huge community restoring them to brand new, with ample new aftermarket parts available. Just thought i'd share that, so you could see the similarities.

competition in the market is healthy..I love that finally there are choices for the HOMEOWNER. I am kinda bias seeing as I have a rolux x20 and loving it. Rolux's customer service is outstanding as well. The handle bars took me about 2 mows in to get comfortable and I was delighted to find I could control it much better around my curves and elevations. The clutch lever is quite nice as well as I can feather it quite well..it reminds me of riding a bicycle in my younger days.

Love that there are more choices now and will be in the future for sure! Rolux customer service is awesome. John, Stu, Guy, Bruce, all great people and blessed to know them.

Thanks for the fair review of both. Rolux is the winner for me. I actually like the spin grind and thicker blade design for the average yard. And with the low cut bed knife option, you can get down to 2mm if you should ever want too. Less plastic is a plus for me also. But I do think Masport builds good products and would not be a bad choice if that’s what someone likes. Both are great options compare to the other choices that have been available in the past.

This is just a big win for us home enthusiasts who want a great reel mower that’s easy to use and maintain. Thanks for the video

Waiting on my Rolux 20” Honda 9 blade with the grooved roller. Should be here Monday or Tuesday I’m hoping. I’ve been using a Fiskars reel push mower as this year is my first year into reel mowing and I’m loving it.

That’s like going from a tricycle to a car. You’ll probably be smiling on the first cut with a powered reel mower!

Great video! How about the cut quality with the nine blade versus the six blade at similar heights? Was hoping to see that a little bit.
@TheLawnDad

Tough to compare a 6 and a 9 for fairness sake to both companies. That also depends on HOC as well. RR has a 10 blade coming out soon- I would then feel comfortable getting down to cut quality in both since it would be apples to apples! 9 is better for maintaining around .5-.75”. 6 blade is better for .6”+. In that .6-.75” range you wouldn’t be able to tell difference between these 2 mowers cut quality. Both are stellar!

Ok thanks that’s what I was hoping! Perfect timing with this video as I’m deciding between these two for next year. Appreciate the informative videos.

Would it be possible to do a quick video/short of spinning the reel on the Rev26? I just got mine and have seen some comments from a lot of folks saying the reel should barely be making contact with the bedknife but mine seems to be grinding on it a bit. I thought this was something that RR would have adjusted before shipping it out so I just wanted to make sure. Would like to get the most longevity out of it as possible.

As much as I love you posting a comparison video, I was hoping for a bit more insight as to which mower or features you preferred. I know they are both great, though. I ended up ordering a RR Rev26 just yesterday so I'm hoping for the best! My first reel so not much I'll be able to compare it to other than my trusty Honda rotary.

Can’t go wrong with either 💪🏻. Details I covered are reasons why I’d buy either one. Any more in depth would just simply be a preference. Thanks for the feedback!! Enjoy the r26- I know you will!

Great video!! Missed talking about the rear rollers both being vulcanized rubber - any differences though?

Both the same exact specs, except of course one is 1” wider than the other! Both split and both are almost exact same feel/thickness of rubber, etc

Great comparison between the two. How does the Rolux compare to cutting tight edges? I have a 3” gap on my sloped front I’m struggling with the Rev. It’s a beast. Both seem like great reels. Backslapping is so simple for each in comparison to other models
@TheLawnDad
@TheLawnDad 6 дней назад
Have you tried rotary scissors on sections missed? Unfortunately both will have some missed spots in tight areas since the edge of the reel is offset from the frame almost identically

@@TheLawnDad yeah that what I use. I was just curious if both were similar in that department. I’ve thought about getting a 20” Rolux and selling my P20. The sickness continues

Both great equipment and amazing prices…. Rolux needs to go sealed ball bearings…. Reel Rollers needs to add a seal to the chain cover to prevent grass entering the chain area….

Thanks for the feedback! We are actually part American owned (by our team) and we employ Americans to assemble our products. We employ a team of Americans to do our administration and are growing the team and soon our American staff will be bigger than our SA staff. American employment is what we are aiming for, because it isn’t only about ownership.

@@stuartwilliams8615 I get that but 85% of the cost of the mower is going to go back to South Africa. While they pay a few dozen Americans 20 bucks an hour. No thanks

RR Revolution isn't built here, it's being sent from over seas, that's why they 1st shipments were delayed. They assemble here just like Rolux.

@1975oldschool , you're leaving out the country of origin for the Revolution 26, the parent company is Masport, based out of New Zealand.
@jamesmolesson9991
@jamesmolesson9991 2 дня назад
@user-er7gx5sm6g , to be fair, the Rev 26 is a Masport product based out of New Zealand. Says so right on Reel Rollers website. Neither are "American Made", but, where is your bottom dollar going??
