Just want to say thanks nurse patty I passed my written and clinical skills today in florida in Pinellas park at a Prometric testing site thanks to you and all your helpful videos I studied them so much I couldn’t have done it without you I was a certified cna before and let my licenses collapse I can officially say as of 2/22/23 I’m officially a certified cna thanks 💕

You’re amazing Nurse Patty. Here in NY for Prometric, they empathize Raising the bed for proper body mechanics. Obviously wash hands but no gloves for this step. A privacy blanket. Check the ID. Support at ankle or elbow. Ask the Patient if they give consent and if they have any pain during procedure. Then closing steps. Lower bed. Safety check. Remove privacy blanket. Open privacy curtain. Give call light. And ask patient if they need anything else. Good Luck to all the CNAs. It’s an emotional roller coaster. God bless everyone.

Hi. I took my first clinical state exam. I failed this one and counting respirations and indirect care yesterday. I passed handwashing, dressing a resident with weak right arm. I did not have schooling for cna. I'm a hospitality aide who works on the floor with cnas. A cna gave me light training with the skills check list but it's quite a few skills she didn't train me on because she said our building doesn't allow the cnato do certain skills because the lens or rns does it. Besides indirect care I messed up some where but the othertwo I failed I never had training on. I'm assigned a group of residents every day and work bye myself unless I need Hoyer's it takes two people. I work as a cna but I'm hospitality aide only getting hospitality pay doing skills of a cna. I have a cna app I study but my building never had or will pay for cna classes for. But the administrator paid for my clinical exam. I need extensive hands on training while I work on the floor. I can't afford cna school and can't afford to miss work. I have my written on the September 18 at 9 am sunday. Help I need to pass clinical got and email to reschedule the clinical to try again at cost of course running out of money I saved up. Please help me super stressed.

Hey ! I take my test in NY any day.. I'm waiting for my email, I took my 125 class July 29 I finished- we didn't go over the skills too much and all my skills on my list are same as the one you use only difference is we need to make a mitt (idk why your way is much better) technically only one skill says "made mitt" but anyway.. I wanted to ask you if possible can you make a "new" input and output video pretttty please... I got taught we can't use the alcohol pad for inside of the closing part because it can contaminate the closing and the whole thing needs be replaced (silly I think) but your so amazing and gave me courage to mail in my stuff to take the board!! Thank you patty!! Oh and idk why but also when we pivot we put our foot between their feet, not in front. My teacher who also an RN is just a bit older and down to hand washing she only showed us ONce in 4 weeks ...learned more on my extern now on your channel. So thank you very much for making this channel.. You're helping more people than u realize ! My ultimate goal is to become an rn while I work as a cna, so thank thank thank you for these videos you're an angel on earth for us new cna's! New Yorkers- we CaN use these techniques i go along my checklist while I watch the videos! Thanks again (please try to make and input and output video) please!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The hip is bent at a 90 degree angle during the first exercise (looks like climbing stairs) as the knee is bent. This one action works both the hip and knee. Flexion/extension is the only exercise indicated on the care plan, so this is the only exercise we can do for this patient. Thank you and best of luck!

Hi, I'm confused, in the booklet I got it showed that there should be 6 exercises done on the leg . Which is flex and extend abduction and adduction , massaging the leg , flexing of the knee and flexing of the ankle and then rotating of the ankle. Will I be marked in correctly if I do all these exercises , since it was what I was taught in my CNA class . Please help .
@4yourcna
@4yourcna 7 лет назад
There are many exercises that can be done on all joints, but your care plan will tell you which specific exercises should be done for THIS patient. Remember, every patient is an individual with individual needs so the nurse will develop a care plan that tells you exactly what should be done with each patient; no two care plans will be exactly alike because no two people are alike. As an assistant (which is what CNA stands for), you will only follow the nurse's instructions (via the care plan). Since the care plan for the test indicates that only 1 exercise is to be done (flexion/extension) on the hip/knee and on the ankle, that is all you should do. That is what this patient requires. You must follow the care plan during the exam (and in clinical life). Doing otherwise shows that you do not understand your role as a CNA and can cause you to fail (because you could hurt the patient by not following the care plan). Hope this helps!
@likeitis-jv1zx

do you have to wash your before and after the skill or just use sanitizer?
@4yourcna
@4yourcna 7 лет назад
You are required to physically wash your hands at the beginning and end of the first skill. You will be graded on these two handwashings. From then, you will be instructed to simulate handwashing for the rest of the skills. Simulation means to say, "I have clean hands" or "I would wash my hands now" or "Washing hands" at the points where you would normally wash your hands at the beginning and end of each skill. Hope this helps!
@frazhierlagora983
@frazhierlagora983 5 лет назад
Hello! One question. Why is there no 'around' exercise? Or rotation?
@4yourcna
@4yourcna 5 лет назад
Because for the exam you will receive a care plan. You MUST follow that care plan exactly (it is the same care plan shown in the beginning of this video). Since this care plan only says to do flexion/extension and abduction/adduction, that is what must be done for the exam - no more, no less. Since rotation is not on the care plan, it is not performed on this patient. That does not mean that it won't EVER be performed because each patient is different and will require a different level of care, so you will follow the care plan for THAT patient at that time. Hope this helps!

@johnyamson8640
@johnyamson8640 6 лет назад
Question? Should I wash my hand every time i do my task?
@4yourcna
@4yourcna 6 лет назад
Yes! You are required to wash your hands after you knock, identify your patient by name, introduce yourself, describe your skill and get permission (this cleans your hands for the PATIENT). Then you must wash your hands after the closing, prior to leaving the patient environment (this cleans your hands for YOU). After your first skill, the evaluator may tell you that you can simulate handwashing for the remainder of the skills, but don't simulate until you are told to! Simulate just means tell the evaluator when you would wash your hands. Best of luck!

The Prometric checklist says (dorsiflexion/plantar flexion) towards the head and then point down towards the mattress. Does it matter which order you do this exercise on the ankle? I'm nervous because my test is tomorrow morning.
@4yourcna
@4yourcna 7 лет назад
+GarbageCanster It does not matter which order you do the exercises, just as long as you perform the exercises that the care plan indicates, on the correct side for the specified number of repititions. Best of luck on your test!

Why was the USA method not used on the hip or ankle? Up/down(flexion/extension), side to side (adduction/abduction), and around (rotation). Do they not need to be performed anymore? I'm taking the test on Thursday and I'm quite nervous.
@4yourcna
@4yourcna 7 лет назад
The care plan for this skill (displayed at the beginning of the video) states that the patient needs flexion/extension of the hip and knee and flexion/extension of the ankle. The care plan does not indicate that the patient needs abduction/adduction or rotation, so we cannot do those exercises for the exam, since the care plan doesn't call for them. Always follow the care plan EXACTLY. Although our old videos showed all versions of the exercises, this video only shows the exercises that are reflected on the testing scenario care plan, to more closely reflect the testing environment. Remember, in a clinical setting, any of the exercises may be ordered on the care plan - they are based on each individual patient's need. Thank you for the comment!

In the UK CNA and HCA roles are classed as UNSKILLED and are paid very minimum wage despite dbs, first aid training and nursing qualifications.... why do they call the tasks to be completed " SKILL"

The hip is missing.
@4yourcna

The hip is flexed during the first exercise. This exercise bends both the knee and the hip at 90 degrees in one motion. Thank you for your comment!

You forgot the hip rom exercise.You only did knee and ankle

The hip and knee are flexed at the same time. When you bend the knee towards the chest, the hip flexes as well (so, it's a 2 for 1 exercise). You can see this at the 1:15 time stamp. Our skills Study Guide has more information on this in the Range of Motion lesson. Thank you for your comment!

I notice that she never raise the bed to working height
@4yourcna

Good observation. For Prometric testing, you don't have to raise the bed to a comfortable working height - it is not a graded checkpoint which is why I don't show it. But I have created a lesson entirely devoted to this topic on courses.4YourCNA.com. The course is free and very helpful - check it out! :-)
