I talked to Roman Gabriel on the phone awhile back when he was a analyst with the Carolina Panthers Radio Network. I left a message and he called me back, his a legend of his words!! I dont know any legend that would call just about anybody Roman was indeed the first for me im a fan for life!!

Long ago but not forgotten. I absolutely loved the Rams before Georgia moved them to St Louis. Roman Gabriel Jr was the best of the Los Angeles Rams of his era and still holds several QB records for the team. Absolute legend and QB Hall of Famer. Great college career as well. AFL no 1 and NFL no 2 draft pick. Gunslinger of an arm, he would a highlight reel if he played in today's media market. Good to see his highlights now, even if a bit late.

Still Remember listening to Dick Enberg on the radio as a teen." Many times I I heard him say: Gabriel to Snow touchdown! Oh my! Late 60s early 70s. Fun team to watch indeed.

Great quarterback. Loved watching him break tackles while in the pocket and still getting the throw off. Awesome player.

My son’s middle name is Gabriel because of Roman. I loved him when I was a little girl and because of him I watched football as much as I could. I too had his poster on my wall and a framed picture by my bed. I wrote to him and he sent a handwritten note which I treasure. I am angered every year when Hall of Fame time comes. I live in Ohio and would always think this is the year I would go see him be inducted. I love you Roman… then, now and always.

That was an AWESOME REPLY! I took my Son to Canton in 2001 Youngblood and Slater along with Marv Levy, Lynn Swann, Mike Munchek, Ron Yary and Nick Bounacotti! Youngblood and Dryer signed my Son's Ram helmet! I'm from Los Angeles and Dad took me to my first Ram Niners game in 1969! I really enjoyed reading your post!

@@EricUnderwood-v2xthank you, Eric! I really enjoyed reading your post. You were very lucky to have lived in LA and seen the Rams with Roman. I graduated in 1979, and a guy that graduated in 1978 from my school gave his son the first name Roman. I hope Roman Gabriel realized how many lives he touched

@@aceanne6693 My pleasure! That was my first of many Ram games...Roman had an off day he fumbled 4 times and recovered all 4 and made it into the Guinness Book of world records! LoL. He really had a gun of an arm and tuff as they come! I seen him mow Ray Nitchsce down ! It was so much fun growing up in Downey when I did! Right in the middle of Downtown Los Angeles and Disneyland! That's where Downey is. My Dad worked for the Los Angeles Times and we got complimentary tickets for the Pro Bowls in Los Angeles there's so much to do,LA has mountains too! The San Gabriel's and of course The beaches. I'm sure you had a crush on Roman he was such a big handsome Man! Merlin Olsen one of my favorites lived across the street from my Jr High school in Downey. Oh and i got to wave to Richard and Karen Carpenter all the time growing up...they always drove by the house going to visit someone in my neighborhood! Roman Gabriel really should be in the Hall of Fame...of you ever visit Southern California make sure to visit Laguna Beach and enjoy our beaches( just get there before 9 am to park! Peace and 💕 Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school California

@@EricUnderwood-v2xHi Eric! I remember that stat and it being a world record… I defended him about it… yes, it was on off day! Your memories are quite interesting. Your Dad worked at The Times? That is interesting in itself! Good for you to get to go to games and see so many of the greats. I detested the 49’ers and the Vikings because of the rivalries with my Rams. The Carpenters with the waving made me smile. If you tell me you had a connection with Lucy and Ricky then I will really be impressed! Btw, how close is Brentwood to Downey? I followed that trial daily! lol I recently found the opening segment to Rowan and Martin’s Laugh In with Roman that I had only seen once, the nite it aired, and it was so fun. The sketch with Ruth Buzzi I had seen thru the years and that was MY fantasy Ruth!! lol I live 3 hours from Canton, want Roman inducted but sad it didn’t happen sooner… my hero deserved it. It’s fun sharing memories with someone my age who appreciates the old days and is from a different part of the country. Signed, 1979 graduate from somewhere in Ohio!!

RIP Roman Gabriel a very good player who I remember playing when I was a young child. I remember him as the first of the big quaterbacks standing at 6-4 or 6-5 which was unheard of for a qb before him, but would eventually become the norm.

Not only was Gage underrated, he is the all time TD leader f a team that led the change to the passing game. As a teammate, and a spokesmen for the NFL off the field - there are none better. He was the "gentile giant," the "teddy bear," and on game day he was ready to take on any linebacker...Butkus, Nitschke - bring them on. The Rams games with the 49ers are still thrilling to watch matching Gabe with John Brodie. Reach into the clouds if you want to meet Roman someday. RIP.

I had the privilege of meeting him around 1969 and he signed an NC STATE hat for me that I still have to this day. And I agree, he should be in the HALL OF FAME, no doubt. Wish they still had those all white with blue stripes uniforms.

One of my all time favorites ! When I was growing up I had a poster of him on my wall, The Colts great Middle Linebacker Mike Curtis draped over his left shoulder, Gabriel's one bar facemask and helmet knocked askew...and of course Gabriel shook Curtis off and chucked it 40 yards downfield for a TD ! He was the ORIGINAL prototype for today's NFL QB. 6' 5", 240 lbs. ( in an era where there were maybe 3 300 lb. linemen in the league, "BIG" Middle Linebackers were 200 - 215 and DB's ( "Spider" Lockhart comes to mind ) were 160 - 170 lbs. He had a CANNON of an arm...and could run when he was young ! And he was TOUGH ! I was a HUGE Rams fan when he was there ( big George Allen fan too ) I remember one Christmas my parents got me a Rams vs Cowboys Electric Football game AND a kids Rams uniform..best Christmas EVER ! Don't know why He's not in the HOF ???

Keith I had his poster on my wall too, was only 14 when he was MVP in 69 I believe? Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones too. Not happy when they traded him to Eagles. Ram posters had to go in favor of Charlie's Angels, Farah Fawcett and Cheryl Ladd! Damn we're getting old! LOL

@@keithsowder4308 Was in an old 10 lane Bowling alley in Whittier called Hadley Bowl. Looked at the guy next to me and its was Jack Pardee. He was so kind he gave me and my buddy signed photographs of himself. Interesting he and I almost died of same disease, malignant melanoma. Great player that went with Gabriel to the Ramskins as you well know. Think they lost too Miami in SB?
@keithsowder4308
@keithsowder4308 Год назад
@@jimshaffer1780 Actually Gabe didn't go to Washington with George Allen, Pardee and a ton of others. Allen tried to trade for him but didn't have any draft picks left. True story...Allen did not value draft picks and would trade them as quickly as he could. He got so carried away one year in Washington he was fined by the league by trading the SAME draft pick to 2 different teams, LOL. Congrats on beating Cancer ! I never got to meet Pardee, but I have never heard anything but good things about the guy. Little known Jack Pardee fact....his HS was so small they played in a "6 man league "and yes , the "Ramskins lost to Miami in the infamous Garo Yepremian "Pass attempt game 14 -7. Ramskin's only score was Burgess Owens return for a TD of Yepremian's hilarious attempt at passing !
