Roman Ildonzo Gabriel Jr. was an American professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the NC State Wolfpack, twice earning first-team All-American honors. Gabriel was the second overall pick in the 1962 NFL draft and played for the Los Angeles Rams for 11 seasons then five years for the Philadelphia Eagles. He was notable for being the first NFL quarterback of Filipino-American descent, as well as winning the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 1969. Roman died April 20, 2024 at the age of 83 years.

For those of you who might not know, Roman Gabriel was a great man and great player. He was NFL MVP in 1969. He was the first really big NFL quarterback, I ever seen. He is the prototype of today's NFL quarterback. I'm 66 years old. So, I remember him well. He never got a ring, but still a very good player. I remember watching him as a kid. He just seemed like a really real and great guy. May he rest in peace. I didn't know that he had also been drafted by the Oakland raiders. He would have been perfect for Al Davis and the raiders at that time. Not a Hall of famer, but, borderline Hall of famer. But, a true Hall of Fame person. Add one tough man.

was fortunate to have been named Roman due to Roman Gabriel. 1966. He was quite the celeb back then. My parents got an autographed pic but it was misplaced when I was young. My wife and I named our son Roman Jr. rip
