Roman Reigns Has Some STINGING Words For CM Punk 

Fact is, nobody has be able to been a needle mover for WWE for the past 20yrs. Anyone that got a hint of momentum organically was/is shut down.

It took Roman a decade to do a half way acceptable promo with a room full of writers... punk was over long before WWE.. he didn't have a wrestler dad and wasn't spoon fed at the performance center... he paid his dues working for scum bag promoters in front of nobody... Roman has been protected and pushed for years... I'd rather watch Bob Backlund wrestle to be honest. Roman will NEVER get the pop that punk got Friday... not even close, not ever, not even giving away free beer.

Easy coming from a guy who's lineage got him a round trip, all expenses paid trip straight into the WWE.

Despite being opposed by management, Punk became one of the top 3 most popular active wrestlers of the last decade and a top merchandise seller in WWE. Despite Vince’s goofy comedy, Jon Moxley/Dean Ambrose was one of the company’s top stars from 2014-2019. Despite Vince giving Roman an unprecedented push for 6 years and feeding him legends, titles and Wrestlemania main events, Roman failed to get over as the company’s top babyface. It took leukemia recovery (and the goodwill from that didn’t last long), and finally turning heel for fans to even start coming around on him. That wasn’t all Roman’s fault, it was mostly Vince’s fault, but the comparisons are still striking.

The difference between Punk and Roman and the people Roman named is that WWE dragged ass on Punk as much as possible while it threw every bit of support behind everyone else, usually to the detriment of guys who got over organically. They've been cramming Roman down everyone's throats for years now and they've barely got anything to show for it.

I’m not even a big CM Punk fan but WWE didn’t put half the effort into Punk as they have for Reigns. They held down any and all guys gaining momentum just to boost up Reigns, including the Ambrose and Rollins.

But during Roman's "Reign" from 2014 to the present the WWE has been on a steady decline and they now have the lowest viewership ratings ever.

Roman Reigns is nobody to talk about who’s over and who isn’t. Because he spent a better part of 7 years trying to get HIMSELF over. The Rock, NO ONE and I mean no one is on his level. He was a megastar. John Cena? He helped chase away MILLIONS of viewers. He was the chief complaint from the majority of disgruntled fans, millions of which who don’t watch WWE anymore. Punk was more popular than him, but WWE chose to sabotage him rather than embrace it.

I disagree about Punk not being a needle mover like Cena though. Punk got a whole stadium sold out. Did Cena ever do that? No. And also Cena drove away a lot of fans away from the product not bring any.

Not a Punk fan at all but Triple H beating him in the middle of his wave killed his momentum. Goes to show when Triple H is personally involved in an angle, he can't be trusted. He's no Rock or Cena but WWE didn't do right by Punk. He should've won that match without question.

Roman is right when he says that CM Punk was Not as big as the Rock or John Cena. But Punk surpassed Cena's merchandise sales in 2011/2012 and Punk is definetely bigger than Reigns himself as a draw...! And Reigns was always protected by Vince! Even when the people booed him out of the building. Punk never got that level of protection. So it's not cool to talk like this about CM Punk...!

Whilst Roman isn’t necessarily wrong about Punk being bigger than The Rock, to say he wasn’t a needle mover is just straight up delusional. Plus, Roman himself isn’t bigger than The Rock, and he isn’t even the needle mover that Punk is, so... yea. I like Roman, but what he said was ignorant.

I mean Roman isn't wrong in saying Punk was never as over as Rock or Cena. Besides Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan and maybe The Undertaker. Nobody else is even close. With that said, Punk at his peak is still more over than Roman will ever be.

My thing with roman reigns is look at his career, came in with the sheild and when they broke up what did roman do? Seth rollins became the architect, dean Ambrose became the lunatic but roman basically hijacked the sheild gimmick, he came out to the same shield them, wore the same sheild gear, had the same entrance through the crowd like the shield, he was the one man shield and no one liked him, and let's be completely honest with ourselves if the pandemic never happens we have the same roman reigns we had back then at wm36 we get Roman vs goldberg and the way Roman talked about missionary position he would be the living proof of that, cm punk was the example of someone who got himself over in spite of the company, Roman couldn't get over despite having the companys Full support, they fed him, cena twice,Edge, undertaker at manina( as the damn main event),multiple wrestle manina main events(whether he had the title or not),braun stroman, daniel bryan, brock lesnar ( who they let hold the universal title hostage just for roman to win it), thriple h, gave him 100 sheild reunions ( and even then the crowd only liked seth and dean not roman ), and their trying to feed him rock if he comes back, if roman reigns and the usos weren't the rocks cousin theyd have been cut along time ago, so all of Roman's success can honestly be tied to the rock, keep this in mind, mickie James got let go but nia jax still has a job, shayna bayzler is a goof, but tamina is still here, alister black couldn't get tv time but the usos rack up DUI's and come back to the tag team titles and the number one story line I WONDER WHY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

The fact is that CM Punk was over despite WWE. If the company have put the same effort on him as for Cena (and reigns) then the comparison would be fair

The funny thing is, Cena himself made similar comments back before he got into Hollywood, when he was full-time for WWE, where he did some worked/shoot comments about the Rock not being around full-time, and that he was, etc.

He's the most compelling character on TV and moved more T-shirts than anybody since Steve Austin. WWE brags about not needing wrestling to turn money, as they're a corporate powerhouse with billion-dollar distribution deals, then once they dislike someone "b-b-but ratings!" They don't give a FUCK when "their guys" pull low numbers. Only when it's the fan-favorites who weren't preordained for that spot.

If you remember at that time John Cena was not really liked by fans too much and remember CM Punk without selling him and merchandise sells up until he turned heel so he was kind of a little bit white-hot than Cena at that time

Ratings were at least double during the time Punk was WWE Champion than now with Reigns as Universal Champion. Now is that entirely Reigns’ fault; no, because a lot of it has to do with how he was booked prior to his heel turn and WWE trying to avoid pushing anybody to the level of being mainstream because WWE would be too afraid they would leave. Also I do wonder with his comments if Roman is still a little bitter at Punk for the comments Punk made in the podcast about ‘Make Roman Reigns look strong’ and how Roman wasn’t Punk’s first choice as the third member of The Shield.

I really don't thinks Reigns' comments reflect his real opinions. He's trying to blur the lines between his wrestling persona and real life. And he might have WWE in his ear regarding interview red flags. It's a worked shoot in-character. That being said, some of his comments are true regarding Punk but who is he to criticize and judge? The difference is: Cena had to get over on his own without company support, but once he _did_ get over, they got fully behind him and never stopped, even when people were tired of him. Roman was over as a member of The Shield, but once they broke up and WWE got fully behind him for a single push, the fans rejected him, but that never stopped them from pushing him anyway. Punk got himself over without the company, but the company REFUSED to get behind him until the fans forced them to, and even then they half-assed and botched it and never treated him like they did Cena and Roman. So Roman's kind of a fucking hypocrite isn't he? But then, discussing the actions of the company is taboo in WWE. Everything is _supposedly_ on the performers, which is laughable because EVERYONE knows that WWE is micromanaged to a ridiculous degree by Vince, so EVERYTHING is on HIM.

I know a lot of people give Cena shit for being shoved into a main-event position, but Cena managed to get himself over before he was pushed to the stars, like him or hate him. Roman didn't even accomplish that, and that's why a lot of people pushed back against him. He didn't get himself over, he wasn't allowed to grow organically, he has always been in the main event because Vince wants him there. You can't even compare him to people like Bryan or Punk, who got over despite the company trying to keep them beneath their main eventers. I'm not saying Roman doesn't have it in him, because lately he's been really entertaining, but I can't help but wonder if he would've been able to stay afloat after the Shield separated if he was left to his own efforts.

Roman, Cena, and the Rock were chosen, they were pushed by the company, and out of the 3, only the Rock actually got over. CMPunk got over because the fans (D Bryan too) and the company on several occasions tried to shut down his push, and almost a decade after leaving the company the fans still chant his name for no reason. If Punk or any of those actual fan favorites had the company behind them every step of the way pushing them to the moon, there would be no John Cena or Roman Reigns. Believe that!

Arguing that your opponent left the company to pursue other ventures because they don't care about the fans or the business or the company is a terrible argument, no matter who argues it, CM Punk, John Cena, whoever. Wrestling has become too much of a niche product for any one wrestler to be a needle mover, honestly. We can combine the viewing numbers for Raw, Smackdown, NXT, Dynamite and Rampage for a week and they are comparable to a Raw twenty years ago. It is what it is.

I think the point Roman is trying to make isn’t that he is a needle mover, I think Roman is saying he knows that no one‘s moving the needle right now so he doesn’t have a problem with the part-time guys where CM punk had a problem with part-time guys but those part-time guys do equal more viewers and more ticket sales. Which I think is really sad that Vince McMahon has Had 20 years to make dozens of stars and he hasn’t. Even in the early 90s, 1992 when 1993 when Monday night raw was just getting started and WCW Saturday night was the flag ship show for WCW, it would’ve been unheard of to bring a star back from the 60s or 70s to work with A Sting or a Bret Hart or Undetaker or Vader.

After he left, WWE & Vince became so gun shy about creating stars because they worry about them leaving to go do other things after they put so much time and effort into them.
