At 0:12 . . . I found a bracelet or necklace like that once. I'm a dumpster-diver for recyclables. I saved it because I knew this was an exceptional thing. I have no idea what happened to it. It disappeared or something. I don't always keep track of things. I'm homeless. There are times when things disappear from my cart . . . oh well. Even backpacks, shoulder bags, other things disappear . . . oh well. But I knew that the thing was special because they (the stones) were evenly matched and secure in the jewelry artistry/craftsmanship. Oh well.

When I was in South Africa in the late '70's, I was shocked to learn how common diamonds are. If DeBeers didn't control how many were released each year, their value would fall like crazy. That's why I chose a South Sea baroque pearl for my engagement ring. I wanted "unique" not ho hum-same as everybody else engagement ring. And my ring is definitely a conversation starter..noticed much more than a diamond ring that might have been a cz..not my pearl🙄

Good for you Sharon. Diamonds are a scam and colored stones/pearls are much prettier in my opinion. I’m glad to see more women opting for uniqueness over hunks of carbon. I’m sure your ring is beautiful.

Thank you, Justin. I love the idea of an organic gem. Interesting too, that Princess Eugenie and her fiance chose a Hessonite Garnet for her engagement ring. (It is lovely and almost the same color as her hair too!)

In regards to diamonds, they are fairly common but gemstone quality is quite rare. Debeers only controls 40% of the market, so I don't really think it is their fault for the high prices but rather their marketing that they've done over the years has increased the value of diamonds so much. While I like diamonds for their physical properties I do prefer colored gems, which is a good thing as my favorite diamond color is cognac (a deep orange-brown). These diamonds are significantly less than the white ones and in my opinion much more beautiful. However ruby is a better investment than diamonds, I don't know anyone who has lost money on a good ruby. Especially those who take extra care to ensure they buy exactly what they want for the right price

Diamonds are precious because of the control in the supply imposed by the diamond cartel. Emeralds, rubies tanzanites and sapphires the truly precious gems based on supply. Diamonds are overrated. Rubies and emeralds are forever.

Chatham lab grown ruby. Same chemical composition (corundum), clearer (better brilliance), no mass destruction of acres to get a tiny stone, and almost 1/2 the cost. Gems for the scientifically literate.

Now I have been collecting excellent pigeon blood rubies of various carats and Burmese, Mozambique or Africa for some years and they are pure pigeon blood and I will take about 30 to 40 pieces. and believe me I never imagined finding these specimens why. there are people who say they have pigeon blood rubies when they have a pink tone these are not legitimate pigeon blood

netdog713 Same. I almost never wear red and I have zero red decor in my home (I like blues and greens mostly) but ruby is also my birthstone so I have a few rings (synthetic, of course).

Diamonds are rip offs.. Ruby's, Sapphires and Emeralds are much more rarer. But South Africa has used advertising and propaganda to convince the public that diamonds are better and rare...

It’s de Beers which has spread the diamond propaganda, not South Africa. De Beers has single handedly locked down the diamond market for the last century.

Natural color red, violet, orange, purple, green, blue and pink diamonds are much much much rarer than rubies, sapphires and emeralds coz you can't even find these natural color diamonds at your local jewelry stores,
