That line about the American Express Travelers Checks was an homage to the wonderful actor, Karl Malden, Michael Douglas's former co-star in the show that gave Michael his start, "The Streets of San Francisco". Karl was a spokesperson for Amex Travelers Checks for years. It got a lot of laughs when this first came out; today almost no one under the age of 40 would get the reference.

1. "War of the Roses" with Kathleen, Danny, and Michael is an awesome film, but it's much darker. 2. Alligators are fresh water and have square shaped snouts while crocodiles are salt water and have round snouts. 3. My favorite character is Juan the bellmaker. 4. Snake doesn't really have a taste so to speak. It tastes mostly what you put on it. 5. Nothing wrong with enjoying a fun movie.

Yes, she did play Chandler's dad! She's not a smoker, she's just always had a sultry voice. I worked on this movie, pure dumb luck. It was filmed in México, and I went to the Hotel Xalapa to party at the bar. When I went to use the head, there was Michael Douglas taking a leak. Surprised he was so short, and he was surprised that I spoke English (I'm half-and-half Mexican/American). The assistant producer was looking for gophers, to fetch stuff, get coffee, and in my case I could also translate (the fancy term is "production assistant", but basically a general peon). I had a big crush on Kathleen Turner, never watched her in the soaps but I've followed her movie career, it was her and Diane Lane. 😁 When I saw her in "Body Heat" I almost melted. "Joan Wilder" is a made-up name for this movie. So I know I've never read any of her books, and neither has anybody else... 😁 The scene where her sister gets knocked out and kidnapped is the malecón, the harbor drive in the port of Veracruz. The castle is San Juán de Ulúa, the old Spanish fort. Well, some of it is... Mostly what we have in México is caymán, rather than alligators. Yes, you pronounced Cartagena just fine, but of course Cartagena is in Colombia, which is where this movie is set. The locations and most of the local actors and the party at the town square are all Mexican however. It's a beautiful and very varied country. As for "Quan-TEE-co", I don't know where you're getting that from. Quantico Virginia was not named through Spanish influence. "American Express...?" Karl Malden, who played his senior partner in the TV show "The Streets of San Francisco", used to do commercials for American Express traveler's checks. Moisture doesn't make a rock face any softer. It does however make them slippery. I know, I've climbed plenty of rocks in the Marine Corps. "... I went to college..." I've used that line a lot since then... that, and "very tasty..." 😁 No snake doesn't taste like chicken. It tastes like snake. Still very good, though. You forgot to show his new boots... guess where the leather came from... 😎 You're right, you'll never see a sailboat being towed with the mast and rigging stepped, much less with sails hoisted. Pure Hollywood. I don't know how they arranged this scene in New York, I worked only in México. So, are you gonna watch the sequel, "The Jewel of the Nile"? Not as good maybe, but still fun. Another great one with Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito is "The War of the Roses", but that one goes in a totally different direction. Up to you. Or at least watch "Body Heat", it's a good thriller, she costars with William Hurt, Ted Danson, and Richard Crenna from "First Blood". So I'd say my favorite adventure scene is the very begging when they first meet and deal with both the torrential downpour in the rain forest and end up in the crashed drug plane, a lot of hilarious moments... "Oh, man, the Doobie Brothers broke up!" "You HAVE been down here a long time, haven't you?"

So, I'm sure, when Joan and Jack were negotiating for him to take her to civilization, where she said, "Would you take $275.00 in Traveler's Checks?" and he replied, "American Express?" were a reference to that. I love this and have watched it many times. Kathleen Turner is good in Serial Mom and I even like Peggy Sue Got Married though I fast forward through parts of it nowadays.

A writer friend of mine said I inspired one of her characters and dedicated the novella to me. The character was a cowboy. An undead cowboy.

When this movie came out. The mud slide scene was shown repeatedly for every interview show they appeared on. Great times. "...Joan Wilder? I read your books" Great chemistry in this cast. First of three movies with these stars. Peggy Sue got married is another KT movie with time travel? and Nick Cage as a door wop singer. Nice job guys. No really.

Up until Romancing the Stone, Robert Zemeckis had not had a successful movie. The success of this one ensured that he would be able to make Back to the Future.
