As it is with other languages, Romanian too has accents. Different regions say things a bit differently. However, the Romanian term “grai” which is more similar to the English “speech” covers way more than stresses and sounds.
In this episode we explore exactly that. We specify what “graiuri” there are, we explore the differences, and we give you a touch of each specific one.

Ii greseala mare sa spui ca graiul din Basarabia e dialect e limba romana cu unele rusizme , in limba romana nu exista dialecte , doar regionalizme !!!

The subtitles helped, but also the fact that you spoke slowly :-) I'm a little afraid of what it will be like when I finally am able to visit...

For a raw beginner, the speed and annunciation is about right for me to pick up some words and attempt to join the dots. Foarte bine. Multsumesc.

I'm from Timisoara, but it's funny that I recognize all or most of these regionalisms and ways of speaking because my grandparents are from Moldova, and Muntenia/Oltenia. So I am very familiar with Banat Romanian as well as the others "dialects". I do believe that the Timisoara accent puts a lot more emphasis on vowel pronunciation than in Bucharest.

In oltenia zicem tot lubenita, sau cel putin in Severin de unde sunt eu, dar stiam ca toata oltenia e asa.

While I'm sure you're tired of hearing any Dracula references, I am still curious... (and I'm sure many others are too) What exactly make a Transylvanian accent? And how is it pronounced differently from the other's? (I realize that would make a whole video on it's own. Especially if it varies depending on what part of Transylvania someone is from. Still... I'd love to watch a video about it. ^_^ )

If you check the main Transylvanian graiuri (ardelean, crișănean) in this video you should get a basic idea!

They speak slower, making some vowels longer. They also use some Hungarian words. Also there is a joke that they can express several things with the onomatopeic "ioi" just function of the tone😂

Hi. Great video, thank you. Which "speech" is the one used in national TV news reports and/or spoken in parliament? Thanks.

@@subtitles8850 No worries. And thanks! I'd say the one in Muntenia. But sometimes you can't get the accent away from the person haha

În Basarabia nu se vorbește in alt dialect. Graiul lor moldovenesc este alterat cu mai multe "regionalisme" (de influență rusă). Dialecte ale limbii române pot fi considerate doar limbile romanice din Balcani. O simplă analogie cu situația dialectelor din Italia este suficientă în a înțelege ce este un dialect (grad redus de inteligibilitate).

Is there a tutorial on syllable stress in Romanian? Cuz I’m stressing my ass out, are they the same as in Italian or different?!

Hello hello. There will be one at some point the first season. Unfortunately they do not 100% respect the same rules. And depend a lot on the language they come from and the way they are derived in Romanian. P.S. if more people are interested in such an episode, please like this comment.

Hiya, which town speaks the Romanian that is closest to the original Latin ? The dialect with the smallest influence of Slavic ( or other ) languages ? Thanks.

Very interesting question. Probably somewhere in Oltenia is my best guess. But this is the whole thing. The dialect conversation is quite tricky in Romanian. Read the reply below

@@TheRomanianAcademypăi tocmai ce ai zis in video că graiul moldovenesc este un dialect!😮
@TheRomanianAcademy
@TheRomanianAcademy 6 месяцев назад
@@mimisor66 Mersi mult că mi-ai atras atenția. I'm going to say it in English so that all get more acquainted to this debate. In Romanian the conversation about dialects is a gray area to some and a very black and white to others. The latter agree the only Romanian dialects are Daco-Romanian, Aromanian, Istro-Romanian and Magleno-Romanian. And they also seem to say dialect = language. On the other hand there are those who say dialect = accent. Now, from 1812 till 1918 and after 1941 until 1991 Bessarabia was under Russian/USSR rule and that's when 'Moldovan' was created. I am no linguist and I wouldn't go as far as saying Moldovan is another language. But if you'd take any modern Romanian accents (muntenean, dobrogean, maramureșean etc), I'd argue that Moldovan is the closest there is to a dialect. Which is also a bit of truth from both worlds. On this note, I will also edit my previous comment!

In English Yoh, where did you let ''mălai'' (corn)? From when I was a boy and I was goin' to buy corn, that's how was saying to it, mălai. I've just had a look in the (Romanian) dictionary, DEX.ro, and is true...mălai means pouder corn. I was amazed. This is just I know from when I was a boy, ''mălai''. Thanks, buddy! - honstly, not sarcastically
