Hey Jon I Love this series and i just watched the Civ 6 series :) I relly hope you Are gonna do a Lot more strategy games and at least make 1 more Civ 6 series please 😊

pontus always dominates in my games. I had one game where julii of their own volition had taken about five cities, brutii dominated the north and greece, I had africa and spain and pontus owned everything east of byzantium, the war was brutal

The Brutii get the Velite, The Scipii get the murmillo, and the Julii get the Samnite gladiators.

you forgot the best bit about crete, its not trade, but there is a perceptible increase in chance of having cretan archers spawn there

Biological warfare in RTW is way too dis-easy.

Huh. I just came back from a trip to Greece, and I visited Corinth and Athens and several other cities. Corinth was the last city on my tour. Seeing all the ruins and history in these places was an amazing, life-changing experience. The food and people were awesome as well. So sending love to Greece... ....before the Romans invade in the next episode. LOL! ;-D

"Revenge" is kinda too strong... You've literally just invaded Greece and then enslaved their people. And when you say revenge, you kinda sound like Stalin and Hitler when they figured out that Poles are actually gonna... you know... defend themselves.

This tactic used to be really funny until 2020 hit us. This is still my favourite MATN series though.

I am from the distant future year of 2020. The future has not been kind to us. Yeah, quarantining places that have a dangerous and deadly disease is extremely important. Even the ancient people understood this, but we have more idiots and we are not allowed to stone them.

At least at the end of the day we have Rome: Total War.

General Windex, pretty sure i use that to keep my monitor polished.

for me the most orgasmically good mercenary in the game is the mercenary War Elephants. they can act as battering rams, they instill massive fear, and if you're smart enough with them you can get them hundreds of kills every battle and keep them at full strength forever.

Wanted to binge this in 2020 and of course clicked on the one about bio warfare first haha

I feel like you should upgrade your slow moving arrow shooting boats with slightly larger and maybe slightly faster arrow shooting boats so you can destroy other slow moving arrow shooting boats more effectively

i started a parallel game to this playthrough... and in mine the julii haventh conquered shit, and the brutii were wiped out by Macedon around 250 bc... meanwhile the skipii (me) have conquered carthage, cicilie, most of numidia and all of iberia... skipii for life.

I know you're in love with Juno but Mercury is good too. especially in Athens. I'm playing a game as the Scipii and when I took Athens it was making nearly 9000 denarii from trade, my second highest was carthage with 4000 from trade so yeah.

Small trick: If you have an abundance of money you can recruit mercenaries and disband them to get some extra population. You can even sometimes use bribing for that :3

I have three units of Mirmillo Gladiators in my main army, they are the best type. They are gods. While only possessing 40 men in a unit, they have superb stats. My retrained 1 chevron unit has 15 attack, 3 charge, light weapon type, 17 total defence, 9 armor, 8 defence, and 2 hit points. The only downside is that they don't carry shields so that means archers are very annoying, but it also mean they are very fast. Excellent moral, may charge without orders, although that's never happened to me, very good stamina, and can sap, can someone tell me what sapping something means. The downside is the 208 upkeep, with a initial hire of 700.

I bought Rome 2 because of your series... I love it so much.

I discovered this channel only recently. And it's great. Your pqssion for this game is on the dame level like mine. Also I saw you have the remastered version. Well if you're interested in a very cool period off the Roman Republic, than subscribe to the mod 77bc twilight off the Republic. It's full off historical characters and a very accurate and larger map like Rome 2 has. You will defenitly like it. Also starting as Rome (SPQR faction) is not as easy as you think as you have to deal with a lot off damage due to the civil war and 2 Mithradatic wars with the 3th one about to start. But first you have to take out the last huge Marian supporters and the great general Quintus Sertorius. Are you can start as them in Hispania they're called the Sertoriani. Also Armenia with Tigranes the great factionleader or Pontus with Mithradates VI as faction leader is awesome. It was one off my favourite mods on the original Rome total war and now that's much more stable in the remastered version is awesome. Also if playing as the Romans you also have to deal with the Gauls sooner or later with if you want Julius Caesar and in 73bc there's an uprising off Slaves in Southern Italy... the third servile war. I hope you read this I will post in some other vids this exact comment. Please try it out. I bet you will love it. You're a good player so I would Suggest a faction like the Sertoriani or the SPQR itself because all the stuff you have to deal with and on time to not get huge penalties but to get bonuses.

OK, so if Kydonia (the rebel settlement on Crete) is such a trading powerhouse, why didn't you take it sooner? I picked up Caralis in Sardinia and it does nothing but make me money, quietly. No outside invasions, etc. Am I missing something by prematurely taking Kydonia?

The Greek-Egyptian war could have been caused by a Greek rebellion somewhere, probably Cyrenaeca in North Afrika, though that usually rebels to Macedon. Or maybe just a random port blockade like the AI is wont to do.

I have actually been playing this really fun game as the Macedonians (I modded the txt file so I could play them) and I have just been taking so much territory after people declaring war on me ( I actually never declared any wars everyone just attacked me) and the Greek Cities have been reduced to Rhodes and Syracuse meanwhile the Bruitii have been wiped out and the Julii only have Sardinia and that little Carthaginian Island in the Balaeric Islands, I also have Spain and Pontus as allies, Pontus have control over all of Turkey but Spain has been almost destoryed by the Guals.

Is there any any chance you'll play the Fourth Age mod? It's the lord of the rings/Tolkein universe mod that was completed in 2016.

You have double stack army right next to Athens, yet you are worried about a half stack of units, which arent even effective defending the wall? (since AI always puts as many troops on the wall as it can) A bit silly...

Right after comment in last video. Have you considered taking Malta, a Libyan city, and Crete for your fight against Greece? Malta and Libya gives you the ability to make an effective blockade. The computer seems determined to invade so make them pay for every troop they put on and taking Crete gives you an effective blockade of their main islands from the isthmus.

You had two stacks totally capable of taking Athens for that mission, it was actually worse for you to plague nuke it. god one part of hates this play through because you seem to completely block out some really important stuff (like this and the scipi attacking the Carthaginians, among many, many other things), but the other part of me loves this play through exactly because of that reason.

Jon I'd love if you tried out mount and blade warband, there's a demo available and a very good expansion called viking conquest which I would argue makes the game even better.

Had to battle a rebel uprising that consisted of velite gladiators recently with legionary cohorts. Still took forever to destroy the bastards. *Don't* underestimate their stamina.

How did that single experienced horseman survive only to be rushed by a full unit of cavalry and not just slit his own throat before he was trampled?

Alright! Been waiting all day for this.

I always thought the reason there was one consul in this game was because one consul always came from the patricians (i.e. the great families), and one from the proletariat. In other words, for all intents and purposes, there is only one consul position between the three families because the other they are not eligible for.

Rebels also disrupt trade (if they are on a major trade route). along with devastation you are also losing out on both the trade your city would be making on its own and the trade that is benefiting the rest of the empire trading with that city. Rebels also get stronger the more you let them roam around, so letting them sit there for like 5 turns like you did really made your job a lot harder.

I think you should actually help you fellow Romans, I think you could take on the extra challenge.
