The machine shop I work in has one of these. It's been sitting in a box for 4 years basically brand new. I'm on day 2 of tinkering with it. Nowhere near making programs. I'm using the quick dimension feature from the software used to calibrate the probe to get a feel for how to use it to measure and I'm getting variations up to .001 in. Any suggestions on how to make my readings more repeatable?
It's all about how consistently you probe the object. Try to probe objects straight up and down or at exactly 90 deg to your objects. There is a need for good technique.
The calibration is a lengthy process. I might make a video on this at some point. The arm has to be moved into about a dozen different positions as referenced to indentations in a calibration standard bar. It's tricky.
30 second process to calibrate a probe. Go into the RDS Control Panel --> Probe Tab --> Calibrate button --> select Single Point calibration ---> take 36 points in a cone or seat.... DONE!
