Despite a shortened running season this year, the Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch Railway ended their peak season of operations on a high with their annual 'End of Season Parade'. The one-day-only event featured 5 steam locomotives in service, running in a variety of combinations alongside the railways' resident diesel; No12 "J.B. Snell", and diesel locomotive "Shelagh of Eskdale", on loan from the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway.
The main coach set, working the 'End of Season Special' would featured a range of locomotives at the helm throughout the day. The Special began out of New Romney working to Hythe with "Hercules" and "J.B. Snell" in charge, before working down to Dungeness with "Winston Churchill" and "Hercules" double heading. From here, "Green Goddess" and "Northern Chief" would haul the Special all the way back to Hythe - covering over 13 miles. For the final stretch, "Samson", "Green Goddess" and "Northern Chief" triple headed the service back to New Romney, before "J.B. Snell" and "Shelagh of Eskdale" would take over at the helm, double-heading down to Dungeness and back, running non-stop.
Numerous supporting passenger services were scheduled, working around the special, in order to bolster the timetable. As a result, the day saw three coach sets in service, with passengers allocated compartments on services to ensure safety procedures were adhered to.
