About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,700+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

This is the Romper Room I remember from the late 1970s/early 1980s, with Miss Sally as the teacher (this version was produced in Baltimore at WMAR/2 and also aired on WDCA/20 in DC)

@@wmbrown6 I could have sworn they only had the local version on WOR. Anyone know exactly when Miss Molly assumed hosting duties in NYC? I know she joined the national show later that fall season.

KTXA hadn't actually been on the air long at this point, with a combination of general entertainment and ONTV at night. Hope you have some more from KTXA or DFW programming in general.

Yes, I found the description credibly confusing, as I don't remember Channel 21 before the 1980s. My childhood memories of Dallas Fort Worth channels are channel for CBS, channel 5 NBC, Channel 8 ABC, Channel 13 PBS, and channel 11 an independent. Seems like 39 might have been in there back then as well, another independent. My earliest memories of 21 were in the early 1980s, when it used to hold holiday marathons of old TV, such as a Labor Day marathon of Twilight Zone episodes, or episodes of various shows from the 1950s, which is how I saw the only episode of Amos & Andy I ever saw in my life and also how I saw The Honeymooners for the first time. Wondering before watching if maybe 21 simply owns the rights to this tape? ETA: Ah, I didn't previously catch that this was a Romper Room episode from 1981, as I never realized until now the Romper Room extended past the 1970s when I watched it as a child. Dang, how bizarre to see what a hothouse our local area was for the wacko side of the religious spectrum. We've had so many respectable, admirable Christians, but there isn't a single one broadcasting during the show...

Ah, the early days of Channel 21. KTXA had five different IDs at the time, and the display seen on this video is just one of them. Note the announcer for that is none other than Larry James, a Dallas radio jock who would also lend his voice a few years earlier to KRLD-TV (Channel 33).

Interesting to think that Walt Disney World was about to celebrate its 10th anniversary at the time (October 1971). I wonder if the kids got a glimpse of Epcot still under construction at the time.

I'm sure you have all noticed that despite there being a 'Romper Room' line of toys from Hasbro, they never advertised on the 'Romper Room' show in this period. This was due to restrictions on advertising on children's programming instituted in the 1970's due to pressure from groups like Action for Children's Television (ACT).

Wow, I guess the pledge was so normalized over the years that I didn't remember this creepy bit where even Romper Room includes the pledge. So bizarre that it's been considered a normal and patriotic thing to train kids to recite a loyalty oath everyday as if we were in some Communist dictatorship or something.

Yeah, I always wondered about that, like people boast about how "oh those people in North Korea, they are all brainwashed, blah blah blah" and then get angry when someone doesn't stand for the anthem because maybe, just maybe, they Don't like the way the country is being run. They use the flimsy excuse of "oh it's disrespectful to veterans" but like if you seen how veterans are treated in the US, you'd be kneeling too.

She does realize the events depicted in The Swiss Family Robinson didn't really occur, right? It sounds like she thinks The Swiss Family Robinson was documentary and their treehouse are Disney is where it actually occurred.
