Today we're taking another look at the #McLaren Racing #F1 team, more specifically at their ex boss, Ron Dennis. He got a struggling team and turned it into a clinical dictatorship. Today we're going to be taking a look at how he made it return to its roots after almost 40 years, under the management of Zak Brown.

The use of Ford and Peugeot engines in 1993 and 94 is kind of a "what could have been" situation since the team also tested Lamborghini engines prior to the end of their Honda deal with Senna praising them.

Frank Williams only bought sponsors to the team, never shared control, Ron Dennis stole several of his sponsors in early 80’s, offering them stakes in McLaren, but they eventually ousted him out during the McLaren-Honda disaster, as Dennis was only a minority owner of the company.

what actually happened was that basically he had done to him what he had done to Teddy Mayer - kinda poetic really

I expected more detail of what exactly Dennis had done to be a ejected from McLaren. The video title is misleading and spent 90 percent of it discussing how he made McLaren. I suggest you concentrate on the fall out since that is what your title promised.
@MrEthGil
@MrEthGil 2 года назад
The detail is more simple: Dennis had stepped down as CEO of McLaren in 2009, handing over the reigns to Martin Whitmarsh, but returned to his post in 2014 under the condition that he would seek investment to take a controlling interest in the company. His attempts to do so ultimately failed, with Dennis' relationship with Ojjeh became difficult as early as 2013, culminating in a meeting in October 2016 where Ojjeh discussed Dennis' exit from McLaren. In November 2016 Dennis lost a court case against his fellow shareholders that saw him suspended from his position as chairman. Dennis' contract with McLaren expired in January 2017, and in June 2017 it was announced that he had agreed to sell his remaining shares in both the McLaren Technology Group and McLaren Automotive. Ron, in his pursuit of perfection, decided it was a great idea to take the shareholders into court. After he lost, it was the only solution

It's easy for you to just make a video and criticize a man who probably made the McLaren legacy continue till this day. Yes he might have his own dark times but has contributed so much for the team, to be fair your video should mention both his good and bad. Btw for the spy gate controversy he is the one who reported it to Max Mosley after being threatened by one of his own drivers.

Wasn't martin withmarsh appointed as team principal from 2009-2013, before Dennis kicked him out? Also, i like the small changes you made in the video, makes it that extra bit better

@@RaianF1 I think there is a bigger story with Whitmarsh than most people think. Dennis really wanted him to step up and run the team because Dennis knew himself that he would have been better running the business. Whitmarsh just didn't have enough charisma or personality to get the best out of the team and couldn't really motivate Hamilton or Button like he needed to (they just motivated themselves).

@dominicbarden4436
@dominicbarden4436 2 года назад
@@SlapBassDarius I know, but I was under the impression that RBR were effectively Renault's works team, especially after Renault themselves sold at least most oif not all of their stake in 'Team Enstone' to Genii Capital. A similar sort of thing to McLaren's first Mercedes tenure effectively being a works deal up until 2010 or so when Mercedes had sold their stake in the team and bought Brawn GP.

@dominicbarden4436
@dominicbarden4436 2 года назад
@@uweclaunitzer7170 Not necessarily. In 1993 Benetton and McLaren had different spec Ford engines as McLaren had a customer deal while Benetton had the works contract. I was wondering if Williams and Benetton had a similar arrangement in 1995 (and indeed, '96-'97) or not, as Williams had basically been Renault's works team since Renault had returned to F1 with them in 1989.

Not sure what to make of this video. It was a good effort to put together second hand picts and information, but to those who have followed F1 for a good while, it is a bit sketchy to say the least. I don't want to run through the whole video, but let's just point out a few things towards the end. You seem to hail Zac Brown as the saviour of the team from the post-Dennis era, ok let's just inform people that the McLaren Group as a whole, just a couple of years ago, under Brown's lead, was about to fold, to go bankrupt. You can google it up fairly easily. They were on the verge of complete failure were it not for last minute cash injections to the tune of $1bn from venture capitalists for the racing operations, and they had to sell the whole flagship McLaren Technology Centre for $200 million, for which they paid close to $500 million just to build 23 years ago...

Just the millions of dollars and time invested in Hamilton should have been reason enough for his demise. But than again maybe he saw something as he didnt fight very hard inorder to retain him even after everything that was invested in him. Lets not forget Ron Dennis is still the second most successful F1 team in history behind Ferrari
