I agree with you. I am a Real Madrid fan and a CR7 fan. Some of the free kicks should be taken by other players. It all depends on the location of the free kick. When it comes to the penalty kiks, he is a really good at penalty kiks. I think that he should retired from the national team after this Euro. His time is over. You can see that he and Messi are done. Make room for the new generation. I really appreciate the 15 years or so of joy, happiness and quality of soccer that these two guys gave us. We all get old, "IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON." Thank you for the great times. Two of the best. I am 51 years old. I have been watching soccer for the last 45 years. I have seen great players. PELE AND MARADONA ARE ABOVE ALL.
@@andersmortensen7415 You couldn't be more wrong. If Ronaldinho was better at everything then why did he have a worse goal to game ratio, a worse assist ratio, and a worse free kick ratio; among many more aspects... He scored 20 free kicks for Barca in five seasons, while Messi when he began taking them regularly from the 11/12 season onwards scored 50 in 10 seasons. In fact, Messi in just 3 seasons between 16-17 to 18/19 scored 20 free kicks for Barca, which was the same amount as Ronaldinho managed in those five seasons at Barca.
His selfish behavior is why Don Perez was happy to let him go to Juve. Perez is a very smart man and I was happy he left for Juve. He was acting like a spoiled child even back in 2016/17 and 2017/18. It’s a team sport. Scoring 1 out of 64 last free kicks is dismal. Insisting on taking more free kicks tells you about his character.
He’s always been selfish thats why most players that have played with him don’t like him or associate with him anymore bale Benzema Ramos all three have spoken about his selfishness. He left Madrid because messi was earning more money and Perez thought he wasn’t worth it I believe that also cost him the 2018 ballndor had he stayed at Madrid he would of won it with ease seeing as he won the cl that year.
2016-2018 was Ronaldo’s peak and he was the most clutch player in the world in those years. You’re completely wrong. In fact, Madrid in 2018/19 had one of their worst seasons ever because that was their first season without Ronaldo
COMPLETELY agreed - It is Martinez's greatest failure to not convince Ronaldo to relinquish even the free kicks, when you have Fernandes AND Silva. It show he is completely spineless when it comes to Ronaldo.
Why would he go from some one superior at doing free kicks to some one inferior, who would you chose to take the free kick that would be better at it than Ronaldo

Eric Dier has scored the same amount of goals from direct free kicks at major international tournaments as Cristiano Ronaldo. And has taken considerably less 💀
Funny, I do agree Ronaldo should not always take a free kick. However: The last time Manchester United were to score directly from a free-kick was Cristiano Ronaldo against Norwich in the Premier League on the 16th of April 2023.22 Ronaldo scored another great one in October for al Nassr. In fact I did see other Portuguese players take a free kick with Ronaldo on the pitch. That is usually when the free kick is on the right handside of the goal. Usually it was Rafael Guerreiro who took them. But he never scored. Also Bruno has taken a few shots while CR7 was absent. He never scored either.
What a weird thing to bring Man Utd in for no reason lol. This is about Ronaldo's record over a number of years which is beyond embarrassing for a guy who always takes free kicks and misses 99% of them. So what if Man Utd's last free kick goal was from Ronaldo? And your point? Can't be doing with Ronaldo FC fanboys who likely don't support any team, just their idols. Ronaldo’s ego almost cost them and they get away with it but next time they are gonna be out. This guy is greedy and selfish. Can’t he learn from Messi in terms of his relationship with his teammates?
Ronaldo penalties are amazing tho so he wasn't ego when he took them.however the free kicks are questionable even though he scores only like 10 percent of the time lol
Craig is 100%. I’m a Portuguese supporter. Been one for as long as I can remember. I’m loyal to my team and not any individual talent and it breaks my heart to see such a gifted squad being held hostage by an aging, deluded superstar. A good manager makes the right decision, and doesn't worry about losing his job because of that decision. Ronaldo has no business as a starting forward for a national team looking to win a major tournament like the Euros. Burley is spot on with his analysis.
Bellingham was nowhere for more than 3 games, pretty much gone after scoring that goal in the first game. And Southgate did not have the guts to sub him, because it's Bellingham. And look how bad that worked for England... Oh, wait!
Bellingham has scored two goals in 4 games including saving England, Southgate and his teammates Bacon. Bellingham is 21 and has been the best player in Spain possibly the world this season. They act like Ronaldo blasted every free kick into the stands lol. 2 of the 3 free kicks today were pretty good efforts. One just over the bar and the other rocket that forced a good reaction save from Oblak. Not one free kick has been scored this tournament
no they didnt even require the keeper to take a step. He only goes for power now on every strike for some wow factor from people who dont closely follow sport or havent been lifelong followers. Thats always easiest ball to defend it takes skill to bend the ball or pass t into corner. Fact that hes the strker means if hes taking free kick theres no threat ni box to head ball in. He cant score only one in his career was against spain that went up and overwall. Bruno and bernardo will never go for goal thats what most "team" players and creators do, but at least force defenders to thiink and the keeper. Plus you have your striker in box to actually be a threat much more likely to score thatn shoot from spot thats why nobody has scored its math they are setting up team and strikers/defenders in box. This is youth level tactics its basics. It was a 4-2-3-1 formation bruno and leao id beating there man would only encounter ronaldo in there way anyhow and the two centerbacks he just stays in between. Not a true strker so never developed the skill to hld u play with back togoal like a proper striker. He doesnt drag defenders out of box so a bruno or leao can score or create. Watch morata for spain its why yamal and niko williams have so much space and a chance to score. Not only has ronaldo struggled but they have adopted a formation that if hes not scoring nobody else can either. Its a joke. He doesnt press either so portugal dont gain possession ni advantageous areas instead they have to play from out back and try to break down a low block every time. Its the stupidist system ive ever seen in 35 years watching especially from a team that scored so much in qualifyinig 36-2 they outscored teams all ranked similar to who they have played. Bruno had 9 goals and assists but because he rarely played wth ronaldo and was one when best pass s open pass and everyone was threat to score so they are so difficult to defend. They are one dimensoinal now with this formatoin not to mentiion all other issues lke playing full time in losing effort in non necessary group match when he planned to play 120 minutes in knockouts. But ofcs media agenda on CR7 will continue keep crying
Just a remark: the only time when Portugal won the euro cup Ronaldo went off injured after minute 25, and Portugal played way better without him. And won.
And moreover, in 2019 during the nation's league group stage, Ronaldo asked to be dismissed from national duty to better focus on adapting to juventus. They gave him permission. Portugal played for almost a year without him, and they played the best, most fluid team football that I've ever seen Portugal play since 2008. Including a win vs italy which was the first and only time Portugal have beaten Italy for over 60 years. And they did so WITHOUT Cris. Ended up winning the competition and Bernardo was the mvp of the tournament and Ruben Dias was motm in the final, when he was still playing for Benfica. If he had any sense of honor he would have retired from national team after that nation's league. He won it, would have been the perfect send off for him instead of embarrassing himself as he's been doing since. And would have opened up space for many other players that could by now be on an upper level in terms of competing for a starting spot on the 11, like leão, felix, jota, ramos and even neto or beto (ex Udinese, now in Everton) could already be maintains on the national team.

Portugal have a wide array of awe-inspiring talent; some of the best players on planet Earth. Yet they are forced to lump it into the 18-yard box for the benefit of one player. It is absolutely astounding that a top-level football team is playing to the wishes and ego of one player.
I’ve always loved Cristiano I just think he’s aging poorly. His glory days are clearly behind him but his pride just won’t let him accept it. When I started playing club I always knew the older guys were better but I always told myself you’d be nuts to think they would ever beat me to the ball in pace and outlast me in stamina. Cr7 is 39. Just looking at that on paper is completely nuts. He should let his teammates grow into his role.
Exactly idk how some people just don’t get this. people acting like it’s a birth right to keep playing high level international football for him. Against Luxembourg in Lisbon I’m sure he is deadly. Respect the man for all he has accomplished but they really need to stop pandering to him, it's very much the case of if you go against Ronaldo you will be the villain, even if he benched Ronaldo and Portugal went on to win without him, you can bet there would be backlash once the celebrations died down.

Huge Ronaldo fan. I agree with Craig about free kicks. I have thought this way all the way back to Juventus. Let someone else take the kicks. As for his play, he has not looked out of place. None of the tip stars have been scoring regularly. This tournament has been super defensive, slow, and possession based. I’m hoping that he retires from international duty though. If not after the euros, definitely after the nations league. He’s done his part. Let the kids play.
Penalties never should be taken by any other than Cristiano though. The most accurate penalty and best penalty taker ever. Sure some players have better conversation rate but that's cause they've taken less

He’s appeared for his country than any other player has done for their countries. Until the last match day when Lukaku scored 4 goals, Cr7 was the highest goal scorer in 2024 qualifier. He outscored the likes of Kane, Lewandowski, Mbappe, Haaland, Lukaku, Griezman, Foden, Saka, Jude, Musiala, etc. Ronaldo was subbed off in the match against Georgia, Portugal looked horrible and couldn’t even attack without him. Ronaldo selflessly demonstrated team spirit by squaring a ball he could’ve taken himself to Bruno, yet this rubbish pundits claim Cr7 is greedy and cares for himself alone. Bruno fernandez has never had to take any penalties under that much pressure, he has only 1 free kick goals in the premier league. The only player that has been there done it all was Cristiano. Yes he kicked the penalty into the corner and lost, so what❓‼️ Messi lost a penalty in the World Cup, Messi lost 2 consecutive penalties in Copa America finals, Messi lost two 1v1 chances against a Canadian goalkeeper, we can go on and on.
He was substituted in the third game. The one against Georgia, when they already qualified for the knockout stages. He had no business being in that game in the first place.
Personally, I enjoyed seeing how vicious those free kicks have been. The one free kick that I thought was unbelievable was the one he took near the sidelines. That was too greedy and very idiotic. Other than that, I've enjoyed seeing his free kicks in front of the box
Cristiano hasn't been good at free kicks in ages. Cristiano should have stopped being the primary free kick taker, when Madrid bought Gareth Bale in 2013.
@@brandongriffin79 Bale was great at free kicks. As a football fan I always appreciated Bale's shooting technique, and I would have liked to see him having scored some more free kicks in his career, but Cristiano took so many opportunities from him, when Cristiano was clearly the inferior free kick taker. I respect Cristiano and I understand that he had certain privileges as Madrid's best player, but it was still a selfish decision by him to take almost all free kicks, wasn't it?
@@blerimimodaable So two games ago he wanted his team to score, even if it means he doesn't. But now he changed? All of a sudden he cares more about himself than the team? That's just laughable.
