In era of messi and cr, I'll always put R9 in a special place. Still remember even the japanese kids went to barber just to get that hairstyle. The real fenomeno all around the world.
So kind from the opposite team defender's the immediately called the doctors... respect 👍 And Ronaldo-9 u will always b the greatest striker of all time...
Football fans in that era are much more humble than today. When they see that defender injures Ronaldo, nobody calls death threats to the defender, meanwhile today you see when Ramos injured Salah, everybody say death to Ramos. Football fans of today are so cowardly and soft they felt the need to villify any defender injuring their beloved player without realizing football in the 90's are so much more brutal. Shameful.
Ronaldo's kneecap popped up into his thigh after the tendon snapped. He had an underlying condition called trochlear dysplasia, which meant he had unstable kneecaps. Without that condition Ronaldo would have been the greatest of all time; but unfortunately with his explosive speed and underlying condition, this type of injury was inevitable. Thankfully his knees held up for the 2002 world cup, and it shows remarkable bravery to play football at such a level when he must have known the injury could happen again. He injured his left knee in 2008. Such a shame.
Yeh its horrible... I believe I have a similar condition too, but I also believe that its a lot harder for me to get this kind of terrible injury due to the shape of my legs. i get dislocations quite often where I can't play football for 8 weeks... but my legs are V shaped with the knees pointing more inwards, so I think because its so much easier for my knees to dislocate there's a much lower chance that i could tear my cruciate ligaments, or for anything to actually snap. I have shattered parts of the meniscus cartillage in my left knee, I actually heard the pop too, but it turned out there was absolutely no ligament tear, which is odd but lucky. Also had ligament sprains in my left knee too, and twice in my right knee. I hope my theory about my bone structure's advantages and disadvantages are correct. I'd be more than happy to occasionally be injured for 8 weeks due to a ligament sprain if it means I can avoid a horrible 2 year injury like that.
@@michireal99 Ronaldo have a condition called Trochlear dysplasia, that made his patellar bones unstable, that's why he suffered this injury in both of his knees, First in 1999 and Second in 2008, his injuries wasn't caused by unhealthy lifestyle, but by genetics.
To have injuries of this level. To suffer a heart attack before the 1998 World Cup final to get injured AGAIN after that, to win the World Cup in 2002 is the greatest footballing comeback story I have ever seen or will see. El fenómeno
You can feel his pain through the screen. What a terrible moment in football history. How he came back from this is still a miracle for me. And he scored in the 2002 final. What a legend!
And he was significantly diminished when he won that World Cup. The head for the game was still there but he lost a lot of that explosive speed that made him the best striker of his time.
3:55 Look at this image....If somebody say "his career is over", you will believe them. But three years passed and Ronaldo returned for FIFA 2002 World Cup. He scores 8 goals and become world champion. So when you go through real pain in life, you must remember one thing. NEVER GIVE UP.
So sad that he was never the same again. I remember the first time I saw clips of him playing at Barcelona, I thought the footage had been sped up. The fact that he won a ballon d'or and a world cup after this is testament to how naturally gifted he was
I can hardly watch this, I watch the pain in his face and I think “we lost the greatest of all time” I will never forget to watching this for the first time. Heartbreaking.
Incredible that he came back and won the World Cup/Golden Boot and ballon d'or after this. Considering he was never the same player after the injury, he just shows how phenomenal he was before it. Most devestating player I've ever seen, nobody could touch him.
Ronaldo have a condition called Trochlear Dysplasia, that made his patellar bones unstable. And its genetics. That why he suffered both of his injuries. Its a shame, God give him God-Level talent but with genetics bone problem.
For those who truly enjoy football, watching such genius is a total joy. I was very busy studying for university in 97 when he was at barca. I still made time to watch this guy play on TV. This is perhaps the saddest day in football history. Other great players like van Basten and Michael Owen also suffered from terrible injuries, but R9 was incredibly gifted, from another planet. 👏👏👏👏
wow what an unlucky guy r9 is man what a talent easily if injuries not part of his beautiful career he can be easily at a level untouchable and still after those injuries he is best striker
Shocking images, terrifying. The injury that ruined his career, I don’t doubt without his injuries he would be the best player in football history, his numbers were insane, I’m glad he could still play very well and win the World Cup after that.
JeuxGoogle JeuxGoogle Messi yes CR7 not. His goals and achievements are the things he was more successful in (except WC). But as a player not even close. Speed, agility, dribbling and playing against legends while at his prime was incredible!
What I like about this video is the opposition literally straight away knew what happened and got help. The start of the problems for Ronaldo which was a shame
doesnt have to be a genius to figure out something was wrong when he dropped down without any challenge from the opponents and screaming like crazy while clutching his knees they automatically knew he needed help ASAP
Oh' i can still remember this day,, my fenomeno. wizard on the pitch of all time. the best no 9. till date. Injury why did you do this to football. Ronaldo moves, dribble, passe, passes and incredible shot is absolutely breath taking. we miss you on the pitch our no 9.
From what I’ve read, the problems with his knees came from his time at PSV where he was given a treatment at a young age that gave him knee dysplasia. This causes the tendon that allows you run, dribble and chute to become unstable. His knees where unnatural in comparison to his physiology. Thus, this injury was bound to happen. I think Ronaldo was also rather heavy for his abilities.
DIMITAR преди 1 секунда Hello 2020 person! That's so sad of a football moment. I'm actually just going through his biography and all of his career today. IL FENOMENO!
Nobody can just give you dysplasia, it’s a type of growth that starts from within the cells. It’s something you’re born with. How can you be so stupid as to think a physio gave someone dysplasia, that’s like saying my dad caught prostate cancer cause somebody sneezed on him.
@@mariolisa2832 He expressed himself badly, he meant that the training sessions at PSV were poorly planned, it was not made to fit Ronaldo's needs and it was too heavy for his knees, it was an accident, players nowadays have a more personal training session, a diet etc. Something that fit their characteristics and needs.
Inter’s team doctor said that R9’s knee basically ‘exploded’. Rushed back from the previous surgery, he just wasn’t ready. How he came back from that horrific injury, and adapted his style to compensate for the weak knee, was amazing. He was STILL a world class forward, albeit without that trademark burst of speed. One GOAT, one Ronaldo. It’s as simple as that. 👏 Much love, from Wales. 🏴
YILDIRIM CALISKAN THAT ARROGANT SELFISH FUCK DON’T HAVE A NATURAL TALENT LIKE *”🇧🇷🇧🇷EL FENÓMENO #9”🇧🇷🇧🇷”* all Rapenaldo does is score TAP INS & PENALTIES & yells Siuu like a little Rat boy. There’s No comparison, *Ronaldo9🇧🇷* was a *TEAM* Player that was *LOVED* LOVED LOVED *LOVED* by *EVERYONE!* The Best Player of the world and Best Strker, while Rapenaldo is just a marketed regular forward that takes selfies after several plastic surgeries to his face, fixed his Teeth & goes on Instagram saying “I’m the best Siuuu” a Selfish Arrogant overrated *INDIVIDUALIST* who doesn’t celebrate teammates goals and steals teammates goals so he can be put on thumbnails 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️.. he’s the most Hated player by the REAL futbol FANS and this Generation but yet has followers on Instagram that are mainly Toxic little rat fan boys with multiple fake accounts. Nobody cares about *Rapenaldo’s* TAP INS, DIVE INS & PENALTIES!
@@Willie-po1lf Funny that Cristiano is the only player to ever score 126 tap ins and penalties in UCL BTW: Cristiano goals in the UCL (not counting penalty goals): 106 Ronaldo Fenomeno goals in the UCL (counting every goal): 37
His dribbling was so good he tricked even his own ACL into thinking he was going the other way, so the ACL went one way, his body went the other way and it tore up. What a stud! 🙌🏻
Iam 40 years old and I watched this game at the time and i was a great fan of ronaldo, and this injury broke my heart ❤ It is true that he returned after two years and won the World Cup But Ronaldo 1996-1999 was the best version of a soccer player you can see it 😔💔
Un momento muy fuerte para el fenómeno y también para el fútbol y todos los que le veíamos jugar. Porque estábamos contentos de que regresaba después de 6 meses y luego esto, que en su momento no se sabía si volvería jugar. Momento fuerte. Ufff
Everybody loved him, even the rivals who played against him. That's because Ronaldo was pure joy on the field, he was always being tackled without complaining, just wanted to play football
Ronaldo was already awarded Ballon d 'Or at the age of 20 when Messi and CR7 at the same age of 20 is just starting out playing regular football and they are not even in the contention for the award. At age 20, Ronaldo aIready surpass Messi/CR7 by a huge mile and was rightfully awarded the Ballon d'Or. I have no doubt in my mind Ronaldo Phenomenon will win 10 straight Ballon d' Or if he stay injury free throughout his career, that's how good he is. Sometimes i think God unfairly gave Ronaldo injury because Ronaldo is just too good to be playing in human level because his football skills are from another planet, his level is like alien compared to normal human.
As inter Milan fan for over 36 years this hurts to watch I remember when at work I was excited to hear that he was on his way back after injury Then the manager a fucking gobbo from Tuscany gave me the news of a new very bad injury with the smile on his face ( what a prick) A injury that kept him out for 2 years!!! He never came back the same player Still devastating
Sad moment in football history. We lost some or his best prime years. He was actually never the same after it. Slowed down quite a bit but he was still faster than anyone else because it’s just born in him that explosive speed.
I am telling you now if R9 was in today’s football he would of been king no comparisons at all. Even in his prime he was better than Messi and Ronaldo at a younger age with his achievements and stats
Someone who talks sense. At age 20 R9 Fenomeno already win Ballon d'Or while Messi and CR7 at that same age just started playing football. Injury or not Ronaldo Nazario will always be the best player of all time for me.
The Clube Man that’s what I am saying man people need to understand this, r9 already won the World Cup and done it all in multiple clubs before he got injured and then won the World Cup again in 2002 and then went to Real Madrid. The only title he didn’t win was the champions league. In the amount games what he achieved as wining titles and awards there is no comparison from Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo at that age. I have also said about r9 to win the dor or player of the year was a lot harder to win because all the top players were equal.
@Paul Clark Well said, I'm very glad there are people like you and me and others who really appreciate the achievements of Ronaldo Nazario the Phenomenon, unlike those CR7 and Messi fanboy who only knows CR7 and Messi without knowing the one and only true greatest player of all time that is R9.
The Clube Man just look at r9 achievements at his age and goals stats per club, at Real Madrid he was bad either. Zidane was another one to, Zidane won the World Cup, euro, won the champions league in his first year and score the winning goal and was also the highest player to be brough. Zidane came out of retirement for the World Cup in 2006 and got them to the final. Zidane knocked out Spain, Portugal and Brazil. You look at the teams with the big names and individual achievements them players won that Zidane beat is insane. This include World Cup winners, champions league winners.
Ronaldo suffered a devastating knee injury The incident occurred when he made an abrupt change in direction and his right knee buckled, tearing his patella tendon.Despite this setback, Ronaldo managed to overcome his injury and went on to achieve great success in his career, winning the FIFA World Cup title with Brazil in 2002.
Yep, injury vs Lazio happened in 2000. after 5 months pause because of the same knee, got into the game off a bench, 6 minutes on the pitch, and placed his kneecap near his hip
@@muhammadfaizulyusoff3141 Second, this was his first game after six months pause because of the same knee, and this one took him out for over one year
Ahi es cuando el mundo se paralizo y pnso q roni no regresaria!!!y en 2002 gano la copa dl mundo cn una pierna y le callo la boca a todos sus detractores😎Te amo roni💪
In this game.. i can't see. Why fernando Couto less of respect for him. Actually they are together in barcelona 1996.. Great gesture from simione.friendship!
Couto was just being professional He didnt let his guard down just because Ronaldo was his former teammate or having just recovered from a long injury That was a competitive match, a league match, you cant expect your opponent will go easy on you in such match It wasnt the worst foul either by Couto Just accept the fact that Ronnie was already fragile
Arfen Malik Ronaldo suffered of injuries even before he joined inter or barca, in a lot of cases i agree wirh you because inter letting Ronaldo play when his conditions were bad. He was unlucky and his life outside the pitch was undisciplined. But i don't want to speak of what he could have done for avoid injury because i don't know all the particulars. Ronaldo was a beast, the best player in inter history and when i watch this injury i feel the pain, a shame, one of the saddest moments in football.
@@mike0133 Ronaldo have a genetic condition called Trochlear dysplasia, that made his knees unstable, people often thinks that his injuries were caused by unhealthy lifestyle, but It was ALL about his genetics.
Ι had vivid memories of that moment... Still, remember how eager I was as a young aspiring footballer to see my favourite player in action after his injury. I couldn't believe what was going on. Ronaldo returned from this injury to become the greatest footballer in the world, but he was never the same player.
boxing fan uk Yes but without the injury he would have had his extreme pace, finishing and other things like that. I reckon he could have scored over 100 goals in a season, since at FC Barca he scored 47 goals in 49 matches but in Inter it all went downhill. I understand what you mean but he couldve done all that AND more
boxing fan uk But if there were no injuries i believe he could have even have won a couple of UCLs and a couple of ballon d'ors and stuff like that, especially since at 20 he was already better then Messi and CR7.
I can relate to Ronaldo. 4 months back ruptured my ACL, tore my LCL and MCL and fractured my Tibial Plateau and Femoral Attachment all at the same time. Worst day of my life.
Look up Shaun Livingston injury in basketball the footage is grainy but you can clearly see what happened. He bounced from team to team for years but he finally won multiple championships after almost losing his leg
It breaks my heart seeing the goat falling on the floor in pain and I’m like his biggest fan he’s my favorite soccer player and just seeing him crying on the floor makes me cry 😭
