It wasn't his hand that was the issue, the substance was in his glove. Ump said "the stickiest stuff I've felt on a glove.". They confiscated the glove so they will figure out what it was. If it was just rosin then the training staff will need to figure out how to keep it from getting in his glove, because you aren't allowed to use rosin on your non throwing hand.

To begin with, the same guy who's wrecked huge swathes of gameplay in the interest of speeding things up, has also given us this. Second, correlation doesn't apply causation but there sure are an awful lot of pitchers getting hurt now that we don't let them put sticky stuff on the baseball. If you're going to consistently throw out players that sweat a lot and make the rosin sticky then you shouldn't have the rosin bag on the mound. Oh wait you can't because it'll be unsafe.
