This is one of the most significant moments in Ronnie's career, and snooker itself. Ronnie was having a bad period in his career, not winning much in the past couple of seasons. But this comeback, and then going on to win the tournament, brought the Rocket back to life. He's been winning tournaments almost every year (except for 2015) ever since this.
This is a true story. I was watching this match and my wife came in and asked me who Ronnie was playing. I told her Higginson. She looked at him carefully for a while and then told me that he does not look like his dad at all.
He is easily the best of all time but to match Hendry's 7 would unquestionably make him the best ever. He knows this and despite his bullshit talk he will try 1000% to match hendry.
ThinkDifferent completely agree, he hadn’t won a ranking title in 3 years before this tournament. He could’ve easily thrown the towel in and got beat 5-0, but something switched in his head and he showed the will to fight back and win (perhaps a word with Steve Peters??). But after this win he gets two consecutive world titles, IMO I don’t think he would’ve had the success he has now without this moment
Thank you for your contribution to snooker, Andrew Higginson. The way you gave Ronnie a little look at that long red while 4-1 ahead was very kind of you!
Andrew Higginson was cruelly unlucky in frame 5. First, he ended up snookered on the easy red in the corner that would have virtually guaranteed victory. Then, he pulled off an excellent pressure long red, and found himself touching the brown with no way to make a colour and keep his break going. That said, Ronnie's clearance was, well, typical Ronnie!
Simply the greatest 20 majors 37 ranking titles the most premier leagues the most centuries and 147s keeping hendry Higgins Williams Selby robbo ding trump now Wilson at bay entertaining us for decades keeping snooker afloat in the most competitive era ever keeping sponsors happy and viewing figures up all on his own terms never been a slave to the game or politically perfect..... Took 9 months off comes back wins the masters then wins the world's take a year comes back and defends his title for number 5.........waisted 9 years of his career partying due to the lack of discipline and appetite and still racks up these numbers and only last year he wins the inaugural coral series beating judd again and robbo to return to world number 1 at 43🤔he owns the shanghai masters and the champ of champs a tournament designed for him😁and now at 44 he's world champion again for the 6th time so this comeback is nothing to him his achievements are scary...... His aura and presence is unique nobody like him everything he does makes headlines from numpties to ranking points to the cue action......... His longevity is legendary its his lecacy 👌
The 67 - 63 game was a clearance almost matching Alex Higgins 69 clearance back in the day against Jimmy white Awesome Ronnie even higginson smiled bout that one
Many thanks for this reminder! i honestly think Ronnie thought Higginson didn't deserve to win this... i don't think Ronnie particularly wanted to be there, but then he started playing better, coz Higginson wasted his chances. i'm not saying Ronnie would throw a match, but he might let chances slip away at times and not care. Coz it seems Ronnie can turn his CUE ACTION on at will. So it seems at least. When it's really needed, it's there. Motivation is the only factor Ronnie needs to heed. Just my opinion, and could be wrong. But i hope this season he's motivated to go on a winning streak. Am gonna bet him to win every tournament he participates haha!
At 8:33 you can see that the calm demeanor of Higgins is broken as he breaks into a small laugh after losing an almost certain match-winning frame. I suppose he got intimidated by Ronnie and this is like a nervous chuckle to release some tension. It's truly the turning point of the match as Higgins up to then seemed to keep his composure and stay in control.
@Oliver McCall wish he would..some reception he would get being introduced as world champion..the tempodrom is one of the best snooker venues with the best crowd..And the table set up is unique
Yes, there seems to be a 'switch' that some sports people, some writers, actors and designers - and, I guess, others, - can 'turn' and suddenly leap-frog their skill; switching from struggle to taking control. A kind of power! (J).
Andrew Higginson, I think he made a 147 once in the Welsh Open and in this match in Germany, he nearly sent the then three time world champion packing. But as you say, it was the turning point as far as Ronnie was concerned, career wise.
another great upload! appreciate your work Cesar, and the hardwork you do to keep us updated on snooker great moments. i recently watched WSC really enjoyed it and i think Kyren was under alot of pressure, i really enjoy this channel, when is next video coming?
This was a sliding doors moment for ronnie. If he lost he wouldn’t have qualified for worlds and then won it, and unlikely to win it the following year.
Haha the first 5 minutes Higginson is flying, making every pot, inching as close as it gets to an HISTORIC win that he's thinking he'll dine out on forever, he must've felt on top of the world lol, the cruelest of turnarounds but a perfect example why Ronnie is the greatest, once he sees a worthy challenge he locks in
Hey Cesar, great videos as always, I just wanted to ask you if you could share the link for the music you put at the end of the video, please. And thanks anyway.
Ronny the rocket IS like machine! He lost 0:4 and deciding frame he think now y need play serius 😆. This men is very calm and he know play under presure! Only ronny can do this 4 down and before win all 5 frames and finnish! The rocket IS legend in snooker. Respect for Him from Slovenija 🇸🇮👏👍
Always remember that although your opponent may have missed a vital ball you still have to pot the balls to win, and that’s what ronnie did,not his fault his opponent fluffed his chance but it relit ronnies career
4:10 onward luck was not on Higginson side..made two awesome pot but look where the white ball ended It was the rocket day afterall Great comeback, fantastic match
As much as I love Ronnie, this match is a Higginson, who should have won, crumbling under pressure and Ronnie capitalising on that pressure. He had opportunities to win and Snooker is very unforgiving when you miss those opportunities. I don't blame him, it's the worst thing about playing someone of Ronnie's stature.
