IT WILL BREAK. YOU NEED TO PULL AIR FROM YOUR TENT TO CONDITION THE TENT AIR NOT PULL FROM OUTSIDE

Did that same thing last summer on our OBX family trip. Our AC broked, did not last the 2 weeks vacation.

Pretty cool, i have done the same for my regular tent. But you would be missing the "return". Right now you are cooling outside 100° air and putting it inside the tent, with a return you would be cooling the tent's 90,80,70 degree air as it cools down making it much more efficient and decreasing the chance of getting unwanted gasses into your tent.
@nathang.1744
@nathang.1744 2 года назад
the thermostat probe is on the return air coil too so you’d get a much more accurate temperature reading so it would cycle on and off accordingly

@t04v7 2 года назад
could he just run another hose to the return?

You can always connect to smaller hose clamps to make a bigger one. Just FYI. My philosophy is always use what you got though! Great video!!

Your loosing a TON of efficiency, by not having the air inside the tent, returning to the interior air intake across the evaporator coils. You have the same temperature hot air pulling across the evaporator coils, as the condenser on the other side. If you enclose the interior portion of the unit and send a second air conduit up to your tent, you'd be circulating the air, and making the evaporator coils more efficient. Otherwise, you stand a good chance of freezing over the evaporator coils and loosing ALL air flow into your tent. Not to mention taxing your compressor and leading to an early death for it.
@texas_tv7541
@texas_tv7541 3 года назад
Thanks for the input. Will look into that. It is working well so far.
@nathang.1744
@nathang.1744 2 года назад
yea he’s right you are losing a little more than half the efficiency on the unit.. you would probably need to run a return tube on the (part where air is sucking in) on the unit that way it’s pulling inside cooler inside air.. cooling it even more, dehumidifying it and on top of that you are not putting a positive air pressure in the tent. you would get about 3/4 efficiency of the unit. now if you want all of the efficiency try moving the whole unit inside the tent. (hot air outside, cold air supply inside) and make a frame. it would get a lot colder but it would be noisier.

I did same for my garage. I used a 12000 btu and pipe in the cold air. I have no holes in my wall and I can put the air conditioner away when not in use. All the hot air is left outside.

So how do you control the temp inside if the thermostat is always exposed to the outside ambient temperature? The A/C unit would never shut off!
@texas_tv7541
@texas_tv7541 3 года назад
I set it the lowest fan setting/ highest temp over the night. It works for me to maintain comfy temp during the night time.
@nathang.1744
@nathang.1744 2 года назад
just turning the knob to 5 dosent mean it will blow any colder than 10 it just means it will run until the temp of the unit reaches a certain point and then the cold air part (compressor) turns off and then it just runs the fan. that’s why running another tube for return would be more efficient

When will dometic make a fridge and ac in the same unit...
@nathang.1744
@nathang.1744 2 года назад
probably never.. that would be a lot more expensive because you would need a variable speed compressor or it would have to be designed just right that way the fridge would get the correct amount of removal of btus and the room would too. not worth it

I admire your effort. But obviously you have not idea how a AC works. AC system sucks the air from the room in this case your tent, removes the heat then returns the cold air back into the room/tent. You a system to suck and blow...lol
