There will be plenty of air let in to allow the water to flow down. Have seen much more closed off pipes due to the lead folded in and was not a problem.
I may have misunderstood your question. I believe they will work or you can trim them a little. I believe the boot covers add color and provide a screen so rodents cannot get in the pipe. They do not replace the lead boot or the main waterproofing. I believe it is a protector and looks better.
Thank you, the reason I ask is I had contracted a roofer to replace my roof. Part of the labor was placing a lead boot cover over the exhaust pipe. They subcontracted the work and didn’t supervise the guys that did the roof. I had to have them come back a second time because they didn’t install the ridge vents or the lead pipe boot cover. When I asked the roof contractor why they wouldn’t install the boot cover he said the pitch was too great and to take 30’bucks off the bill. He didn’t have an answer for me when I asked why he put it in the contract to begin with. I ended up measuring the pitch myself being suspicious about it and found the measurement to be 12/12
Just for nomenclature, it is called a lead boot. The lead boot is the flashing that covers the vent pipe or plumbing vent or plumbing stack. A lead boot cover is a product that is plastic or composite that actually covers the lead boot. Typically they are used to provide a matching color, protect the lead boot, and also has a block for rodents. The lead boot is what ties the roof to the pipe and keeps the water out. So have you gotten someone to do that work?
@@PracticalRoofingConcepts Thank you for the reply and smarting me up. I did have someone come out, they gave me an estimate but also did a inspection of the roof for me. Caulk not used on the plastic cover that was installed, roof ridge not cut properly, shingles not installed properly, damaged shingles installed, flashed not reinstalled properly w/ photos.
