Hartung Family Farms is a farming operation out of Jackson and Clinton County Iowa, with our main farm located in Preston Iowa. We have around 2400 acres of corn, soybeans, alfalfa, rye, and oats as well as around 750 head of cattle. We have a wide range of International equipment from small tractors from the 1970s to newer large farm tractors!

Dont have any experience with an individual wrapper but have been running an inline the past 2 years...I have done quite a bunch this year for customers.

So does our neighbor and I definitely like inlines better, this takes way to long and you need 3 people to be efficient

Funny how this is so unusual in the states, we started wrapping around 1995 here in Europe 😄

Haha that’s crazy! I’d say it is common but we just never do it because we use corn for our silage

@@HartungFamilyFarms Well we started earlier then that infact, we put bags over our bales in the 80's, and in the late 80 we got our first wrapper. Today our farm has 17 tractors and we do combi baling. So we mostly just use our combi. Sometimes it happens that we get out our single baler and wrapper, but god i love my Mchale Fusion

The key is...... always flip the bales up on end within two hours after baling them. So much easier to wrap round bale then egg shaped bales. I built my own wrapper 15 yrs ago. Its primitive to bale dry hay.....too much leaf loss ! Much better quality and cheap to wrap them. no cost to store them outside either ! Cut and bale the hay the same day. You gain almost 15 days in a year. In the field and out of the field the same day. Instead of waiting 3 days for each crop to dry !! A win.....win ........win ~!

Rev up the engine on your wrapper tractor you should be able to wrap at double to triple that speed without any problems. When stacking always stack 1 on top of 3 that way they won’t fall over. Your skid loader with that grab on it is more than capable of loading and unloading the wrapper if you pull the trailers in beside the wrapper you don’t need the second loader.
@HartungFamilyFarms
@HartungFamilyFarms 4 года назад
We had the second one because we were stacking the bales a little ways from the wrapper so it just worked better. Plus we didn't want to spin the wrapper any faster because that already was a lot of weight spinning fast. We already dumped one bale off today and that's not safe
@danielkacko7616

It depends on what plastic you use, but around 20.
@m.j.l.abulle9107
@m.j.l.abulle9107 4 года назад
It depends entirely on bale diameter and number of layers applied , a rule of thumb is for 4 ft 6" bales at 6 to 7 layers three rolls plastic / 100 bales . My NZ machine has a selectable option to pause & put extra on the bale joins ~~~

If you think you may buy a bail wrapper, check out Keith Fink's youtube channel. He has a wrapper that you can pick up the bail wrap it and set it back down all in the field. Add a bail grabber and you can stack the wrapped bails either on truck or in the field with just tractor. Here is a link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LMTtaX10vAo.html the wrapper starts at about 12 min.

seems almost like silage in a bale if you did it while they were moist enough.
@HartungFamilyFarms
@HartungFamilyFarms 4 года назад
That's exactly right and that's why we decided to wrap these because they were extremely wet
@Masseyman-nv2kl

Hartung Family Farms if you wrap grass alfalfa for silage and its below like 40% it won't ferment correctly. And when your wrapping the quicker you go the better it seals it I've found with our mchale 991b trailer wrapper anyway.

Personal i would like to see 4 layer of wrap on my bales, no large in diameter than 4 foot 6 and packd damn solid by the baler. That a very old design of bale wrapper but works. I use one of these ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TF0OUC3IRZA.html its old but works well. Can wrap about 50 bales an hour.
