Room Acoustic Treatment Effect Comparison Layer By Layer
Here I bring you a test comparing the acoustics of this room layer after layer of acoustic treatment.
Please notice that the acoustic diffusers were made by me, find the build video here: • How I Made My Own Curv...
After the completion of this video I also added a small section of treatment with foam on the first reflection points of the ceiling. This is it for acoustic treatment in this room. What I have applied so far is plenty and have helped the room to feel much more focused while keeping some liveliness. I do not want to add any other layers of acoustic treatment and end up with a dull and dead sounding room.
The first layer of treatment I did was the front wall; I listed it as the rear wall by mistake in the video :-)
Some of the items I am using in this video:
Acoustic absorber panels seen in the video: amzn.to/2N0La9d
Foam corners: amzn.to/2n0WwPW
Foam corner cube: amzn.to/2v71XRD
This is what I used to hold the acoustic panels: amzn.to/2n0YZcM
This is what I used to hold the foam pieces: amzn.to/2mZ92iI
I actually cut the Velcro hangables strips in little pieces of about 1/4" of an inch since one doesn't need much to hold foam which is pretty much weightless. This way I get the most for my money on these strips.

Cool video! Just shows how small changes makes big difference. I mean you don't have to cover the whole room in acoustic materials just chose a few spots wisely and you'll be good.

Straight from the RU-vid library. It takes a lot of digging in there to find descent music.

Seems like the second reflection point is handled best with a diffuser. I really like that idea.

In my room that was the case. I first treated the 1st reflection points with absorption but quite frankly it really didn't do much. I then installed the diffusers and the improvement was like night and day.

@@ToolsAndI I've got two of the big polycylindrical PolyFusors from GIK acoustics. Can't wait to finish my hybrid movie/music listening room and just chill with a movie or some beats.

Hi. Great demonstration! I like the 'clapperboard' impulse generator. I'm struck by just how much difference the diffusers made compared to the absorption panels yet am just a tiny bit disappointed there was no test with just the diffusers. I am teetering on the brink (aren't we all) of making some acoustic treatments for my hi-fi listening room - the popular route seems to be absorbers first then diffusers but now I'm thinking of either a mix of the two or even diffusers first. tl;dr please can you make a video demonstrating the effect of just the diffusors... (pretty please, flutters eyelashes)

Does it matter if the diffuser is mounted vertically or horizontally?
@ToolsAndI
@ToolsAndI 4 года назад
For my understanding it doesn't matter. It is more common to see diffusers mounted horizontally on the front and back walls though.

I recommend watching all the videos from Acoustic Geometry. In my opinion they have the best and easiest to understand videos in this topic.

Moongrass TV thanks. I'm in a rented space so I'm unable to mount things on the wall. I was thinking it would be very easy to build a freestanding, vertical version of this.

I mounted these difussers using 3M Command velcro strips. These can be mounted and removed without leaving any type of marks on the walls. I might have left links to the product in the video's description but can't remember for sure.

Moongrass TV oh wow. Thanks for that. They must be strong to hold that weight!
