Just look what good condition those supplies are in, even the older stock! This is so important for artists to see, because not only is a clean, organized space a nicer place to work, it also avoids waste and spoilage! We won't pretend this video doesn't make us feel like the pressure's on to tidy up our own studios, but it's the kind of coaching we need for starting out the New Year!
Wow. So much stuff and so well organized. Thanks for sharing how you store your supplies. Lots of good storage ideas in the video. And I love how you reuse containers to store supplies. Little wastage which is great for the environment. 👍
I LOVE TALLEY!!!!! She looks like a cat that was my very favorite kitty when I lived in Brooklyn NY, my POOKIE had only three legs, but she got around just fine and was so sweet! I had to give her away when I moved to Ohio, my Mom and sister are allergic to cats, so It broke my heart to give her up, and I hope that she had a good life where ever she wound up!
It's so refreshing to see someone who does this for a living with a craft room that looks used and a bit crazy! There are so many fully matchy matchy pretty white craft rooms that are completely unachievable for lots of people. Yours shows a real 'make do and mend' type aesthetic which is so much more sustainable and better for our planet! Thanks Lindsay xx
I love this video for two reasons: 1) This is continuing proof that most of us artists don't have uncluttered, designer studios like you see in magazines and Pinterest photos. The vast majority of us utilize found assortments of furniture, shelving, containers, etc to store and keep our supplies and we typically Tetris it all together to maximize space as much as possible. Functionality and practicality takes priority over aesthetics. 2) You narrate what is basically the artist's stream of consciousness when redoing/reorganizing/purging an art studio and it makes me so happy that I'm not the only one who has these same conversations with myself when I'm going through all of my stuff. I think your work spaces turned out amazing!
Ah! U said this so well. Makes me feel better about saving "trash" 🤣 my husband says I hoard too many random containers so now I just sneak them into my studio.
I keep mine in the shed and I can go out and look thru it for the perfect container when I’m trying to reorganize without new purchases. Hate to throw storage away. 🤷🏽♀️
This video inspired me, and I'm going to start this week. And yes, I save useful boxes, containers and baskets too! I have the fourth and smallest bedroom as a craft room, but I do calligraphy, paint, make jewelry, do machine embroidery and sew all in my limited space. How I love being retired! I can use the space better, however so here I go 😁
THANK YOU so much for sharing this video!!! I can't even get in my studio anymore!!! I have lots of shopping bags with all kinds of goodies that I haven't even put away. Watching you, gives me ENERGY and hope. 😂 Thanks again!! I WILL ORGANIZE, 💯💯,.....I WILL... i will... 🤔 😉
Button, button, whose got the button??? Did my little eye spy a big jar of buttons? There's gotta be a story about those. Your whole area is a thing of beauty, it must be so nice to have a special place where you can go to create and be wild. 🎨🖌🖍😺
LOVE THIS!! I really want to be Lindsay's neighbor and knock on her door and say...."can I borrow a blue marker?" and see how she chooses just one! I also want to sit and create in those rooms for a week.... Like a mental health retreat spot! Thanks for sharing all your hard work 😍
Your kitty! What a cute little hairball that is. ❤ Your studio looks super cozy, and the amount of stuff that you have gathered in phenomenal. You're inspiring me to finally get around to organizing my stuff. I already wanted to get on that over a week ago, but I keep putting it off. No more excuses, I want to be organized like you! And since you asked about seeing more stuff: I would absolutely love it if one of these days you would do another one of your color pencil or watercolor palette tours. You've surely gotten so many new things since the last tour, keep us updated on your collections!
About your acrylic paint storage dilemma: all of us fall into the trap of thinking it’s always best to store all like-things together but it seems like you actually answered this for yourself since you use them now where they are in part because they are not stored far away with their brethren. Like you, I used to think I needed to store all my stamps in the same place but some are planner stamps so they would never be used if they aren’t with my planner supplies. Hope this helps! I think your storage room needs some piece of inspirational happiness to personalize it for you. Maybe a painting on a storage cabinet? Something to make you feel happy about going in there. The makeup table could be a treasured hand-me-down for one of your daughters. Those are back in style now. Enjoy your space. You inspire us so much & are very a very talented artist and art teacher. Your STUDIO is an awesome resource & you are a gifted lady! Enjoy.
Fantastic job. I like the saying 'Like with like!'. I found that you are a major art/crafting person. Great organized system. You did a great job of 'show and tell' of how you sorted for your year 2023. You go girl, power on.
I love watching organize videos, it always gives so much new ideas and inspiration for setting up my own stuff. Also gives you a boost to go and clean up a bit ;-)
Next on TheFrugalCrafter. Lindsay tries to remember where she moved all her things. 😂 I do have to admit, your organization skills are next level. Thank you for sharing the process. Hoping to put some of your ideas to use.
Wow...that's kind of my dream crafting room and a very good visualization of how mufh room I'd ACTUALLY need to do all of the various hobbies I have. Also, Punky Brewster ref!!!
The declutter/organization of my craft space has been on my todo list for a few weeks now. I'm just having to balance it with work and family obligations. This video is keeping the desire going and I will get it done!! I also appreciate that you have an eclectic space. It keeps me in check to use what I have and what works for me and not worry that it's not all "matchy-matchy". TFS!!
@@juicytulipboutiqueandartis8051 True! Doesn't really work for things that yellow or spoil, but I did stock up on needles and sewing thread. Not even for the price, but I got into sewing when everyone was making facemasks and my local sewing supply store actually ran out of universal machine needles. Not even any janky off brand ones.😑. I always keep an emergency stash now.
W. O. W. !!!! I plan to show my husband this video!!! That way when he tells me I have enough yarn, fabrics, color/art supplies, I can be like....see! I have soooo FEW craft supplies!! LOL!! (Honestly, he rarely says anything...unfortunately??…we’re very supportive of each other’s hobbies/addictions, lol. I think we each secretly think...’if I say it’s fine for you to get ‘x’, then that mean it’s fine if I get ‘y’ that I’ve been wanting for months and have tried to justify my ‘want’ as a ‘need’.’ Lol! )
I love when you do these videos. People tend to think organizing is a "one and done" activity, but it is a constantly evolving process as you learn what works best, decide what's important to you now, and gain new interests. I used to feel like such a failure because my organizing didn't last, but now I'm grateful for the assessment process - seeing what I have accomplished and learned. Keep being real, Lindsay! Organizing craft supplies when you do many different crafts is so hard, because so many things make sense in different categories. I use so many supplies in ways they weren't intended, so unless I have multiple copies to store with each craft, it makes more sense to group by what type of item it is, but if I do that, then when I do a craft, I have to grab supplies from 10 different areas lol. Adding to the confusion is that I also do nail art and home repair - my glitters, rhinestones, striping tapes also work well on cards, my dremel fixes acrylic nails and does sculpting, needle nose pliers do everything lol.
Organizing storage bins,, trays, and containers always come in handy, so I would keep many, too. You cracked me up when you asked yourself why you have such a Maine accent today. Uhh, maybe cuz your in/from Maine! Lol!
For your stamp wheels: have you considered making sample swatches from them? A binder ring hung on a hook full of numbered tags with corresponding numbers written on the inner barrel from a paint pen would help you to quickly locate which one makes which design. I love your spaces & can’t wait to see your pottery! Your easel will get so much more use now that you are able to access it better. I Love your wall mural! Maybe you should update/refresh your mural so it will pull you in & inspire you now?
I love that your studio is organized but not crazy. I, too, often keep interesting segmented food things, and I love dollar store containers. If it works, who cares where it came from? I'm not as organized as you - I either over-organize with too many sub-categories to the point of madness, or I toss every size plastic/metal/wood container into a bunch of disorganized bins. Like you, I have many hobbies and ways of making art, so a LOT of supplies in a bazillion categories (including a disused kiln in the garage and fancy woodworking equipment!). Having watched your video, however, I now feel that there's hope for me to organize in a way that works for me. I have a hodge-podge of furniture and industrial shelving and other storage stuff acquired over time. But I now feel waaay better about not wanting to deal with the limits of wrestling all my stuff into a wall of perfection in the form of stacked IKEA cubes (although I surely appreciate looking at such walls!). Thanks again for another fab video! 😊
I've gone through a slump in my crafting and I haven't seen any of your videos in a while. Thanks for the boost. By the way, the red hair is stunning on you, really.
Suggestion for your roller stamps: Roll them across a sheet of paper, label by row #. Easy to access and view. I put my stamped pages in a small 3 ring binder. Or you could tape them in front of the roll they represent. Just flip up and pull off roll. I enjoyed your video. I am needing to get my room in order.
PLEASE keep your cigar boxes! I store mine until I need a certain size. They're also useful as the base for altered art dioramas and decorated boxes for gifts.😊 That said, I wish I could organize my stuff! Your "before" areas look like my craft room after hours of "decluttering"...😐 Oh! And I LOVE your cat!
I redesigned and and built our kitchen back in 2019 and now that I'm thinking about creating an art space I'm reusing some of the same ideas because they can work for both spaces. In the kitchen I separated different functions into different zones and then put the items I needed to use into the zone that I'd use them in. So depending on what was used in a particular zone, they either got drawer or cupboard storage. I must say that I prefer drawers over cupboards, especially the low cupboards that you always seem to end up down on your hands and knees exploring the back of lol. In the drawers, the cutlery or utensil trays or the partitions you get to sort out your socks, come in really handy for sorting out paint tubes or other bits like washi tapes. I've learned to keep the water based activities away from the computer or anything electrical and if I am doing a painting from a reference photo I keep the tablet or monitor up on a stand above the bench in case my paint water tries to escape again 😂 My daughter likes to sew so I'm planning out a separate area for her to work in and we've found some plastic drawers that she can store her fabric in where she can see it. I'm okay with my supplies tucked away out of sight but she needs to be able to see hers to help her create so our different work styles call for different storage solutions too. It's turning out to be quite a fun project.
An idea for the stamp wheels: stamp out a sample on cardstock, use a circle punch the size of wheel side and also punch a center hole so it can slip over the nail/reel center. Boom, a wall of pretty samples and easily identify your rollers!
I've converted all my wooden stamps to EZ Foam so I can use them on my stamping platform. But the graphics on some of the wooden blocks were so beautiful that I set them around my craft room shelves as "art" accents.
Lindsay If you are afraid of getting things splashed when you are using the pottery wheel may I suggest you install a ring shower curtain rod over the area that way you can protect your other supplies.
You gave me good reorganizing ideas for my art room. I use a spare bedroom on the main level of my home and it has served me well for my watercolor art. However in the last year or so I have expanded into charcoal, soft and oil pastels and color pencils. I'm in the process of getting my ( generally unused) basement into an art space. It's a great fully finished basement and only used for guests so excited to utilize it better for my expanding art.
If I may make one suggestion. Thrown pottery sprays beyond the wheel & bowl. I would move the alcohol inks and drop down a shower curtain rod & put a clear shower curtain in front of my binders. You can still see the binders, but A shower is much easier to take down & hose off than wiping down those shelves & binders. I have your same “container addiction “. Safely in downsizing I had to be severe. But did keep a few.
Congratulations, that "defrag, declutter, reorg" project is quite the accomplishment. As for follow up vids, your mission, if you choose to accept it: I would love your input on how to plan and set up a craft room from scratch (or reorg from the bottom up) with emphases on space (work & storage), varieties of disciplines (how to determine what is a necessity, what to invest in, and best utilization of space), and of course costs.(what to invest in, what you can skimp on, and what you can reasonably skip,). Advice on unusual or often overlooked resources would be appreciated, too. That’s probably fodder for a whole series! Thanks for the tour!
Holy Cow, thats the most organized, best use of space video you’ve done in a while, and i’m blown away. Going to rewatch with The Hubby telling him “see, see, it’s ok the frugal crafter does it!” 😂😂😂 My favorite is the rafter storage. The Olde Homestead had nails everywhere. And thank you for plastics and empty boxes storage. I am so conflicted with them. Why do we keep these things! 😂 Thanks again. 😊
I don't think you can call that the room of hoard anymore; it's too neat and organized! Now it looks like TWO studios. I wish I could think in organized terms. I think I'm gonna need more shelves or a bigger boat.😉 Thanks Lindsay 💜
Hiya future Lindsay and past Lindsay and Calli too. I'd love to get some cigar boxes and wooden boxes cause a lot of my storage is cardboard boxes and some plastic, anywho it's all coming together for you. I'd love to see a detailed tour of the spaces you mentioned. Makes me wish I had my own craft space finished, yep got a small building that was just for that purpose, but isn't finished yet and I don't see it happening unless I win the lottery and hire it done. I enjoy seeing your inventiveness. Thanks for sharing your time and inspirations. I pray that your slumped feelings are gone. God bless you young lady. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I always learn something from your workspace/craftroom tours so bring on the tours! And thanks for the inspiration, too, as I need some help getting going on my workspace clean up this year! :)
You have sooooo much but amazingly you know where everything is located! I save nice boxes too-so hard to get rid of. Basements are such a dream. No basements in California 🥲
This a great video for organizing empty storage containers, especially since I have many same items Lindsey has ie cigar boxes, Dollar Tree stuff, empty supply tins even the typeface drawers! Going to go organize after the video.
Love the mural! Love the flouff, Talia! So sweet. I've put reorganizing on my crafting goals again this year, so thank you for the inspiration. Oh, you're a box/container hoarder, too? I think that this goes inherently with crafting.🥰
WOW…Lynsey you make me feel good when you share your multitude of crafting supplies with us!! It doesn’t make me feel so bad when I look at my conglomeration of supplies I own! My only difference is I don’t teach anyone to make things or create to sell right now. I am a full time night shift worker which makes it very hard to create due to being tired all the time… But, I’m hoping to attempt a different sleep schedule and try to start making things again! I have to do something because my place is overrun with crafting things. Wish me luck… I think your “ROOM OF HOARD” looks great now!! Take care, hugs from Hershey PA 🥰 xoxoxo
I always enjoy watching when you de-clutter/clean/organize your craft spaces. It gives me ideas on improved ways to organize my space (which is always in a state of flux). After watching your last Sat-chat and saw a bit of what you did it got motivated to clean/reorganize my space a bit. I actually found several items I lost. 🤣 The last time I did a deep de-clutter like what you just did, I actually rediscovered things I had forgotten I had. And I actually smiled at seeing your 'box of boxes' and repurposed food packaging.... because I have a very similar "box of boxes" and packaging that I might fine a use for. I organize quite a bit with up-cycled packaging/boxes. They are so useful and best of all... free!! Thanks for sharing, your spaces came out great!! And your mural wall is so cheerful!
Awesome job Lindsay , your inspiring me to make a craft room in my basement , I don’t have many supplies but I can make a space for what I have , thank you for sharing ❤
Well done! It makes me happy to see I’m not the only one who does many different crafts,! I was told “choose one or two and get rid of the rest” but oddly enough, i do go back and re do old crafts. And i also find i manage to incorporate different types into one project. So now it’s a question of re-organizing into same stuff rather than same craft.like you said same with same makes more sense! Thank you so much for this I don’t know if you have done this already but I’d like to see how you organize your paint brushes.
Same! What I've done is put everything in the same nestable clear containers. Some of them go on the "active" shelf above my desk, the rest go in my "hibernation" bookcase. Whenever I rotate my current hobby, I just have to switch containers.
@@thaliacrafts407 hi, what about the “stuff” that is used in more than one craft? I’ve started to do leather “burning “ and use the same tool as when i do pyrog on wood? At the moment i have those tools in a separate box, and don’t want to duplicate tools! And the stamps that i use as “stencils” …. It gets complicated🤔 i keep thinking there must be a better way! Thankfully there are labels! But i still would not give up creating ,just wish i had a little elf to put things away after the project is done!😀
I had to watch this twice. Amazing! I know that was a TON of work and I bet you feel really good about what you accomplished. I totally LOVE your wall of rubber stamps! I have to tell you that I had a few good chuckles as I thought bad to the time you moved into the studio and said ‘I’m not going to bring too much in here’. 😊 it all looks wonderful. I say keep what you use frequently close by. So keep your set of acrylic set by you!
Speaking of “hoarding adventures” 😂 I took the dive and bought the petty excellent pallette to treat myself because I recently fell in Love with the Paul Ruben’s watercolors, and got the 48 pan set for Christmas. When I was on Amazon they showed in the pictures that the Pretty excellent palette now has half pans instead of the plastic casing! Well alas when it arrived today in the mail it did not ! 😂 needless to say I left a colorful review for Amazon shortly afterwards, but really love the paint 😂thanks for recommending them Lindsay ! There as great as you say! 😂
You got an old palette then. The version with pans is pretty new, a German youtuber had one shipped by the company and said that the 48 half pans is a new thing that just came out recently and it's apparently not even available everywhere yet.
@@justacatwhocantype so weird. I wonder why they’re still selling the old ones though ! Like why wouldn’t they like have a major sell or something 😅 at least I’m over here all entitled over a $20 watercolor palette
@@jessieg4901 I guess the sellers are just clearing out what they got until it's gone, hoping that people aren't going to even notice that there is a newer version. I agree though, nomally they should be selling the older version for cheaper. But hey, it's still great paint and well worth the money even at full price. 😃
WOW!! Great declutter job. You do sooooo many different types of art 🎨. But being in the business as long as you have it's understandable. Enjoy your decluttered space!😃
I loved watching! A few years ago I cleared my space after you did and honestly try to every year ! You always inspire me in so many ways! Thanks Lindsay ❤
OMG! Lindsay you give me confidence I am in control of my Craft room! My space is messy at the moment! and I know it is messy with what I am working on at this precise moment! That is how I am dealing with my space! it is allowed to be messy with what I am working on! I do find a negative block is caused by trying to do too much at the same time! Thank you for these videos! This year if I need to experiment! then I need to finish the experiment with whatever, clean up and move on!
